Chapter 40: An Enchanting Smile

The crowd gathered downstairs, upon hearing the cries of surprise from Mo Ke, Zhao Ya, and the others, were first taken aback, then erupted into laughter.
Such a reaction not only left Mo Ke, Zhao Ya, and their companions completely bewildered, but also enraged them.
“What’s wrong with these people? Don’t they have any compassion?”
“Exactly! Someone could have died from that fall, yet they’re laughing—they can still find humor in this? How utterly heartless!”
“Ah, human nature is so cold! These spectators are simply despicable!”
But these words only made the laughter from downstairs grow louder.
At that moment, Mo Ke, Zhao Ya, and the others calmed themselves. Suddenly, they realized that the crowd’s behavior was not at all the expected response to witnessing a tragedy.
What… what on earth is happening?
Could it be that Li Sicheng and Liu Wei are still alive? But they had clearly seen the two fall, clearly seen the nylon rope snap and drop—how could anyone possibly turn the tide in such a dire situation?
Just then, Mo Ke spotted a familiar figure in the crowd below and hurriedly called out, “Ai Ai, what is going on? Where are they?”
The girl, still holding a takeout meal, was Mo Ke’s roommate who had gone with her to the cafeteria earlier.
The girl called Ai Ai shouted back, “They’re in a dorm room on the fifth floor! Mo Ke, Zhao Ya, you missed it—the boy’s reactions and actions were so cool, so amazing!”
Her excitement was palpable; like many of the girls around her, she had crowned Li Sicheng as her idol.
“A dorm room on the fifth floor? How did they end up there?”
The people on the rooftop exchanged confused glances; no matter how wild their imaginations, they could not fathom what had just transpired, how Li Sicheng and Liu Wei had escaped danger and ended up in a fifth-floor dormitory.
“Let’s go see for ourselves.”
After a brief moment of shock, Mo Ke was the first to recover, turning and rushing toward the stairs.
Zhao Ya, the dorm supervisor, and the other girls who followed quickly snapped out of their daze and hurried after her.

A crowd soon gathered on the fifth floor, finding Li Sicheng and Liu Wei. Meanwhile, the throng from downstairs surged upward like a tide, flooding the dormitory and the corridor outside until not a single space remained.
“What exactly happened just now? Weren’t you two falling from the building? How did you end up in this room?” Mo Ke, ignoring the shattered glass on the floor, ran up to Li Sicheng and Liu Wei, curiosity brimming in her voice.
“I don’t know what happened either—I was so scared, I kept my eyes shut the whole time,” Liu Wei shook her head, equally puzzled by her own rescue.
Their gazes converged on Li Sicheng.
“This isn’t something I can explain in a few words,” Li Sicheng said, spreading his hands.
At that moment, someone pushed through the crowd, holding up a phone and shouting, “I recorded a video of the whole thing!”
Apparently, after spotting someone on the rooftop about to jump, this person had started filming—never expecting to capture a scene worthy of an action movie.
Those who had been on the roof had no idea what happened after Li Sicheng and Liu Wei fell. Now, seeing someone with footage, they rushed over. Liu Wei herself leaned in to watch.
Without question, as everyone witnessed Li Sicheng’s astonishing reactions and actions, they could not help but cry out in shock.
“My god, is this really not a movie?”
“Those moves were so cool! Compared to him, the boys who play basketball or soccer look so weak—this is what a real athlete looks like!”
“Li, did you train before? Your skills are almost unreal!”
When the video ended, the student who had recorded it exclaimed excitedly, “Alright, give me back my phone—I need to upload this to our school’s forum and message boards! I guarantee this video will go viral!”
Meanwhile, now understanding how she was saved, Liu Wei looked at Li Sicheng with gratitude shining in her eyes.
She opened her mouth, wanting to express her thanks, but the words caught in her throat.
Finally, after taking a deep breath, she bowed deeply to Li Sicheng and uttered three words: “Thank you.”
Though just a simple ‘thank you,’ it carried the fullness of her heartfelt emotion.
Zhao Ya stepped forward at this moment, embarrassed, sticking out her tongue before apologizing to Li Sicheng, “Sorry, Li, I misunderstood you earlier.”

Previously, she had mistaken Li Sicheng for a perverted stalker. Now, after witnessing his selfless courage, she realized how gravely wrong she had been—absurdly so.
A perverted stalker?
What a joke! Have you ever heard of a stalker risking his life to save someone? That’s just not how it works!
“It’s alright—as long as everyone’s safe,” Li Sicheng accepted Zhao Ya’s apology. Though, throughout, he never understood what he could have done to make Zhao Ya mistake him for a stalker in the first place…
Hearing this, Zhao Ya felt a chill run down her spine. If Li Sicheng hadn’t rushed out from the dorm earlier, Liu Wei might not have survived. The thought left her shaken; she nodded, “Yes, thank goodness everyone’s okay.”
Li Sicheng smiled, letting the matter drop to spare Zhao Ya any further discomfort. Turning to Liu Wei, he said, “Liu Wei, you’ve ‘died’ once now—surely you won’t lose hope again?”
“Don’t worry, I’ll never do anything foolish again,” Liu Wei said firmly, shaking her head.
Having walked to the edge of death, she gained new insight and realized how childish and laughable her earlier impulses had been.
“That’s good,” Li Sicheng grinned.
He was genuinely happy.
What could be more joyful in this world than saving a life?
A shaft of noontime sunlight streamed through the window, falling just on Li Sicheng.
His smile in the sunlight was warm and captivating.
For a moment, everyone present, young and old, male or female, was spellbound.
Many took out their phones, eager to capture that poetic, enchanting smile—hoping to keep it as a memory forever…
