Chapter 109: Ye Hei Confronts Chen Xing, Chen Mi Seeks Disciples
Blue Star! At the foot of Mount Tai.
A lively group of men and women were chatting and laughing as they made their way toward the mountain peak. Among them was a handsome young man with a sharply defined, resolute face, engaged in conversation with another man.
This young man was Ye Fan, who had arranged this trip to Mount Tai with classmates he hadn’t seen for years.
Except for Pang Bo, Ye Fan’s closest friend back then, who had been delayed by unforeseen matters, everyone else had already arrived. After waiting for a long time with no sign of Pang Bo, the group decided not to wait any longer and chose to ascend the mountain first.
The person speaking with Ye Fan was his old classmate Ye Ziwen, who had taken the initiative to organize this reunion.
Seeing a woman ahead laughing and chatting with a blond, blue-eyed foreigner, Ye Ziwen frowned and said, “Ye Fan, even though Li Ziman and you have broken up, there’s no need for her to behave like that in front of you!”
Ye Fan smiled faintly and replied, “If fate is severed, why bother caring what others do?”
Ye Ziwen was helpless upon hearing Ye Fan’s indifference.
Meanwhile, beneath a pine tree halfway up Mount Tai, three people dressed in unusual clothing stood quietly: a man in a Daoist robe exuding an aura of transcendence, a woman in white palace attire with a silk scarf partially covering her face, and a little girl of about two or three years old, dressed in a princess gown, held tenderly in the man’s arms. They were Chen Xing and his two companions.
Chen Xing and his sister Chen Mi had changed their appearances intentionally, hoping to draw Ye Fan’s group’s attention. Once acquainted, they could begin their true journey into the world of Concealing Heaven.
No matter how much Chen Xing coaxed, little Chen Chen stubbornly refused to change out of her princess dress, which she adored. Chen Xing could only relent.
Watching the group ascending toward the peak, Chen Mi asked curiously, “Are these the people you mentioned, brother? The ones destined to be taken away by that coffin?”
Though Chen Mi also came from Earth, she had been too young back then to understand the origins of the Concealing Heaven world.
Chen Xing nodded with a smile. “Later, we can try to make contact with them. It’ll be easier to hitch a ride that way.”
Chen Mi pouted. “Why do we have to go with them? Can’t we go on our own? Staying inside a coffin sounds so gloomy!”
Chen Xing chuckled, teasing, “You were the one who insisted on seeing the Nine-Dragon Coffin first and nearly scared those astronauts out of their wits.”
Chen Mi blushed and said embarrassedly, “I only wanted to see it because you said that Three-Life Bronze Coffin seemed mysterious. Who knew it was just some innate spiritual energy and a trace of Dao essence?” She finished with a sigh of frustration.
Chen Xing smiled inwardly, thinking, “That Spirit Liu really pulled off something remarkable; she completed what Shi Hao never did!”
---
As Ye Fan’s group drew closer, Chen Xing and Chen Mi stepped forward politely. “Excuse me, are you all heading to the summit for a tour?”
The strange attire of the three caught the group off guard. Ye Ziwen, the reunion organizer, stepped forward with curiosity. “Um… Daoist, is there something you wish to say?”
Chen Xing smiled gently. “I sense that your journey to the summit may encounter calamities. I’ve come to offer a warning.”
Hearing Chen Xing’s cryptic words, a man named Liu Yunzhi stepped forward and sneered, “Quit the charade. Just because you’re wearing a Daoist robe doesn’t mean you’re some immortal. Move along if you’ve got nothing better to do!”
Seeing Liu Yunzhi’s outburst, Li Changqing, who worked for his company, also stepped up, waving dismissively. “Did you hear what Young Master Liu said? Move on and find another place to peddle your nonsense!” He even tried to push Chen Xing aside.
Ye Fan quickly grabbed Li Changqing’s arm and said, “Forget it, no need to argue. Let’s just go.”
Liu Yunzhi, who had always been at odds with Ye Fan since college, sneered, “What? Since when did you have the authority to command my workers?”
