Nemesis
As Xu Weide snapped his fingers, a violinist dressed in white approached and began to play "The Joy of Love" for her.
Xu Weide gazed at her with deep affection and said, "Yu Wei, this piece is dedicated to you alone. Only it can express the feelings I have for you!"
Xia Yuwei shuddered, goosebumps rising all over her body. She truly had no appetite for this kind of so-called romance and devotion. These melodramatic declarations of love were nothing short of torture—she would have preferred to be stabbed outright. Clearly, she had no choice but to go for broke. Worst case, she’d just forgo her diploma.
"Professor Xu, it wasn’t easy for my parents to bring me into this world and raise me. I think I need their approval for something like this. Why don’t you ask my parents for their opinion first?" Xia Yuwei replied with a perfectly serious expression.
Hearing this, Xu Weide immediately felt hopeful, his face lighting up with joy. "Of course! Where do your parents live? I’ll visit them soon."
"You’re welcome to visit them in heaven, Professor Xu."
"What?!" Only then did Xu Weide realize he’d been made fun of. His face turned pale, and he was on the verge of flying into a rage.
Xia Yuwei had no intention of wasting any more words. She stood up, intending to leave.
At that moment, as the violinist drew out the final note, a waiter approached.
The instant Xia Yuwei saw this waiter, she wanted to flee. Not that she found the man himself frightening—she’d never even seen him before—it was what he held in his hands: a bouquet of roses!
The thought flashed through her mind and she moved at once. Without even bothering to grab her bag, she strode quickly in the opposite direction. Xu Weide, however, stood up, grabbed the dazzling bouquet from the waiter as if in a relay race, and chased after Xia Yuwei.
Whereas they had been in a relatively secluded spot before, now both of them were in the main walkway—one running, one in pursuit—drawing a barrage of curious stares from everyone around.
Xia Yuwei clamped her hand over her mouth and nose and called out in distress, "Stay away from me!"
Heaven help her—she’d truly met her nemesis!
Was this some kind of punishment? Little did he know, the flowers that girls adored most were Xia Yuwei’s greatest fear! She suffered from severe pollen allergies and would never go anywhere near flowers.
"Yuwei, I’m showing my sincerity before everyone. I know you like me too, so don’t be stubborn. Please accept my love!"
Xu Weide was full of confidence. After all, wasn’t it every girl’s dream for a man to declare his love publicly? He simply refused to believe Xia Yuwei could resist. As he spoke, he reached out and grabbed her, trying to force the bouquet into her arms.
But—he was a step too late.
A tall figure stepped between them, wrapped a strong arm around Xia Yuwei’s slender waist, and pulled her into a firm embrace. In a clear, decisive voice, he announced:
"Don’t touch her!"
