Chapter 36: A Longing for Death
Liu Wei paid no attention to what Mo Ke was saying.
To be precise, she hadn’t listened to a single word.
At this moment, Liu Wei’s face was ashen, her eyes swollen, clear signs of a recent bout of weeping. Once she burst into the dormitory, she not only ignored Mo Ke but failed to notice the presence of an extra boy in the room. She strode quickly to her bed, opened a box beside her pillow, and took out several photographs.
Without exception, every photo was a picture of her with her boyfriend.
In these photos, Liu Wei’s smile was blissful and sweet—entirely unlike her current expression and demeanor.
“Liu Wei, what’s wrong?” Mo Ke sensed something was amiss and hurried over to ask.
Liu Wei gave no reply, only bit her lip in silence and began tearing the once-sweet photographs to shreds.
Witnessing this, Mo Ke seemed to understand and asked with concern, “Did you argue with your boyfriend?”
Still, Liu Wei said nothing.
She was completely immersed in her own world of sorrow, oblivious to everything and everyone around her.
Meanwhile, Li Sicheng’s gaze had shifted to the mirror at the foot of the bed.
The mirror reflected Liu Wei’s face, displaying her every expression.
“This is bad!” Seeing the hint of despair and resentment flicker in Liu Wei’s eyes, Li Sicheng’s face grew even more serious, and he shouted, “Senior Mo, grab her!”
Mo Ke was a second-year student, so it was only natural for Li Sicheng to address her as senior.
“Huh?” Mo Ke was startled, not understanding what Li Sicheng meant.
There was no time to explain. Li Sicheng rushed toward Liu Wei, but a long table stood in the middle of the dorm, blocking his path. He had no choice but to go around it.
Just then, Liu Wei, having shredded the photos, suddenly stood up. Her lips curved into a mournful, chilling smile.
That smile sent shivers down one’s spine.
A wave of unease surged in Mo Ke’s heart. “Liu Wei, what’s wrong? Don’t scare me.”
She reached out to restrain Liu Wei, but it was already too late.
Liu Wei suddenly bolted from the room, sprinting at a remarkable speed.
Li Sicheng quickly turned and gave chase.
At that moment, several figures appeared outside the dormitory door.
It was Zhao Ya and the dorm matron, whom she’d called.
“Stop her!” Li Sicheng shouted urgently.
He didn’t know why the dorm matron had come, nor did he have time to find out. At that moment, his only thought was to stop Liu Wei.
Yet the people at the door didn’t heed Li Sicheng’s command. Zhao Ya even shouted, “Weiwei, what happened? Did this guy do something to you? Don’t be afraid, I brought the dorm matron!”
Clearly, Zhao Ya had misunderstood Li Sicheng once again.
Seeing Liu Wei’s tear-stained face, her first assumption was that Li Sicheng had harassed her. So, instead of blocking Liu Wei, she and the dorm matron actually stood in front of the door, blocking Li Sicheng’s way.
“Move!” Li Sicheng barked.
Saving someone’s life was urgent—he didn’t want to waste a second.
His reaction only deepened the matron’s misunderstanding. She thought he was trying to escape after being caught harassing someone. Her face hardened, eyes widened, and she shouted, “Which class are you from? How dare you cause trouble in the girls’ dormitory! You must have nerves of steel! Come with me to your headteacher! You’re going to be severely punished today!”
Inside, Mo Ke was gaping in astonishment. “Harassing? When did Li even harass anyone?”
Zhao Ya said, “Mo Ke, this guy you brought to the dorm isn’t a good person at all… He didn’t take advantage of you, did he?”
Hearing this, black lines formed on Li Sicheng’s forehead.
Harassing?
Do I look like someone who would do that? If anything, I’m always the one at the receiving end!
Right now, Li Sicheng had no time to defend himself. He could only shout at the people blocking the doorway, “Why are you stopping me? Go after Liu Wei! Can’t you see the dark shadow between her brows, the bloodshot eyes, the ashen face? These signs together add up to someone seeking death! If you don’t stop her now, something terrible will happen!”
“Something terrible?”
Those blocking the doorway were startled.
But soon, they regained their composure and sneered, “You think we’ll believe such nonsense? We know you’re just trying to trick us so you can escape!”
Clearly, they didn’t believe him.
And who could blame them? If someone suddenly told you that your friend was going to die because of their facial features, would you believe it?
Since they refused to move, Li Sicheng could only force his way through.
With a sudden burst of strength, he shoved the dorm matron aside.
Though she was sturdy, Li Sicheng’s push sent her stumbling back several steps, creating a gap.
Li Sicheng ducked low and slipped past her with astonishing speed, chasing Liu Wei down the corridor.
“Don’t let that scoundrel get away!” the matron roared, regaining her balance and charging after him.
“Catch the pervert! Everyone, come out and help catch the pervert!” Zhao Ya shouted as she joined the chase.
Assuming that Li Sicheng, the so-called pervert, was trying to escape, both Zhao Ya and the matron thought he’d run downstairs. But when their group reached the stairwell, they were shocked to find that Li Sicheng hadn’t gone down, but was racing upward to the roof.
“What’s going on? Did he panic and go the wrong way?” Zhao Ya wondered aloud.
“Doesn’t matter—just catch him first!” the matron bellowed, pounding up the stairs. “That idiot, running upstairs—he’s cornered himself! Once we catch him, he’ll pay dearly for this!”
They were so focused on chasing Li Sicheng that they didn’t notice Liu Wei herself was running up to the roof, with Li Sicheng in pursuit.
Their shouts and the commotion soon drew many girls out of their rooms, all joining the chase, united in their intent to catch the intruder in the girls’ dormitory.
Soon, the whole group burst onto the rooftop.
Because it was hard to air bedding in the dorms, the students had tied many nylon ropes across the rooftop, creating a sea of fluttering quilts and blankets in the sun—at a glance, it looked like a forest of colorful flags.
Once they pushed through the hanging quilts and could see the situation clearly, everyone gasped in horror.
“Weiwei, come down! Don’t do anything foolish!” Zhao Ya cried, her voice trembling.
At this moment, all thoughts of chasing Li Sicheng had vanished—even though the so-called pervert was only a few steps away.
Because Liu Wei was already standing at the edge of the rooftop, looking down, preparing to jump.
Liu Wei truly intended to end her life!
And everything Li Sicheng had said was coming true.