Ye Fan bristled inwardly but held his tongue. He glanced at the smiling Chen Xing and retorted sharply, “If you want to play the mystic, be more professional about it. Bringing your wife and child along to scam people? Do you think everyone’s a fool?”
Over the years, Ye Fan had developed a keen interest in ancient mysteries and metaphysics, harboring a deep reverence for Buddhism, Daoism, and immortality. Seeing the trio’s odd costumes, he felt it was disrespectful to their ancestors and couldn’t help but mock them.
Chen Xing chuckled quietly, thinking, “As expected! It was definitely wise to leave you someone worthy of rivalry.” As for Liu Yunzhi and Li Changqing, both on the brink of death, Chen Xing barely spared them a glance.
Had Ye Fan known that his spiteful words would bring so many troubles to his path of enlightenment, he would have deeply regretted it.
Chen Xing’s expression turned solemn. “If you doubt me, I can accompany you on your journey to verify my words. How does that sound?”
Liu Yunzhi and the others were about to refuse when a timid voice piped up, “Why not let him come along? He can watch out for us.”
The speaker was Liu Yiyi, known for her timidity. Seeing Chen Xing holding little Chen Chen, she worried the child might catch a chill in the mountain breeze.
Since it came from a woman, Liu Yunzhi begrudgingly silenced himself.
Ye Fan, after his sarcastic remark, also said no more. If they wanted to follow, so be it—they were almost at the peak anyway.
With the group silent once more, they resumed their ascent. Chen Chen exchanged a glance with Chen Mi, and the two quietly trailed behind.
Soon, they reached the summit. Standing atop the magnificent Jade Emperor Peak, the breathtaking scenery swept away all the heaviness from their hearts.
---
Several female classmates eagerly snapped photos, their laughter like silver bells ringing out across Mount Tai’s summit.
Little Chen Chen was overjoyed and begged to be set down, running about to play. Among the group, only Liu Yiyi kept a watchful eye on the delicate little girl, afraid she might tumble down the mountain.
Chen Chen observed the scene and silently nodded, then sent a telepathic message to Chen Mi: “Little Mi, how about taking on a disciple?”
Chen Mi, admiring the view, was startled and curiously asked, “Brother, why do you say that? Why would you want me to take a disciple?”
Chen Xing pursed his lips and pointed toward Liu Yiyi. “That girl’s fate is harsh. Even after marriage, she’s suffered many indignities. Yet she still retains a pure heart, which is truly rare.”
Chen Mi looked at Liu Yiyi, who was nervously watching over the playful Chen Chen with evident concern, and smiled.
Then she replied telepathically, “Brother! Zhu Feng’s teasing you as a ‘doting father’ is spot on. Just because she cares about Chen Chen, you want me to accept her as a disciple? That’s unbelievable!”
Chen Xing smiled faintly and said nothing more. Only he knew how much pity he felt for this kind-hearted woman, recalling how he had felt injustice for her when they first met Chen Keng.
Since arriving in the Northern Dipper Star Domain, everyone had their own destinies, striving to reach the pinnacle of cultivation, but she remained like a green leaf, highlighting others’ brilliance, eventually fading from existence.
Compared to Ye Fan’s cunning and Li Xiaoman’s selfishness, Chen Xing believed that the gentle Liu Yiyi truly deserved favor.
During the entire dark era, all those with extraordinary talent focused solely on battling the heavens, grasping stars and moons, showcasing their supreme gifts.
But in Chen Xing’s eyes, kindness was the most precious talent across all realms. “Compassion and mercy foster benevolence; respect and virtue nurture true goodness.” As the Lord of the Primordial Dao, these qualities were what he ought to reward.
Most importantly, he had promised someone long ago to help find that person’s mother. Who could have guessed that the ruthless woman from back then would give rise to such a kindred spirit?
Seeing his sister fall silent, Chen Mi smiled and telepathically said, “Since you say so, brother, I’ll find a chance to accept her!” Then she playfully winked at Chen Xing and ran off to join Chen Chen.
Chen Xing sighed and looked up at the sky for a while, softly murmuring, “What is destined to come, will come.”
