014 Betrayal in the Shadows
Hospital room.
Luo Feifei still lay unconscious on the bed.
Luo’s father recounted Lin Qi’s words from earlier, and both Luo’s mother and Luo Yingying were furious.
“Let him keep dreaming! He’s already hurt us enough, and now he wants to drag Feifei down with him?” Luo Yingying cursed angrily, then turned to look at Luo Feifei lying on the bed. “Honestly, how did my sister fall for his tricks... Apart from his looks, what’s so great about him? He’s nothing but an empty shell!”
“What should we do now...” Both parents wore worried expressions, afraid their younger daughter would fall into another trap.
“It’s fine, leave it to me!” Luo Yingying declared with confidence. “I used to let bygones be bygones, didn’t want to make trouble. Now that he’s dared to target my sister, just watch how I deal with him!”
Luo Yingying quickly contacted a friend.
This friend was Tong Shao, a companion of Lu Hao when he was alive.
After Lu Hao’s death, Luo Yingying grew much closer to Tong Shao.
“You want to teach your ex-husband a lesson? Haha, no problem!” Tong Shao agreed readily when he received Luo Yingying’s call.
As a food deliveryman, Lin Qi was always out and about, making his movements easy to track.
Soon enough, Tong Shao and a few cronies cornered Lin Qi in a nearby alley.
“Kid, looks like you’re out of luck today...” Tong Shao grinned, wearing the classic villain’s expression.
“If you want to rough me up, go ahead,” Lin Qi replied calmly. “But at least let me know why?”
“Simple. Stay away from Luo Feifei from now on!” Tong Shao sneered, raising a club and preparing to strike Lin Qi’s head.
“Wait—” Lin Qi made a “STOP” gesture. “This is a society governed by law. Are you sure you want to be so brazen in broad daylight?”
“Heh, law? Let me tell you, I am the law!” Tong Shao boasted.
“Officer, you heard him. He says he’s the law and wants to assault me in public. Aren’t you going to arrest him?” Lin Qi pointed at Tong Shao, speaking toward the opposite street corner.
Tong Shao and his group turned to look. A female special agent was approaching with a stern expression.
---
Tong Shao and his cronies turned pale and tried to flee.
“Kneel down, hands on your head!” Sun Xiaoyun rushed over, a gun in her hand.
Tong Shao and the others squatted on the ground, looking thoroughly defeated.
Sun Xiaoyun guarded them and called for backup.
Moments later, a patrol car arrived and took Tong Shao and his gang away.
Though they hadn’t started a fight, provoking trouble in public would mean a minimum of three days’ detention.
“How did you know I was across the street?” Sun Xiaoyun asked.
“You’ve been trailing me all afternoon. Aren’t you tired?” Lin Qi retorted.
Sun Xiaoyun was speechless, feeling invisible in front of Lin Qi.
“Stop following me. You won’t find anything,” Lin Qi mounted his electric scooter.
“Whether I find something or not isn’t up to you!” Sun Xiaoyun shouted after him.
For three days straight, Sun Xiaoyun continued to tail Lin Qi relentlessly.
Lin Qi called Tang Long countless times, but the response was always the same: nothing could be done. This woman was of unusual status, had accomplished much, and the bureau’s leaders were powerless against her.
“Just hang in there. She can’t possibly follow you forever,” Tang Long tried to comfort him.
That night, after his shift, Lin Qi suddenly ducked into a bar on his way home.
Aside from official duties, special agents weren’t allowed in such places.
“Let’s see how you keep up now...”
Lin Qi muttered, ordered a few beers, and settled in a corner to watch the dance performance.
Before long, Sun Xiaoyun walked in.
---
She had changed her look: a fiery red wig, exaggerated makeup, a black strapless top, a black skirt above the knees, and a rose tattoo sticker on her fair shoulder.
She acted the part of a regular, ordered a tequila, found a random seat, and swayed to the music while covertly watching Lin Qi.
But her striking appearance was like a sheep among wolves, inevitably attracting attention!
A few unruly young men approached.
“Hey beautiful, care to drink with us?” A tattooed man flashed a sly grin.
“Get lost!” Sun Xiaoyun replied coldly.
“Hey, you bitch, who are you pretending to be in here...” The tattooed man grew angry and reached for her hair.
Sun Xiaoyun swiftly grabbed and twisted his arm.
“Ow, ow—” The tattooed man cried out in pain.
“Scram!” Sun Xiaoyun stood up and kicked him to the floor.
With her skills, subduing a few petty thugs was no challenge!
She had no idea, though, that in that very moment, a young man had slipped something into her drink.
Seeing the plan succeed, the tattooed man wore a sly smile, feigned fear, and fled; the others scattered as well.
“Trash—” Sun Xiaoyun scoffed, raising her tequila and taking a sip.
Soon, she felt dizzy.
Damn, she’d been tricked!
