065 - A Bit Sinister
Lu Yichen restlessly reached out again, attempting to make a move toward Xia Yuwei. Sensing it, Xia Yuwei grabbed his hand without giving him a chance to protest, tucking it firmly under the covers. She scolded him in exasperation, “Aren’t you cold? Why are you sticking your hand out?”
“I… I’m still cold…” Lu Yichen’s voice was weak, his half-lidded eyes gazing at her.
“What should I do?” Seeing how feeble he appeared, Xia Yuwei grew anxious once more. “I’ve been calling for so long—why hasn’t the ambulance arrived yet?” As she spoke, her small hand pressed to his forehead. It was damp, slick with sweat.
Her lashes cast shadows as she lowered her gaze; so thick and long, framing a face above a swath of porcelain skin revealed from her collarbone up. The exertion from supporting him had left a delicate blush blooming on her cheeks, and beads of sweat still dotted her forehead. For some inexplicable reason, the sight sent a wave of heat surging through him.
“Weiwei… come here, hold me.” Lu Yichen shivered beneath the blanket.
Xia Yuwei frowned, troubled. Things weren’t as they used to be; how could she just hold him on a whim now? She was already twenty, and he too was an adult.
She hadn’t forgotten how, just yesterday, he’d pinned her to the bed and kissed her with wild abandon… That wasn’t something a child would do.
“Isn’t there anything else here I can use to cover you?”
“There’s nothing…” he replied weakly, though a hint of satisfaction flickered inside him.
For her to abandon everything and come running to his place—he could no longer bring himself to hate her so much. Yes, she’d only known he lived in this building before, never entered his apartment. She must have gone through some effort to find out exactly which one… It showed she cared, even if just a little.
“What am I supposed to do… I really am… so cold…” he muttered, his body shaking, as if slipping into a dazed, confused state. Already seriously ill, he was amplifying his vulnerability, half feigning, half real, just to draw her concern.
Seeing the situation, Xia Yuwei truly began to panic. When he wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close, she didn’t resist.
“Weiwei… you’re the warmest…” With a contented sigh, he held her tight, dragging her down to lie beside him, pressing himself against her.
It was late autumn. She wore only a silk dress that fell to her knees, a small jacket thrown over her shoulders. He couldn’t fathom what she was thinking—wasn’t she cold too?
His hands wandered restlessly over her, as if in discomfort and agitation.
“Lu Yichen, stop moving…” His chill seeped through their clothes, reaching her skin.
He had to be doing this on purpose, didn’t he? Why else would his hand, whether by accident or design, be creeping up her leg, sliding beneath her skirt?
