Chapter 58 Something Happens
To love someone is to humble yourself to the dust, and then, amidst the dust, blossom into a flower of breathtaking beauty.

When he emerged from the restroom, Xue Zuining was already gone. Su Yi lit a cigarette, leaning against the wall, lost in thought. Suddenly, the glowing tip was crushed out. After a while, he returned to the private room, only to find that the women who had been keeping them company were all gone, including the two special guests.
He didn’t dwell on it. The three men sipped their drinks and chatted. Once business was settled, as the dishes were being served, Lu Huaining poured himself a glass of wine and addressed the other two. “Shengtian is at a critical juncture. Since my father passed, there’s been a restless faction in the boardroom. Naturally, I have to devote more attention to the company, which means I’ll inevitably overlook some matters. If there’s trouble in the future, I hope you’ll forgive me. Let me toast you both first.”
With that, he raised his glass and downed it. Su Yi and Liang Feili followed suit, accepting his gesture.
Su Yi shed his usual playful demeanor, rare seriousness settling over him. “The moment that woman surnamed Mu returned to the country, both your families seemed desperate to see you married tomorrow and having children the day after. The show was so convincing I almost believed it myself. But I’m afraid you can dodge the first of the month, but not the fifteenth.”
Liang Feili gave a soft chuckle. “The more beautiful a woman, the more cunning—she’s certainly persistent. If I’d known she was this obsessed, why did she insist on breaking up in the first place? As I recall, it was her idea.”
Lu Huaining replied indifferently, “I’m the last person to yield to threats. No matter how suitable she is, if my marriage is to be dictated by others, the Mu family is deluding themselves.”
“To harbor a snake is the worst option. If you’re prepared for this—” Before Su Yi could finish, a man in black pushed open the door, his expression grave. He leaned in and whispered a few words in Liang Feili’s ear, instantly transforming the gentle man into a block of ice.
“Courting death!”
“Something’s happened to Miss Xu?” Lu Huaining, noticing the sudden change in the man’s face, quickly guessed the situation. He’d barely risen when the man’s furious voice rang out.
“It’s more than that. I’m afraid Xue Zuining has also prepared a surprise for you!”
---
When the three men reached the Huayu private room, they found chaos—several bedraggled figures sprawled on the floor, one woman drenched, whether by wine or water, the other’s hands stained with blood.
So when Liang Feili strode over to Xu Liunian, she sat there, staring blankly at the fresh blood on her palm. Perhaps even she couldn’t believe she’d just smashed a bottle over the head of a beast who’d tried to violate them. In that moment, the dark emotions buried in her heart had surged, intent on destroying the man. When the shattered glass had sliced her own skin, she’d felt no pain at all.
Liang Feili grasped her wounded wrist, turning it over to inspect it, his thumb gently rubbing her inner wrist. Her skin was pale, the crimson blood shockingly stark against it. He looked up and asked, his tone flat, “Does it hurt?”
Xu Liunian looked up, panic in her eyes, afraid he’d be angry. “It’s not what you think. He tried to hurt me, I… I only hit him because—”
He didn’t answer. Instead, he picked up a wineglass, gripped the rim firmly, and with a twist, snapped off a shard of glass.
Xu Liunian had no idea what he planned to do. Her eyes filled with unease as she watched him. Suddenly, his gentle gaze contracted, and in the next moment, his five fingers closed tightly around her wrist, pressing the shard deep into her flesh. Her face drained of color and contorted in pain. Instinctively, she tried to pry his hand away, a strangled, anguished cry escaping her lips.
Liang Feili showed not a trace of pity. Ignoring her suffering, he tightened his grip, focusing all the pain on her wrist. Xu Liunian felt as if her bones were being shattered. Blood seeped from between his fingers, staining both her wrist and his hand.
Her breathing grew ragged with pain—she’d already lost the use of her right hand; would she now lose her left and become utterly crippled?
“You lunatic!” Xue Zuining, who had been “invited” to wait outside, caught a glimpse of the brutality inside and was so furious her voice broke. She tried to charge in, but the man behind her held her tightly.
“Shut that door!” Lu Huaining ordered coldly, which only made the woman struggle and curse more fiercely. The anger in his eyes was kindled, too—the damp stains on her chest made him feel as if his possession had been tainted by another.
He dragged her toward the stairs. Passing Su Yi, who was returning, he said simply, “Things have gotten complicated. Sorry to trouble you.”
Without waiting for a reply, he hauled her away in a fury.

Back in the private room, when Liang Feili finally let go, Xu Liunian was so wracked with pain she seemed to lose her soul, collapsing to the floor, numb with agony.
Liang Feili casually took a tissue, wiped the blood from his hands with care, then tossed it aside. “Does it hurt? Now you know pain? Let this be a lesson—there are places you should never go!”
Should or shouldn’t. Xu Liunian looked up at his arrogant face, her gaze sorrowful. After a long moment, she said quietly, “The greatest mistake of my life was falling in love with a devil like you.”
Su Yi entered just in time to hear her words—soft as rain, yet crackling with thunder. He was about to worry for her when an unbelievable scene unfolded.
Liang Feili crouched down, scooped Xu Liunian into his arms, and gently apologized, “Did I hurt you just now? Be good and sleep a while—we’re going home.”
Su Yi was left alone, staring at the chaos, dumbfounded. Was this some kind of sorcery?
In the parking lot, Xue Zuining was thrown into the passenger seat, her hands tightly bound with the man’s tie. The car pulled out of the deserted lot and sped into the unknown.
“Lu Huaining, I beg you, just go back and check. I’m really worried something will happen to Miss Xu. Liang Feili will never let her explain—no, you can’t…” The cruelty she’d witnessed haunted Xue Zuining. Though Su Yi had warned her that the feud between Liang Feili and Xu Liunian was their own business, as a woman, seeing Xu Liunian reduced to such humiliation filled her with instinctive empathy. She shuddered to think what Liang Feili would do to her behind closed doors.
