Chapter 14: The Calamity Star?
“How dare you! Not only do you show no respect for your elders, but you even dared to hit me!” Ma Kang, dizzy from being struck by the ball, hadn’t figured out what had happened, and assumed it was the disobedient “bad student” before him who had attacked him.
Falsely accused, Li Sicheng could only feel helpless. He raised his hand and pointed to the soccer ball lying at Ma Kang’s feet. “Come on, you were clearly hit by that soccer ball. I even kindly warned you to step aside, but you just wouldn’t listen…”
“Soccer ball?” Ma Kang’s muddled mind finally cleared a little.
He spun around and looked toward the nearby soccer field. Unfortunately, his reaction was a bit slow. All he could see were the backs of a group of students fleeing in panic — he couldn’t get a clear look at the “culprits” at all.
“Stop! You there, stop right now!”
Ma Kang shouted furiously, but the students who’d been playing soccer paid no heed to his commands.
As if! This was the time to run as fast as possible. If they obediently stopped, wouldn’t that be courting disaster? “King Yama Ma” wasn’t one to show mercy for a confession. If he caught them, at the very least they’d get a disciplinary report and have their parents called in.
Seeing the students scatter like startled birds, Ma Kang was at a loss.
Chase them? They were already far away; there was no way he could catch up.
In the end, all Ma Kang could do was roar at their rapidly disappearing backs, “You little brats, you’d better hope I never find out who you are, or you’ll find out what I’m capable of!” His anger and frustration had nowhere to go.
The students around them, having witnessed the whole scene, couldn’t help but stifle their laughter.
They’d suffered plenty under “King Yama Ma” in the past. To see him finally get his comeuppance was a rare delight — how could they not be happy?
Already embarrassed, Ma Kang turned red as a monkey’s backside when he heard the students’ snickering.
Fuming, he pointed around at the laughing students and barked, “What are you laughing at? Shut your mouths! Which class are you from? How dare you mock your teacher? That’s it, I’m going to have a good talk with your homeroom teachers and see to it that you’re properly punished!”
“Excuse me…” Li Sicheng opened his mouth again.
Ma Kang, thinking Li Sicheng was about to back down, suddenly felt much better. He snorted, “What now, finally scared? Ready to admit you were wrong? Well, it’s too late for that!”
Li Sicheng shook his head. “I just wanted to remind you — be careful behind you.”
“Behind me? What’s behind me?” Ma Kang frowned and instinctively turned to look.
A round, dark shadow was hurtling straight toward him at great speed.
“No… no way, not again?” Ma Kang’s face went white with fear. He tried to dodge, but it was far too late.
With a dull thud, a basketball struck him squarely in the face.
Scarlet blood immediately gushed from his nose.
The basketball had bloodied his nose!
First his head had been hit by a soccer ball, and now his face by a basketball… It seemed Ma Kang really was destined for a day with the balls.
“Who? Who did it this time?” Ma Kang howled, his face twisted in rage.
But the students playing basketball had also scattered the moment the incident happened, leaving only the basketball behind — there was no way for Ma Kang to find out who had ambushed him.
“Are you alright?” Li Sicheng came over, asking with genuine concern.
But this time, Ma Kang’s reaction was very different. The moment he saw Li Sicheng approach, he quickly waved him away. “Don’t come near me! Stay away!”
“You’re bleeding from your nose. Do you want me to take a look?” Li Sicheng offered.
He was unwilling to miss any opportunity to do a good deed — it was crucial for his plans for survival.
Ma Kang was on the verge of tears. “My nose is bleeding all because of you! Stay away from me, you little disaster-bringer!”
He spoke as he retreated.
Wasn’t he a bringer of disaster? Since meeting Li Sicheng, in just a few short minutes, he’d already been hit by two balls in a row…
Not only a disaster-bringer, but a real “star of the ball”!
“Hey, watch out…” Li Sicheng tried to speak again.
“Just stop talking already!” Ma Kang was truly about to cry. He suddenly felt that Li Sicheng’s mouth was more ominous than a crow’s — every time he opened it, disaster followed.
“Where is the next ball going to come from?” Ma Kang quickly shielded his head with his hands, scanning the surroundings in alarm.
But while he was protecting his head, his foot landed on the hairclip he had thrown aside earlier. Instantly, his ankle twisted and he fell straight to the ground, his head landing squarely on the basketball that had hit him before.
Thud!
The sound was enough to make your scalp tingle.
“Dis… disaster-bringer…”
Ma Kang raised a trembling hand, pointing at Li Sicheng.
After uttering those words, he suddenly blacked out and passed out on the spot.
