002 The Younger Sister-in-law
Dragon Leap Group, Rooftop.
Haitong City was not particularly large—by its scale, it barely qualified as a third-tier city. Yet, situated in the prosperous south, it boasted its share of skyscrapers, and the sixty-odd stories of the Dragon Leap Group towered among them.
Leaning against the railing, Lin Qi held a cigarette between his fingers, gazing down at the city’s nightscape, his thoughts drifting far beyond the glittering lights.
He had been married to Luo Yingying for three years, and what had happened tonight was something he had never imagined. Divorce, if it came to that, would not grieve him much; their union had always been more a matter of necessity than of love…
Had Luo Yingying not conspired with another to harm him, Lin Qi would never have harbored murderous thoughts toward his own wife.
Just then, his phone vibrated in his pocket.
He took it out and frowned slightly—it was Luo Feifei, Luo Yingying’s younger sister.
“Hello,” he answered.
“Brother-in-law…” Luo Feifei’s voice trembled with anxiety. “Brother-in-law, could you leave Haitong City for a few days?”
“Why?” Lin Qi’s tone was calm.
“Because…” Luo Feifei hesitated for a long time, as if summoning all her courage before finally speaking, “Brother-in-law, I’ll be honest—please don’t be angry. My sister… she’s seeing someone else. That man seems to mean you harm. Please, just get out of town for a while! You know my sister—she’s not really malicious, just a bit vain. Please don’t hate her… If it comes to it, I… I…”
Before Luo Feifei could finish, Lin Qi hung up.
He knew exactly what Luo Feifei was about to say.
—
Though Luo Yingying and Luo Feifei were sisters, their personalities could not have been more different. Luo Yingying was vain and ruthless, while Luo Feifei was pure, kind, and gentle.
Of course, Lin Qi attributed this to Luo Feifei still being in college. The campus, after all, was a place less tainted by scheming and deceit.
She attended university in a neighboring city, and Lin Qi often drove her back and forth, sometimes imparting little life lessons along the way. Over time, Luo Feifei developed feelings for him, and would often try to stay close.
Yet Lin Qi never thought much of her affection—she was just a child, inexperienced in the ways of the world. Once she graduated and started working, things would surely change. In his heart, he truly regarded her as a younger sister.
Now, knowing that Luo Yingying’s death would devastate Luo Feifei—after all, they had been husband and wife—Lin Qi was seized by a rare pang of pity. After much contemplation, he called Tang Long.
“Young master,” Tang Long answered immediately.
“How’s it going?” Lin Qi asked.
“We’ve caught him, on the way to you now.”
“Let Luo Yingying go. Only bring Lu Hao here.”
“Yes, sir.”
Tang Long did not question the command. He simply had Luo Yingying tossed out onto the roadside and continued toward Dragon Leap Group with Lu Hao in tow.
Ten minutes later, Tang Long arrived on the rooftop, lugging a sack over his shoulder.
—
Lin Qi still stood by the railing, smoking.
“Young master.” Tang Long approached and flung Lu Hao to the ground.
Lin Qi squatted down and untied the sack, revealing a young man, unconscious.
He dragged Lu Hao out, making as if to throw him off the building.
“Young master…” Tang Long quickly stopped him. “If you do this… you might expose yourself!”
“Can you handle it?” Lin Qi countered.
“…Yes,” Tang Long hesitated, then replied.
Without another word, Lin Qi hurled Lu Hao over the edge.
“The rest is up to you. I have a delivery to make,” Lin Qi said, stooping to pick up a yellow delivery uniform, which he slipped on with practiced ease.
“Yes, sir…” Tang Long bowed slightly, watching Lin Qi’s figure recede into the night. Unable to hold back, he called after him, “Young master, the old master is still in prison. Your enemies are searching everywhere for you. You must keep yourself hidden—don’t let yourself be found!”
