Chapter 137: Empress, a Little Enchantress? The Immortality Herb of the Black Tortoise
Seeing that her father did not understand what she meant, little Chenchen looked around. When she caught sight of Chu Ningdie, who was speaking with her aunt, her eyes lit up. Ignoring her curiosity about why her aunt was here, she pointed her small hand at Chu Ningdie and declared righteously:
"I saw Daddy hugging her just now! Auntie said that in this world, apart from her and us two, anyone who hugs Daddy is a vixen... a little demon!"
Chen Xing’s eyes widened as he glared at his unreliable younger sister. Chen Mi, clearly having overheard the little girl, hurriedly turned her head away, not daring to meet his gaze.
As for Chu Ningdie, she stood frozen in place upon hearing the little one's words. A vixen? Her? She could hardly believe her ears. For hundreds of thousands of years, she had reigned over eternity, suppressing the starry skies! Countless people had called her the Ruthless Empress, or the peerless, talented Empress! Yet, this was the first time someone had ever called her a demon—a vixen, at that! Her mind was thrown into complete disarray.
Chen Xing rolled his eyes at his guilty-looking sister and waved for Chu Ningdie to come over. He crouched down and spoke softly to little Chenchen: "Sweetheart! Don’t listen to your Aunt Chen Mi’s nonsense. This is also your aunt! Her name is Chu Ningdie!"
Little Chenchen stared at the Empress with wide eyes. When did she get another aunt? She had only taken a short nap; how did this woman go from being a vixen to another aunt?
Just as the little one began to doubt reality, little Nannan broke free from Chen Xing’s embrace, stood before little Chenchen, and said with a serious face: "You must listen to your father! This sister is a very good person; I can feel it! Since Brother says she is your aunt, then she must be!"
Watching the serious-faced little Nannan, Chen Xing couldn't help but laugh out loud. He kissed her on the cheek and said, "My Nannan is the most sensible. Later, Brother will get you something delicious and fun!"
Seeing her father praising little Nannan, little Chenchen immediately protested! Forgetting to dwell on whether Chu Ningdie was an aunt or a vixen, she threw herself into Chen Xing’s arms and begged, "Daddy! I want some too, I want some too!"
Chen Xing smiled and kissed her, then pointed at Chu Ningdie. "Then you know what you should call her, right?"
Though slightly reluctant, little Chenchen whispered, "Auntie!"
Chu Ningdie, naturally, would not hold a grudge against her brother’s daughter. Just as she was about to crouch down to pick the little girl up for a cuddle, she heard Chen Xing’s voice transmit directly into her ears. Startled, she immediately understood. She nodded gently and said softly to little Chenchen: "Your name is Chenchen, right? Shall Auntie take you and Nannan to find something fun?"
The two little ones, having already filled their bellies, perked up at the mention of something fun. They immediately left Chen Xing’s embrace, ran over to Chu Ningdie, and chirped, "Yay! Yay! Let’s go quickly!"
As they pulled at her to leave, Chu Ningdie picked them up, gave Chen Xing a faint smile, and vanished in a flicker of light.
The Saint Body, Meng Chen, seeing that he was no longer needed, bid Chen Xing farewell and returned to the Undying Mountain.
Chen Mi walked over to Chen Xing, looking rather embarrassed. "I was just playing around with little Chenchen and the others when I said those things. Who knew she’d actually remember them!"
Chen Xing glared at her and retorted, "Wait until you see Mom; I’ll have her teach you a lesson! Let’s see if you dare teach children nonsense again!"
Chen Mi pouted and muttered, "Who knows who will be the one getting taught a lesson? You go out once and bring back a sister. Oh wait, two—it's a 'buy one, get one free' deal."
"And whose fault is all of this?" Chen Xing asked helplessly, hearing his sister’s grumbling.
Chen Mi blushed, then her eyes darted around. She leaned in and whispered with a grin, "Brother! This sister of yours is not simple at all!"
Chen Xing paused, then replied dismissively, "Isn't she just a Great Emperor? What’s so complicated about that? Even if she were an Immortal Emperor, would you really care?"
