Chapter 15 The Most Ruthless One of All!
After wandering around for half a month, Xue Zuining ultimately followed Elder Su to Yunnan.
Ever since the incident involving the vehicle tailing them, everyone had been on high alert. Unless absolutely necessary, Xue Zuining had to stay quietly inside her room, as that was the safest course of action.
Their residence in Yunnan offered a view right outside the window of the calm and serene Erhai Lake, guarding this magical land like a mother. In the distance, towering mountains gave birth to countless rivers, nurturing the hardworking people of this earth.
When Su Yi arrived here, all he saw was a focused yet languid woman leaning against a rattan sofa, her pen sketching something. Stepping closer, he realized Xue Zuining was copying the distant scenery.
"Not bad."
This brief evaluation made Xue Zuining turn her head abruptly, only to find Su Yi's enlarged face right within her field of vision.
"Why are you here?" Seeing this man, who had been as elusive as a dragon whose tail was never seen throughout this period, suddenly appear before her, Xue Zuining felt a strange sensation stirring deep within her heart. She wanted to ask him for news about that man, but she did not know how to bring it up.
Su Yi raised an eyebrow, took her sketchbook, and flipped through a few pages. Most of the works were focused on landscapes, but when he turned to the last page, his gaze suddenly shifted from the drawing to Xue Zuining's face.
At first, Xue Zuining did not quite understand the man's expression, but soon she recalled some of the content within the drawing and stood up to snatch it back.
Su Yi, however, deliberately raised his hand high, his peach-blossom eyes curving upward, looking exceptionally pleased as if he had caught someone red-handed. "Didn't you say you wanted a clean break? Didn't you say you would never pay attention to that man again? Well then, my fair beauty Xue, care to explain to me why you were secretly drawing his portrait?"
Facing his intentional teasing, Xue Zuining was momentarily left speechless and unable to find a retort.
Watching her at a loss for words, Su Yi was utterly delighted. This woman was simply all words to the contrary. Look at her—she was clearly missing him intensely, yet on the surface, she still put on an air of indifference.
Well then, go ahead and keep your stubborn stance. There were always ways to make her obediently admit the truth.
"Hey, tell me, what is your purpose in coming here just to provoke me? Since when has Lord Su been so overwhelmingly idle?" Xue Zuining sat down, took a sip of water to calm her mood, and looked up at him leisurely. "Besides, if you're here to act as a lobbyist, you'd better watch out."
"I need to watch out?"
"That's right. Watch out lest Grandfather strips the skin and pulls the tendons off you, an obedient grandson who dares to disobey imperial decrees."
"Heh, probably not. You can rest easy on that. As for me, I'm not here to waste my breath." Fully prepared and unhurried, Su Yi produced a red invitation card. "In a few days, it's Lu Huaining's wedding. I'm just here to ask whether the Old Master will be attending as well. After all, the friendship between the two families stands right there; we can't afford to be discourteous."
"A wedding? Lu Huaining is getting married?" Xue Zuining bristled like an agitated cat.
"You didn't know?" Su Yi crossed his arms and looked at her. "He proposed in America a week ago. The bride-to-be is said to be Ning Caier. You've met her before, you know."
Xue Zuining frowned, ignored him, and headed straight for the door.
Su Yi quickly blocked her way. "Hey, where are you going? With the man finally stepping into the halls of matrimony, you surely aren't planning to crash the wedding and snatch the groom, are you?"
"I wouldn't go that far." Xue Zuining glanced at him and suddenly smiled. "I'm just going to strip his skin off, that's all."
