Banknotes
His legs felt weak, and sweat poured down his face.
This was the truest reflection of Boss Chai’s current state.
If only he’d brought more men—who could have guessed a deliveryman would be so tough?
“I... I don’t know...” Boss Chai stammered. “It was Lucen who ordered me to catch you. I was just following his commands.”
Lucen—Lu Hao’s father?
Lin Qi instantly understood what was going on.
Hadn’t Tang Long already cleaned up this mess? Why was trouble still finding its way to him?
“This must be a misunderstanding,” Lin Qi said. “I don’t know Lucen. Please go back and tell him not to bother me again.”
“Yes, yes...” Boss Chai seemed as if he’d been granted a pardon and quickly turned to leave.
The two henchmen, who’d been knocked to the ground, scrambled after him, half-rolling, half-crawling.
“Middle of the night—how ridiculous...” Luo Feifei muttered nearby. Lin Qi had floored two thugs in a flash, but that didn’t surprise her. She’d seen him even more formidable before. “Brother-in-law, so what are you going to do next?”
Lin Qi’s expression remained cold. “Your sister and I are getting a divorce. You don’t need to call me brother-in-law anymore. And you shouldn’t come here again; there’s no longer any connection between us.”
Because of Boss Chai, Lin Qi felt the troubles were piling up, and this place might soon become unsafe for him.
The brother-in-law who was always gentle and amiable had suddenly become cold as ice. Luo Feifei found it hard to accept, but there was nothing she could say. She just lowered her head and murmured, “I understand...” Her eyes reddened, on the verge of tears.
Seeing her like this, Lin Qi softened a little. After all, they had spent a lot of time together.
Besides, what did Luo Yingying’s matters have to do with her?
Lin Qi’s tone eased somewhat. “Aren’t you supposed to be in school? Why are you here in the middle of the night?”
“I’m in my senior year,” Luo Feifei replied. “I’m preparing for my internship. I was supposed to come back next week, but today I heard Lu Hao died...”
Lin Qi didn’t want to talk about Lu Hao any further, so he changed the subject. “Internship? Have you found a company yet?”
Luo Feifei shook her head. “Not yet. I’m studying architecture. I’ve sent out resumes to several real estate companies, but haven’t heard back.”
Lin Qi recalled that Tang Long’s company also had real estate projects. “Have you tried Longyue Group?”
Luo Feifei looked helpless. “Brother-in-law, I’m just a student. How could I possibly qualify for an internship at such a big company?”
She was clearly used to calling him brother-in-law, and Lin Qi was too weary to correct her. “I used to work at Longyue Group. I was dismissed, but I still know some people there. Just send in your resume—I’ll put in a word for you, though I can’t guarantee anything.”
Luo Feifei was delighted. “Thank you, brother-in-law! If it works out, I’ll treat you to dinner!”
Lin Qi waved her off, indicating she could go.
Whereas Luo Feifei used to come and go freely in this apartment, now things were different.
A bit dejected, she glanced at Lin Qi as if wanting to say something, but in the end, she said nothing and left quietly.
Lin Qi locked the door behind her and immediately called Tang Long.
After recounting what had just happened, Tang Long grew anxious. “Lucen sent people after you? Young master, are you alright...?”
“I’m fine,” Lin Qi replied. “They’re nothing but a bunch of useless thugs—they can’t touch me. But I need you to handle this; I don’t want this kind of trouble happening again.”
“Yes, sir...”
Tang Long was about to hang up when Lin Qi remembered something. “I have a friend, Luo Feifei. She’s a senior in college, looking for an internship, and she might apply to your company. Have someone keep an eye out for her, but don’t treat her differently. Just let her go through the normal process.”
“Understood.” Tang Long didn’t ask further and agreed at once.
In a high-end apartment in the city center—
“He’s really that good?” Lucen frowned in disbelief.
“Yes, I couldn’t even see how he moved. My two men were sent flying instantly,” Boss Chai recalled, still shaken.
“Bring more men and go again!”
“Alright!”
Lucen had been half-convinced before, but now he was beginning to believe Lin Qi was indeed the one responsible.
Boss Chai quickly assembled a group—more than twenty strong, all armed with clubs, looking fierce and menacing.
Lucen led the team personally, determined to meet this Lin Qi himself.
Several vans were parked at the entrance to the complex. Just as Lucen was about to get into one, dazzling white headlights swept across the lot.
A two-toned Maybach—silver above, jet-black below—glided silently toward them.
Lucen was puzzled. The car door opened, and a young man in a black suit stepped out.
“Mr. Tang?” Lucen exclaimed in astonishment.
Who in Haitong City didn’t recognize Tang Long, president of Longyue Group?
But Lucen and Tang Long had never crossed paths; they moved in entirely different circles.
Before Lucen could react, Tang Long gestured with his hand.
Several brawny men in black suits approached, each dragging a suitcase.
Click, click, click—
One after another, the suitcases sprang open, revealing stack upon stack of crisp red banknotes.
