Luo Feifei continued going to work and returning home as usual, still living in Lin Qi’s old house. The only difference was that, when she came home at night, she could no longer see her familiar brother-in-law.

She had no idea what Lin Qi had gone to do, but she firmly believed that he would return. Day after day, she worked harder and more diligently, hoping to become a better woman—someone worthy of her brother-in-law.

Unfortunately, there were some things that diligence and effort alone could not change.

After Longyue Group was merged into Jinyang Group, Jinyang Group also acquired a new president.

The new president was ruthless. As soon as he took office, he implemented a host of reforms, merging and streamlining countless departments while dismissing a large number of employees.

Luo Feifei was among those who were let go.

It was not that she lacked ability. She was simply too young.

She was barely in her twenties, yet she had already become a deputy manager at a branch company. No matter how one looked at it, she seemed to have risen through the back door.

The new president hated such things most of all. With a single stroke of his pen, he dismissed her.

On the very day she lost her job, Luo Feifei returned to Lin Qi’s house, threw herself onto the bed, and burst into tears.

She was still a young girl, after all. How could she possibly have endured such a setback before?

But as she cried, she suddenly heard someone knocking at the door.

Had her brother-in-law returned?!

Luo Feifei sprang up and hurried over to open it.

The person standing outside was not Lin Qi.

It was Tang Long.

“President Tang?!” Luo Feifei exclaimed in surprise.

“Don’t call me President Tang. I’m no longer a ‘president,’” Tang Long said with a beaming smile.

Luo Feifei had no idea why Tang Long had come. Flustered, she ushered him inside and hurried to serve him tea and water.

Tang Long sat on the sofa in the living room, carefully surveying his surroundings.

Lin Qi had lived here for many years.

“President Tang, what brings you here?” Luo Feifei asked as she handed him a cup of tea.

“I wanted to ask whether you’ve heard anything from Lin Qi lately,” Tang Long said calmly, though inwardly he was in a state of utter panic.

Ever since Lin Qi had said he intended to join Tianji, he had disappeared completely. Tang Long could not see him, nor could he get through to him by phone.

Tang Long had originally thought that even if Lin Qi joined Tianji, the two of them would still be able to remain in close contact. Now, it seemed that was not the case.

He had wanted to find Song Qingzhu, but Song Qingzhu had vanished as well. The new president of Jinyang Group knew nothing, no matter how many questions he asked.

Tang Long had exhausted every means at his disposal, yet he still could not find any trace of Lin Qi. In the end, he had no choice but to ask Luo Feifei.

Luo Feifei did not know why Tang Long was looking for Lin Qi, but she answered honestly, “My brother-in-law told me that he was going somewhere very far away to take care of a few things. Is there something you need, President Tang? When he comes back, I’ll ask him to contact you.”

That answer was exactly what Tang Long had expected.

He sighed and said nothing more, silently sipping his tea.

He hoped that Lin Qi was safe. Otherwise, Tang Long would become a sinner to the Lin family for the rest of his life.

Luo Feifei seemed to sense his worry and said again, “President Tang, my brother-in-law really is fine. He’s very capable. He won’t suffer any losses wherever he goes. Once he’s finished handling things, he’ll come back.”

“Yes, he’s very capable…” Tang Long echoed.

Although Lin Qi had grown up under their protection all these years, no one had ever considered him a useless coward.

Over the years, Lin Qi had lived with remarkable resilience and caution.

Luo Feifei’s words of comfort had clearly helped. Tang Long immediately felt much less burdened. He looked up at her and asked, “You were fired?”

“Mm…” Luo Feifei lowered her head in shame, then could not help squeezing out two more tears.

Tang Long smiled. “The new president of Jinyang Group truly has no eye for talent. He doesn’t even know how to appreciate a girl as wonderful as you. How about this, Feifei? I’m planning to open a new company in Huai River City. If you’re interested, why not come with me? The start-up phase will be a little difficult, but your salary won’t be reduced. And once the company grows, you’ll be one of its founding veterans. You could receive annual dividends of tens of millions. What do you say?”

Luo Feifei’s eyes widened as she stared at Tang Long in disbelief.

Was he… offering her a job?

“What is it? You don’t want to go?” Tang Long continued smiling. “It’s all right if you don’t. It’s perfectly normal for a girl to be attached to home…”

“I want to go!” Luo Feifei said at once. “I attended university in Huai River City, so I know the place very well. I’ll definitely be able to help you a great deal!”

Afraid that Tang Long might change his mind, Luo Feifei immediately began listing her advantages.

Tang Long nodded. “That’s even better. Get yourself ready, and come with me to Huai River City in a few days.”

“All right…” Luo Feifei had just agreed when she suddenly remembered something. She glanced around, her eyes revealing a deep reluctance to part.

This was Lin Qi’s house.

Once she went to Huai River City, she would no longer be able to continue living here.

And if Lin Qi returned, she would not be able to see him right away…

As though he knew what she was thinking, Tang Long said directly, “I believe that when Lin Qi returns, he’ll call you.”

Luo Feifei smiled. “I think so too!”