Chen Mi shook her head and smiled mysteriously. "That’s not what I meant! Aren't you curious why she waited for you for countless ages, yet refused to take the surname 'Chen'?"
Chen Xing scoffed, "What surname she uses doesn't mean anything to her! Isn't it normal for her to return to her original family name?"
Seeing her brother’s wooden reaction, and recalling what Xiao Yao and Nuwa had said about the three of them finally coming together after countless eras, she couldn't help but sigh in her heart. She only hoped this wasn't what she thought it was. Although she and Chu Ningdie had severed their karmic ties, she truly did not want to see the lonely Empress of the past ever again.
Deep within the Undying Mountain, a dilapidated thatched hut stood on a hillside. An old man sat on a rocking chair in front of the house, his eyes closed. The aura of death permeated his body; clearly, he did not have much time left. Beside him, a turtle the size of a bowl lay at his feet, its mung-bean-sized eyes fixed on the old man, filled with sorrow.
Suddenly, a flash of white light appeared, and Chu Ningdie arrived with the two little ones. She stared at the sleeping old man without saying a word.
"You’ve come," a raspy voice drifted through the air. The old man, who had been sleeping, slowly opened his eyes, forcing a smile onto his wrinkled face.
Seeing him awake, Chu Ningdie wasted no time. She set the two little ones down and pointed at the turtle beside the old man. "The Xuanwu Undying Medicine! I want it!" Her voice was cold and firm, lacking any trace of courtesy.
"The Empress suppresses all races, and her fame echoes through the stars! There is no need to sully your reputation by bullying a dying man for the sake of an Undying Medicine, is there?" The old man sat up and gave a bitter smile.
Chu Ningdie sneered coldly. "If you hadn't refrained from participating in the Dark Turmoil, do you think I would be speaking to you so politely?"
The old man naturally understood the implication in the Empress's words. His aged face twitched, and he said helplessly, "I am a dying man. This Xuanwu Undying Medicine has been with me for many years. This old man is reluctant to give it away. I ask for the Empress's understanding!" His voice held a hint of determination.
Chu Ningdie felt frustrated. While she wanted the Xuanwu Undying Medicine to give to the two little ones to play with, actually killing the old man would be going too far. Although he lived in the Undying Mountain, she knew he had never participated in the many Dark Turmoils initiated by the other Supremes; otherwise, he would not be in his current state.
"Since you reside here, you should know the fate that befell the Stone Emperor just now, shouldn't you? Aren't you afraid of meeting the same end?" Chu Ningdie threatened.
The old man nodded, acknowledging that he knew what had happened, but he gave a faint smile. "This old man is facing his 'Dissolution into the Dao' and does not have long to live anyway. If I die, I die, but..." Suddenly, an infinite imperial pressure erupted from his body, and he said coldly, "I am, after all, a supreme expert of the extreme path. How can I allow myself to be looked down upon!" The pride of a master of the extreme path was clearly evident in his tone.
Chu Ningdie was left speechless. This old man was like a stubborn stone that couldn't be softened, and she had no good way to deal with him! After all, she did not want Chen Xing to think she was an unreasonable woman. For a moment, she felt a headache coming on.
Just then, the two little ones, completely oblivious to the tension between the two, happily ran over to the turtle and began to tease the Xuanwu Undying Medicine.
Little Chenchen played for a moment, then suddenly looked up, staring curiously at the old man. "Grandpa, is this turtle of yours a spiritual medicine?"
The old man was taken aback by the term "Grandpa." Looking at the cute little girl with her curious, wide eyes, he felt a warmth in his heart, and his aggressive aura dissipated. He answered gently, "Yes! It is indeed an Undying Medicine!"
"Then why is it a turtle?" little Chenchen muttered to herself.
The old man was speechless. How was he supposed to explain that these Undying Medicines were all transformed after immortals perished? It wasn't easy to say!
"Pfft!" At that moment, a laugh echoed through the scene.
