090 The Envoy
In the headquarters tower of the Golden Sun Group, there was a slightly smaller room opposite the chief executive’s office.
This was Lin Qi’s office and private rest room.
No sooner had Lin Qi stepped inside than he received a call from Tang Long.
Lin Qi let out a sigh. He knew why Tang Long was calling, but he could only answer.
“Young Master, is it convenient for you to talk now?” Tang Long asked softly.
“Yes,” Lin Qi replied.
Once he had the answer he wanted, Tang Long immediately grew anxious. “Young Master, how did you end up becoming Song Qingzhu’s bodyguard?”
Lin Qi muttered, “That black-eyed bastard really likes running to you with complaints. He got to you that fast, huh...”
“How can that be called complaining?” Tang Long’s voice was tinged with despair. “Young Master, didn’t I tell you? Song Qingzhu might be one of them. She’s extremely dangerous! How could you go and stay by her side...”
Lin Qi cut him off. “I know what you mean, Tang Long. But watching all of you work yourselves to the bone every day while I alone am useless and idle—it really weighs on me. I wanted to do my part too. Besides, I’m fine, aren’t I? I’ve already managed to get close to Song Qingzhu...”
Then Lin Qi recounted everything that had happened recently.
“I just feel that since Heaven arranged such a good opportunity for me, it must have some special meaning. I can’t let it slip by! And I’ve infiltrated very well. Song Qingzhu still doesn’t know who I really am, and on the contrary, she trusts me more and more. Don’t worry. I’ll take care of myself. Your young master isn’t so fragile.”
Tang Long understood why Lin Qi had done this, but he still felt utterly speechless.
It was too dangerous. Far too dangerous.
But the deed was done, and there was nothing he could do.
He could only accept reality.
“All right...” Tang Long said heavily. “Young Master, have you discovered anything?”
“Not yet,” Lin Qi said. “But that woman’s skilled. She’s definitely an expert.”
“Yes, Black-Eyed told me that too. A young female CEO of unknown origin and uncertain identity, and on top of that she possesses such formidable skills—no matter how you look at it, she’s a rather mysterious figure. It’s very possible she has something to do with them.”
“I’ll keep looking into it.”
“Young Master, you must be careful. Be absolutely careful!”
“I know, you talk too much.”
Lin Qi hung up.
On the other side, since Black-Eyed had failed to get the five million, he had no choice but to call Uncle Qiu and say the job could not be done.
“Why?” Uncle Qiu was greatly taken aback. In Haicheng, was there really work Black-Eyed could not do?
“What’s with all the why’s? If I can’t do it, I can’t do it!” Black-Eyed snapped, then hung up.
Uncle Qiu was naturally left in utter despair.
If even Black-Eyed was helpless, then no one could do it.
The Golden Sun Group really was powerful...
In the Qiu family ancestral hall, before a roomful of clan members, Uncle Qiu could only announce helplessly, “Abandon the revenge. Honor the contract...”
In the end, one arm could not twist a thigh.
Starting the next day, the long-silent construction site finally resumed work. The rumble of machines filled every corner, and the laborers in their various colored helmets were busy once more.
That evening, Lin Qi drove Song Qingzhu home.
“President Song, I’ll come get you tomorrow morning. If anything comes up, just call me.”
“All right.”
Lin Qi drove away, and Song Qingzhu turned to head inside.
But the villa that should have been empty now had two more people in it.
The two of them, one fat and one thin, were seated on the sofa in the living room, each wearing a purple badge on his chest.
When they saw Song Qingzhu enter, they both stood up.
Song Qingzhu, who had always been proud and aloof, with eyes above the world, actually revealed an expression of extreme nervousness.
“Fat Envoy, Thin Envoy, why are you here?” she hurriedly went to pour them water.
Yet she could barely walk straight; her high heels twisted awkwardly several times.
“Qingzhu, no need to fuss. We’re here to ask you—have you taken care of the Dragon Leap Group yet?” the Fat Envoy asked with a smile, looking for all the world like a benevolent laughing Buddha.
But his smile made Song Qingzhu feel a chill run straight through her.
The Thin Envoy, meanwhile, remained expressionless, his face cold and unyielding at all times.
“N-not yet...” Song Qingzhu said nervously.
“The three months are almost up now,” the Fat Envoy said, still smiling. “If the Dragon Leap Group still hasn’t been dealt with after three months, you know what the consequences will be.”
“I-I know...” Cold sweat dripped from Song Qingzhu’s forehead.
“Good that you know. We came to remind you. After all, the organization spent enormous amounts of money, manpower, and resources to cultivate you, so we hope you won’t disappoint the organization. All right, we’re leaving now. We’ll come see you again in a few days.”
The Fat Envoy and the Thin Envoy turned and walked out together.
Only after the two of them opened the door and left completely did Song Qingzhu collapse onto the floor.
Her body went limp, and she was drenched from head to toe in cold sweat.
