Chapter 63: The Good Days Are Over
The police station in charge of Nanshan Middle School wasn’t far away. Li Sicheng rode his electric scooter and arrived in about ten minutes.
From a distance, the officer who had led the patrol earlier spotted him and greeted him with a smile. “Hey, Li, you’re here! Come in. The sooner we finish your statement, the sooner you can go home.”
“No rush. Let me lock up my scooter first.” Li Sicheng parked the scooter and pulled out not one, but three locks from the basket.
The officer couldn’t help but laugh, waving his hand. “There’s really no need for that here. This is a police station—it’s perfectly safe.”
“Better safe than sorry,” Li Sicheng replied without looking up, busy fastening the locks.
The officer was momentarily at a loss for words. Of course, it made sense to be cautious, but being so meticulous inside a police station? Besides, his scooter looked so battered no thief would want it. And even if someone did, they’d never dare steal it right here under the police’s noses. Did he think the officers were just decorative?
Fortunately, Li Sicheng moved quickly, locking all three in just a dozen seconds. He then walked over to the officer, grinning. “Officer, where should we take my statement?”
Seeing Li Sicheng’s bright smile, any trace of annoyance the officer had felt vanished instantly.
“As the saying goes, children speak without malice. How could I take issue with a kid?” Shaking his head, the officer led Li Sicheng into an office and personally took his statement.
Because Li Sicheng was so cooperative, it was done in just over ten minutes.
“That’s it, you can go home now. Want me to give you a ride?” the officer offered kindly. It was nearly ten at night; although Yongcheng was safe, it was never entirely risk-free for a youngster to walk home so late.
Li Sicheng politely declined, “Thank you, officer, but I’ll be fine on my own. You’re busy enough, I won’t trouble you.”
“What a polite child. My daughter’s about your age, but she’s nowhere near as sensible—you’re worlds apart. She gives me quite the headache.” The officer sighed and stood, saying, “Come on, I’ll see you to the door.”
As they stepped out into the station’s main hall, they saw Cheng Haoyu following behind a middle-aged man, heading outside. Cheng Haoyu spotted Li Sicheng too, and his expression immediately turned dark and twisted.
The middle-aged man in front sensed something was off and turned to ask in a low voice, “Is something wrong, Young Master Cheng?”
Cheng Haoyu gritted his teeth. “Lawyer Liu, that’s the brat who got me dragged in here.”
This man was Liu Yong, the Cheng family’s go-to lawyer. Cheng Haoyu’s father was away on business, and upon hearing his son was at the station, had immediately sent Liu Yong to handle the matter.
Liu Yong glanced at Li Sicheng and quietly warned, “Young master, this is a police station. Don’t do anything rash.”
Cheng Haoyu nodded, forcibly suppressing his anger, and followed Liu Yong out.
Meanwhile, before Li Sicheng could ask, the officer explained, “That gang of thugs won’t admit to knowing him. Since we have no other evidence, we had to let him go.”
In fact, not only had the thugs refused to talk, but a leader from the city police department had personally called, urging them to release Cheng Haoyu. Of course, the officer didn’t share this detail with Li Sicheng.
Moreover, as Lin Siyu had guessed, Cheng Haoyu had indeed tried to have Lawyer Liu press slander charges against Li Sicheng. But thanks to the officer’s firm stance and the efforts of Nanshan Middle School, the matter was dropped.
For this, Lin Siyu deserved some credit. Although she always claimed to hate Li Sicheng and wanted to see him embarrassed, she actually couldn’t bear it. Since Li Sicheng asked her not to tell Lin Muxue, after some thought, she called Zhao Shuncheng, the principal, for help. If not for that, Li Sicheng might have found himself facing slander charges.
The officer had worried Li Sicheng would lose his temper, but to his surprise, Li Sicheng was unfazed watching Cheng Haoyu leave, as if he had expected this outcome all along.
“This kid is far too mature—not at all like a fourteen or fifteen-year-old…” the officer marveled inwardly.
After bidding farewell, Li Sicheng rode his scooter away from the station. A hundred meters down the road, a BMW 7 Series caught up from behind, the window rolling down to reveal Cheng Haoyu leaning out from the back seat.
He glared at Li Sicheng and hissed through gritted teeth, “Li, don’t get cocky. We’re not done yet! If I don’t ruin you, I’ll change my family name!”
Li Sicheng didn’t take the threat seriously. He let out a derisive laugh, then raised a finger. “Cheng Haoyu, you act so arrogant just because your family’s rich and powerful? Give me one week—I’ll bankrupt your family’s business and send your cousin to prison. We’ll see then if you can still strut around like this!”
Cheng Haoyu was momentarily stunned, then burst out laughing. “You? You think you can bankrupt my family and get my cousin arrested? Who do you think you are? Are you trying to frighten me? You’re overestimating yourself! Fine, let’s see whose life is ruined in a week—yours or mine!”
Li Sicheng nodded seriously. “Alright, let’s see.”
Cheng Haoyu sneered, gave him the finger, and signaled the driver to go.
The BMW sped off, leaving Li Sicheng far behind in the blink of an eye.
Strangely, instead of heading back to the British Garden estate, Li Sicheng followed after the BMW. Even though the car soon disappeared from sight, he seemed to have a tracking device on Cheng Haoyu, following all the way to the Cheng family’s luxury villa in downtown Yongcheng after half an hour.
By then, Cheng Haoyu was already home.
Li Sicheng found a hidden spot to park and lock his scooter, then swaggered into the villa community behind an elderly couple out for a walk. The security guard, seeing his handsome face, assumed he was a relative and let him pass without question.
Once inside, Li Sicheng headed straight for the Cheng family villa. Although it was his first time there, he navigated as if he knew the place well, as though he’d scouted it in advance.
Within minutes, the Cheng family’s detached villa appeared before him.
He surveyed the surroundings and nodded to himself. “This house faces south with a shorter left and longer right side, perfectly matching the ‘Five Directions of Prosperity’ formation—no wonder the Cheng family business has flourished. But unfortunately, their good days end tonight!”
