Chapter 12 Dishonest!!
After wandering around for half a month, Xue Zuining ultimately followed Elder Su to Yunnan.
Ever since the incident involving the car tailing them, everyone had been on high alert. Unless absolutely necessary, Xue Zuining had to stay quietly inside her room, which was the safest option.
Their residence in Yunnan opened its windows to the calm and serene Erhai Lake, which guarded this magical land like a mother. In the distance, towering mountains nurtured countless rivers, sustaining the hardworking people of this earth.
When Su Yi arrived, he only saw a focused yet lazy woman leaning against a rattan sofa, her pen sketching something. Stepping closer, he realized she was copying the distant scenery.
"Not bad."
This brief evaluation made Xue Zuining turn her head abruptly, only to find Su Yi's enlarged face right within her field of vision.
"Why are you here?" Seeing this man, who had been as elusive as a dragon whose tail is seen but never its head, suddenly appear before her, Xue Zuining felt a strange sensation deep in her heart. She wanted to ask him for news about that man, but she did not know how to bring it up.
Su Yi raised an eyebrow, took her sketchbook, and flipped through a few pages. Most of the works focused on scenery, but when he turned to the last page, his gaze shifted instantly from the drawing to Xue Zuining's face.
At first, Xue Zuining did not understand the man's look, but soon she remembered some of the contents within the drawing and stood up to snatch it back.
Su Yi, however, deliberately raised his hand higher, his peach-blossom eyes lifting as if he were immensely proud of having caught someone in the act. "Didn't you say you wanted a clean break? Didn't you say you would never pay attention to that man again? Well then, my beautiful Xue, care to explain why you were secretly drawing portraits of him?"
Faced with his deliberate teasing, Xue Zuining was momentarily at a loss for words to retort.
Seeing her lost for words, Su Yi was utterly delighted. This woman was simply all words to the contrary. Look at her—clearly missing him intensely, yet deliberately putting on an indifferent facade on the outside.
Fine, go ahead and be stubbornly defiant; there were always ways to make her obediently admit it.
"Hey, tell me, what is your purpose in coming here to provoke me? Since when did Lord Su have so much idle time on his hands?" Xue Zuining sat down, took a sip of water to calm her nerves, and looked up at him leisurely. "Besides, if you're here to act as a lobbyist, you'd better watch out."
"I need to watch out?"
"That's right. Watch out that Grandpa doesn't skin and debone a good older brother like you who dares to disobey imperial edicts."
"Hehe, I doubt that. You can rest easy. As for me, I'm not here to waste my breath." Su Yi, completely composed and unfazed, calmly produced a red invitation card. "In a few days, it's Lu Huaining's wedding. I'm just here to ask if the old man will be attending too. After all, the friendship between our two families is right there; we can't afford to be discourteous."
"A wedding? Lu Huaining is getting married?" Xue Zuining bristled like an agitated cat.
"You didn't know?" Su Yi crossed his arms and looked at her. "He proposed in America a week ago. The bride is supposedly Ning Caier—you've met her before."
Xue Zuining frowned, ignoring him entirely as she headed straight for the door.
Su Yi quickly blocked her path. "Hey, where are you going? The man is finally stepping into the grand palace of marriage; you're not going to go steal the groom, are you?"
"That's out of the question." Xue Zuining glanced at him and suddenly smiled. "I'm just going to skin him alive, that's all."
