Chapter 150: Catching Another Sneak Photographer
Zhou Miao looked confused. "Since you've already gotten your driver's license, why don't you buy a car? Just name whichever one you like, and I'll buy it for you."
Hu San still shook her head. "No, thank you. I don't want to spend your money before we get married, just in case we break up later and I can't pay you back. Besides, I'm still in school, so I don't need a car right now."
Zhou Miao gave a wry smile. "Do you have that little confidence in me? Even in the worst-case scenario, supposing we do break up in the future, do you really think I'm the kind of person who would make you pay me back?"
"I know you aren't, but I am. If we ever break up, I'll have to return every single penny you spent on me."
Zhao Li quietly sipped her coffee. It was clearly just plain water, so why did she suddenly feel so full?
...
Hu San looked soft and delicate, but she was actually a young woman with a very strong mind. Zhou Miao exhausted his arguments and still couldn't persuade her, so he simply gave up and let her be.
The three of them left the cafe and headed to a luxury car dealership recommended by Zuo Qiu. Although they had arrived by taxi, and both Zhou Miao and Zhao Li were fully disguised with their faces obscured, the female sales representatives at the dealership did not dare to neglect them in the slightest—no ordinary person dared to walk through those front doors.
"Welcome to Tianqi Auto. What kind of cars are you looking to see today?" a saleswoman greeted them.
"Just browsing. Which ones here are available for immediate delivery?" Zhou Miao asked.
"Aside from those few models by the window on the north side of the showroom, all the others are in stock. What is your budget, sir? I can give you some recommendations."
Zhou Miao glanced around the showroom and said casually, "No budget. Just take us on a tour first."
Hearing this, the saleswoman instantly realized she had encountered a major whale. Her attitude grew even warmer as she bowed and said, "Very well, please follow me, the three of you."
Zhou Miao walked in front, chatting casually with the saleswoman, while Zhao Li watched the two of them whispering back and forth. Leaning in close, Zhao Li murmured, "San San, do you want to bet? If the two of us hadn't come along today, this woman would definitely have slipped him her phone number."
Hu San said unconcernedly, "That's completely normal. Zhou Miao faces temptations all the time. You have no idea—so many female celebrities have privately sent him all sorts of suggestive photos."
Zhao Li's eyes lit up instantly, her desire for gossip overflowing, "Oh my god! Who?"
Zhou Miao looked speechlessly at the two chatterboxes. "What are you two talking about? Can we look at the cars first, please?"
Zhou Miao patted a gray sports car nearby. "How about this one? Isn't it super cool?"
The two girls temporarily shelved their gossip, walked over, and began inspecting it closely.
Hu San said with a hint of concern, "It's handsome, but isn't it a bit too high-profile? I'm afraid people might say you're getting full of yourself."
Zhao Li didn't feel that way at all. "It's fine. In our line of work, buying a sports car is totally normal. Besides, we're talking about him—people would find it stranger if he didn't buy a sports car."
Hu San thought about it and decided she made sense, so she dropped the subject. Meanwhile, the saleswoman was burning with curiosity, wondering: *Their line of work? What line of work is that?*
"What kind of car is this? How much is it?" Hu San asked.
"This is a McLaren 720S. The storm-gray finish comes out to around 3.8 million on the road," the saleswoman said while closely observing their expressions.
However, apart from Hu San shaking her head slightly, the other two didn't even blink, as if they had just heard 380 yuan instead of 3.8 million.
After walking around and feeling that this was the only one that caught his eye, Zhou Miao pulled out a card. "We'll take this one."
Just like that, payment settled! The saleswoman suppressed her excitement as she took the bank card. "Sir, could you please also give me your ID? I'll go take care of the paperwork for you."
Upon receiving Zhou Miao's ID and seeing the photo and name on it, the saleswoman's eyes widened instantly, and she instinctively covered her mouth.
"M-Mr. Zhou? I'm a fan of yours!" she said excitedly, never dreaming she would get to interact with Zhou Miao this closely in her lifetime.
Zhou Miao made a shushing gesture. There were other customers in the showroom looking at cars, and he didn't want to attract attention.
As the saleswoman went inside to process the paperwork, Zhou Miao asked Zhao Li, "See anything you like?"
Zhao Li looked around and eventually walked toward a white Maserati. Zhou Miao shook his head helplessly; indeed, most girls simply couldn't escape the allure of a Maserati.
They had a simple lunch at noon, and in the afternoon, they went to the dealership's private track to learn how to drive a sports car. As a novice who had just gotten her license, jumping straight into a sports car without training was a recipe for trouble.
After getting familiar with the basic controls, Zhou Miao gave up his seat to Hu San so she could practice too. It would come in handy eventually.
Standing outside the track, Zhou Miao couldn't help smiling as he watched Hu San drive at a snail's pace.
Yet at that very moment, Zhou Miao's brow suddenly furrowed. On the distant wall directly in front of him, a man whose face was obscured was crouching on top of the wall, aiming a long-lens camera right at him.
The man seemed to notice through his lens that Zhou Miao was looking at him. He raised his head, a smile playing on his face, and gave Zhou Miao a thumbs-up.
Unfazed, Zhou Miao simply stared back at him in silence.
Immediately afterward, the man turned his thumb downward, making an extremely provocative gesture.
Courtesy demands reciprocity, so Zhou Miao returned the favor with a long, slender middle finger.
Zhao Li walked up to him and asked, "Who's that?"
"Probably a paparazzi. Judging by the look of it, he's probably been following me since this morning."
Zhou Miao was already accustomed to being stalked by paparazzi, but today's guy seemed a bit different. He had truly never seen such an arrogant tabloid photographer.
Even just looking from afar, Zhao Li felt a bit creeped out; that guy didn't seem quite right in the head.
"You'd better be careful. Make sure you bring bodyguards whenever you go out from now on."
Before Zhou Miao could reply, his phone suddenly rang, but after two rings, it hung up on its own.
Seeing the caller ID, Zhou Miao was about to call back when the sports car Hu San was driving on the track suddenly surged forward at high speed, followed by a harsh screech of brakes, and stalled halfway down the track.
Seeing this, Zhou Miao and Zhao Li hurried over. Hu San stumbled out of the car, looking shaken with a pale face as she clutched her chest.
"That scared me to death! This car is way too fast."
The accompanying instructor was also thoroughly shaken. This wasn't a driving school training car; there were no passenger-side brakes. If Hu San had panicked and failed to brake in time just now, the consequences would have been unimaginable.
Seeing this, Zhou Miao patted her head and said, "I think you'd better give up driving. Wherever you want to go, I'll drive you."
Hu San protested, unconvinced, "Then didn't I take my driver's license test for nothing?"
"How could it be for nothing? You can save it to help me clear my penalty points," Zhou Miao said righteously.
The instructor touched his nose. Would someone who could afford a McLaren even care about a few penalty points?
As the two of them were talking, Zhao Li glanced back, only to find that the strange man had already vanished.
