Chapter 041: I Regret It
“Master, are you serious?!” Tang Long’s eyes widened in disbelief.
“I am,” Lin Qi replied with a grave expression.
Tang Long was at a loss for words. He glanced toward the stage, where Hou Zeyan, the city’s mayor; Wei Qianzhong from the Special Operations Bureau; Zhu Zhenchang, king of pharmaceuticals; and Xin Mingyuan, king of jewelry, were all gathered. These were the kind of people who could shake the city of Haitong with a stomp. He’d worked so hard to invite them, the atmosphere was just right—and now, there would be no wedding?
This was absurd!
“What’s wrong, is it difficult?” Lin Qi asked.
“Not at all, it’s just a matter of saying a few more apologies…” Tang Long forced a smile and shook his head, but then grew serious. “Master, forgive me for saying something I shouldn’t. Ever since we escaped from the capital, your resolve has always been unwavering. We all trust you completely… But lately, it’s like you’re led around by a woman. She says get married, you get married; she says don’t, you don’t?”
Lin Qi’s brows knit together, a cold glint flashing in his eyes.
Tang Long immediately dropped his head in anxiety. “Master, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have spoken out of turn…”
After a moment, Lin Qi’s gaze softened. He clasped his hands behind his back and turned away. “Tang Long, I know you mean well. But rest assured, I haven’t changed at all from before! But Luo Feifei…”
He hesitated, unsure how to put it, then finally murmured, “She’s different. She’s worth it…”
For ten years, Lin Qi had lived cautiously, always scrutinizing those around him with suspicion. Even after three years of marriage, Luo Yingying had never penetrated his heart. Yet the pure, naive, stubborn, and kind Luo Feifei had moved him time and again.
But there was no need to explain further to Tang Long.
Lin Qi quickly regained his icy demeanor and said, “Don’t worry, it won’t happen again.”
Seeing Lin Qi’s attitude, Tang Long felt much more at ease and smiled. “Master, of course I believe you. We all do!”
He was, after all, the son of Lin Xuansheng—how could he possibly be mistaken?
“Master, you and Miss Feifei should head home. Leave the rest to me,” Tang Long said, then strode onto the stage.
Lin Qi returned to Luo Feifei’s side.
“It’s settled—we can go now!” Lin Qi said with a smile.
“We can leave?” Luo Feifei’s big eyes blinked in disbelief.
“Yes. Do you want to go home, or to my place?”
“To your place. My mother hasn’t forgiven me yet, and if I go home, they’ll tie me up…”
“All right, let’s go then.”
Lin Qi took Luo Feifei’s hand, and the two slipped out the back door.
In the grand hall of the Divine Pearl Hotel, Tang Long picked up the microphone again.
“I’m terribly sorry, everyone. I have bad news. Because the bride and groom aren’t ready, today’s wedding is temporarily canceled…”
As soon as he spoke, the room exploded in chaos.
Was this even possible?
Especially at the Luo family’s table—they were almost beside themselves with fury!
“What’s the meaning of this? Has Lin Qi changed his mind and doesn’t want to marry my daughter?”
“Tell Lin Qi, it’s impossible to abandon my daughter…”
“With all these important people here, let’s be reasonable—Lin Qi married my eldest daughter first, and now he wants to marry my second daughter…”
As the commotion grew, Tang Long’s patience snapped. He ordered, “Throw them out!”
Dozens of security guards with rubber batons rushed in, forcibly ejecting the Luo family.
Even outside the hotel, they wouldn’t let up.
“If Lin Qi dares abandon my daughter, I won’t let him off! I’m calling her right now—so many bigwigs are here, they have to judge this matter…” Luo’s father pulled out his phone and dialed Luo Feifei. “…What? You gave up the wedding yourself? Are you crazy? Did you not hear that Lin Qi saved Tang Long’s life? Holding onto this tree, you’ll never want for anything… Hurry back and hold the wedding… Hello? Hello?”
Luo’s father stared at his phone and roared at the sky, “She hung up on me! Raising this daughter is worse than raising a slab of roast pork!”
Across the street, Young Master Tong and Luo Yingying heard the uproar and hurried over.
With no guests, their own wedding couldn’t proceed; they’d been waiting outside the hotel entrance.
“What’s going on, Dad, Mom?” Luo Yingying asked, puzzled.
The crowd explained what had happened.
“Incredible!” Luo Yingying stamped her foot in anger and sighed in regret. “I really shouldn’t have divorced Lin Qi! Thankfully, they didn’t get married—there’s still hope for me!”
Beside her, Young Master Tong’s face turned dark as liver. “Yingying, how can you say that…”
