Chapter 117: Are You Playing Games With Us?
"It must be a coincidence! It has to be!"
Lying on the ground in a disheveled state, Fang Yi looked at Li Sichen with eyes full of shock and hesitation. He could not bring himself to believe that a fifteen or sixteen-year-old boy could accurately predict where an explosion would occur in the middle of a burning building. Such a skill was something even they, as professional firefighters, did not possess. Therefore, what had just happened was absolutely a coincidence—it had to be!
Fang Yi quickly concocted what he deemed a logical explanation: "I get it now. He must have seen the signs before the explosion, which is why he was able to warn us in time. Yes, that must be it!"
In a fire, explosions are often preceded by subtle changes. However, these signs usually occur so rapidly that even if people notice them, they lack the time to react. Fang Yi would much rather believe that Li Sichen possessed sharper eyes and faster reflexes than the average person than accept that he could predict where an explosion would happen.
Ouyang Long was also filled with shock and disbelief, but he did not share Fang Yi's assessment. He remembered very clearly that Li Sichen had warned them of an impending explosion even before he told them to hit the deck.
"This is definitely not a coincidence! He really did anticipate the explosion well in advance! God, can someone tell me how he managed to do that?"
If a seasoned, veteran firefighter could judge where an explosion might occur, it wouldn't be strange. But the problem was that Li Sichen looked young—no more than sixteen—and was clearly a student, not some experienced professional. So, how did he predict the explosion? Ouyang Long simply couldn't wrap his head around it. Had he not experienced it firsthand, he would never have believed it to be true.
Overwhelmed by shock and confusion, the two firefighters momentarily forgot to get up.
It wasn't until Li Sichen waved at them and shouted, "Don't just lie there like fools! Get out of here; it's extremely dangerous in this inferno!" that they snapped out of their stupor.
Fang Yi scrambled to his feet and snapped back, "You know it's dangerous, yet you still rushed in? Enough talk, come with us and get out!"
Although they were only a few meters apart, communicating amidst the roaring fire required shouting to be heard.
Li Sichen refused, "There is someone trapped in this fire. I must rescue them!"
"What? Someone is trapped inside?" This news startled both Ouyang Long and Fang Yi.
Ouyang Long hurriedly asked, "Where? Tell us the location, and we will save them! As for you, get out immediately. Things in this fire are best left to us professionals!"
Li Sichen shook his head. "I don't know exactly where yet. The only thing I can be certain of is that they aren't on the first floor. I can only calculate the specific location once I reach the second floor."
"Don't be ridiculous! You haven't had professional training; it's extremely dangerous in there! Tell us where you last saw the person. We'll search the area! With a fire this big, they must be trapped nearby; they couldn't have gone far." Ouyang Long clearly misunderstood, thinking it was a friend or relative of Li Sichen's.
However, Li Sichen's response stunned them once again. "I have never seen the person trapped, and I don't know them."
Ouyang Long paused. "Then how do you know someone is trapped? Did you see their friends or family? Did you hear them mention it?"
Li Sichen shook his head again. "None of that."
This answer was completely unexpected. Fang Yi, who had a shorter temper, became annoyed. "You're rushing into a death trap without any information? Are you trying to get yourself killed, or are you just playing with us?"
Even the mild-mannered Ouyang Long was getting frustrated. He frowned and questioned, "Nothing? Then how can you be sure someone is trapped in there?"
"I calculated it," Li Sichen said truthfully.
Ouyang Long and Fang Yi were practically driven to the point of spitting blood. Calculated? Was he kidding? Did he think this was a math problem? Calculated, my foot! If it were really possible to calculate such things, why would they need to invent life-detection equipment? They could just call a few math teachers over and use a formula!
Almost instantly, Ouyang Long and Fang Yi reached a consensus: the young man before them was completely out of his mind.
Ouyang Long issued the order, "Fang Yi, together now! We're dragging him out by force!"
"Understood!" Fang Yi shouted, and they both lunged toward Li Sichen.
At that moment, Li Sichen moved as well. Instead of waiting for them, he dashed toward the second floor. Seeing this, Ouyang Long and Fang Yi shouted in unison, "Stop, don't go up there! The fire on the second floor is even worse than the first!"
"Damn it, are you trying to throw your life away?"
Li Sichen ignored them. Disregarding the roaring flames beside him, he sprinted to the second floor. He crouched at the top of the stairs, placed his hand on the floor, and began to trace patterns rapidly.
Soon, the two firefighters caught up. Seeing Li Sichen crouching there, Fang Yi scolded, "Kid, you finally know what fear is, right? Stop squatting there like a fool, get up and follow us out of this fire!" In his view, Li Sichen was simply terrified by the horrifying intensity of the fire on the second floor.
As he spoke, he reached out to pull Li Sichen up. However, when his hand gripped Li Sichen's shoulder and he pulled with all his might, he couldn't help but let out a gasp of surprise.
Li Sichen's body was incredibly stable. Despite using all his strength, Fang Yi couldn't budge him. Li Sichen didn't even tremble.
What was going on? Fang Yi was stunned. As a professional firefighter, he underwent rigorous training daily. His arm strength was far beyond that of an ordinary person; usually, even a stout, muscular man would be easily lifted by his grip, let alone a slender, pale-looking student like Li Sichen. Yet, this boy, whom Fang Yi thought he could lift with one hand, wouldn't budge no matter how hard he pulled.
It was simply unscientific!
