Jinyang Group, a certain branch.

Inside the manager’s office.

Supervisor Wei from the design department was being berated.

“You really are an idiot! Why did you use their design proposal? Do you have any idea how passive this has made us now? I can’t even tell what’s inside that thing on your shoulders—full of manure or sulfuric acid? If you can’t do your job, just get out!”

Manager Zhan’s finger was nearly pressed against Supervisor Wei’s face, and his spittle had long since covered Wei’s entire face.

Wei felt utterly wretched. He had only agreed to Longyue Group’s design plan because he’d discovered that Luo Feifei’s brother-in-law was no ordinary person. His real intention was to use Luo Feifei as a stepping stone to get in with Lin Qi, which would make life at the company much smoother.

Such a valuable connection, of course, couldn’t be shared with Manager Zhan!

And yet, over the past few days, Manager Zhan had scolded him mercilessly, sometimes several times a day. Everyone in the department was laughing at him!

Should he endure the humiliation and bide his time for a comeback, or should he reveal this secret for a moment’s peace?

That was the question.

“Later, Manager Bu from Longyue Group will be coming over for a meeting. You need to convince them to change the proposal, or you’re out of a job!” Manager Zhan continued.

“Manager Zhan, the contract has already been signed. If we change it now, I’m afraid that won’t look good…” Wei said, bowing and scraping.

“Then you can pack your things and leave now!”

“Please, don’t…”

Wei was on the verge of tears. If he got fired, what use would any connection be?

“Manager Zhan, let me be honest with you. The reason I agreed to their design that day was because…” Wei poured his heart out, recounting the events of that day.

Manager Zhan listened, dumbfounded. “Luo Feifei’s brother-in-law is a big shot, and even Secretary Zhou is deferential to him?”

Wei spoke with conviction, “Yes!”

“What’s his name?”

“Well… I didn’t have the chance to ask.”

“You didn’t even get his name and you already agreed to the proposal? Aren’t you worried you’ve been taken for a ride?!”

Manager Zhan flew into a rage, snatching up a file folder and bringing it down on Wei’s head.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Wei took a few hits and looked ready to cry. Suddenly, a figure flashed past the window. His eyes lit up, as though he’d found a lifeline. Excitedly, he exclaimed, “Manager Zhan, that’s him! Luo Feifei’s brother-in-law!”

Following Wei’s gaze, Manager Zhan saw a rather handsome young man, dressed sharply and neatly.

“Manager Zhan, he’s definitely a big shot. I saw with my own eyes how deferential Secretary Zhou was to him…” Wei hurried to explain.

But Manager Zhan grew even angrier. He snatched up the folder and smacked Wei a few more times, roaring, “A big shot? He’s nothing but a delivery guy!”

“How could that be?!” Wei was stunned.

“Why not? I’ve seen him before—he’s delivered food to me! You’re a fool, being played by a delivery guy!”

“But I saw him driving President Song’s Mercedes…”

“A delivery guy moonlighting as a chauffeur—what’s so strange about that? I’m amazed at your gullibility. Pack your things and get out!”

Manager Zhan, nearly beside himself, raised the folder to hit Wei again.

At that moment, someone suddenly stepped in. It was Lin Qi.

“Hello, Supervisor Wei. You’re here too!” Lin Qi greeted him with a friendly smile—they’d met once before.

“Uh…” Wei was at a loss for words, unsure how to respond.

Manager Zhan was furious, about to demand what Lin Qi was doing there, but Lin Qi had already walked up to him.

“You must be Manager Zhan?” Lin Qi patted him on the shoulder and leaned in to say quietly, “Well done. I’m very impressed.”

This utterly bewildered Manager Zhan.

After saying this, Lin Qi didn’t linger, but turned and left.

He had genuinely meant the praise.

After hearing Luo Feifei’s complaints the night before, Lin Qi had concluded that Manager Zhan was a good mentor—someone who could quickly help Luo Feifei become a workplace elite. So, passing by the office, he’d stopped in to say hello.

A quick greeting so as not to disturb their work—Lin Qi was self-aware enough to know when to leave.

But Manager Zhan was about to explode.

Who are you?

What gives you the right to pat me on the shoulder and say “well done”?

Manager Zhan was about to erupt, but just then, another person entered the office, colliding with Lin Qi as he was about to leave.

“Oh, Secretary Zhou, what brings you here?” Lin Qi asked in surprise.

“Oh, I just came to pick up a file. What are you doing here?” Secretary Zhou replied casually.

In reality, he’d seen on the surveillance cameras that Lin Qi had entered Manager Zhan’s office. Since Manager Zhan was a senior manager and his office wasn’t under surveillance, Secretary Zhou had hurried over to see what Lin Qi was up to.

As it happened, the two ran into each other.

“I’m just looking around, getting familiar with our group’s offices,” Lin Qi said cheerfully.
