Chapter Fifteen
After leaving the Peach Blossom Inn, Luo Fancheng brought Chen Xingxin to Shenghua Hospital, where he worked.
Because of Luo Fancheng’s deeds over the past two days, he had become the hospital’s miracle worker. There was no other reason—just being the disciple of Director Liu Tianji of the emergency department was enough to make him the center of attention. Moreover, Luo Fancheng had brought a dying man back to life with nothing but his massage technique, single-handedly forced out two department heads, and become a director himself in his twenties. Such feats for someone so young were nothing short of miraculous.
All along the way, doctors greeted him, their expressions growing more curious as they noticed the woman Luo Fancheng was pushing in the wheelchair.
People whispered in awe—who was the woman Luo Fancheng was pushing? How could she be so stunningly beautiful?
She looked like a celebrity, with a face that could belong on the silver screen and a figure to match.
What a pity about her legs, though.
Luo Fancheng ignored the curious gazes and hurried Chen Xingxin toward his office.
“Director Luo?” Chen Xingxin looked at him in confusion.
Luo Fancheng smiled faintly and explained, “While I was working as a security guard here, I happened to pick up a mentor—the emergency department director, Liu Tianji. I studied under him for a while, and somehow, I ended up as a department head myself.”
Chen Xingxin was shocked. She had no idea Luo Fancheng had hidden so much; she’d thought he was still a security guard. Her face betrayed a touch of displeasure. “So, now that you’re a director, your salary must be quite substantial, right?” she said, stretching out her hand.
Chen Xingxin controlled the family finances. In fact, the Chen family relied solely on her income from streaming and Luo Fancheng’s wages as a security guard. The rest of the family simply waited for her to hand out money every month.
Reluctantly, Luo Fancheng fished out the salary card Zhao De had given him and placed it in her hand. “Leave me a little. That’s all there is.”
Chen Xingxin smiled. “Since you’re being so obedient, I’ll treat you to a lollipop tonight.”
With that, Luo Fancheng wheeled her into his office.
Inside, He Jing was still sorting through paperwork. Luo Fancheng was the type of department head who only knew how to heal and save lives, clueless about paperwork—He Jing handled all of that.
When she saw Luo Fancheng enter, He Jing immediately stood up. “Teacher Luo, you’re here.”
Luo Fancheng nodded. “This is your teacher’s wife. I’m going to treat her leg today. Go prepare an anesthetic, a medical insurance form, and a set of silver needles.”
“Hello, Teacher’s wife. I’m He Jing—the disciple Master accepted just two days ago.” After a brief introduction the night before, Chen Xingxin smiled and nodded, then went to prepare the supplies.
A moment later, Chen Xingxin looked at Luo Fancheng, puzzled. “You’re really going to treat my leg?”
Luo Fancheng nodded, still smiling.
“It can’t be cured. There’s no need. I already know my leg is beyond saving,” Chen Xingxin said, her expression tinged with despair.
Luo Fancheng crouched before her, gazing into her eyes. “Do you believe in me?”
She hesitated, then nodded. “I do.”
Luo Fancheng reached out to gently pat her head. “You hesitated. You don’t really believe.”
“You’re so childish,” Chen Xingxin retorted.
Soon, He Jing returned with everything Luo Fancheng had requested.
After a moment’s thought, Luo Fancheng decided not to let He Jing stay and observe—this was, after all, a treatment for his own wife, and he would need to use techniques beyond the reach of ordinary people.
After signaling He Jing to leave, Luo Fancheng turned to Chen Xingxin. “Are you ready?”
She nodded.
He took the anesthetic, adjusted the dosage, and waved it before her eyes. Chen Xingxin quickly slipped into unconsciousness.
As soon as she was asleep, Luo Fancheng began examining her injured leg. It was absurd that, after two years of marriage, he had never even checked or touched her wounded leg.
He soon found the problem: the car accident had left her with a fractured leg bone, and a piece of the bone was missing.
With current medical technology, there was no way to restore it except by amputation and installing a prosthesis. Fortunately, the Chen family hadn’t been wealthy at the time, so they’d only managed a simple treatment.
Identifying the site of the fracture, Luo Fancheng firmly set the bone back in place. Then, dozens of silver needles seemed to come alive, leaping into the air and floating before him.
Each time he pointed with his finger, a silver needle would fly with perfect accuracy into one of Chen Xingxin’s acupuncture points. If anyone else had witnessed this, they would have thought him a monster.
Soon, all one hundred and eight silver needles were embedded in their exact positions. With a casual wave, the needles began to tremble in unison.
This technique was called the Trembling Needle, which stimulated the meridians and bone marrow—a process known as cleansing the tendons and washing the marrow.
As long as Luo Fancheng could reactivate the bones and sinews of her leg, the missing piece of bone would regenerate, and her leg would be healed.
After several minutes, the needles ceased their trembling. Luo Fancheng waved his hand again, and all the needles returned to their original places.
“A simple dressing and immobilization should suffice,” he murmured.
Just as he finished bandaging her leg, Chen Xingxin awoke.
“How do you feel?” Luo Fancheng asked.
She moved her injured leg slightly, astonishment lighting her features. “It doesn’t hurt at all!”
“Do you want me to help you try walking?” Luo Fancheng offered.
She nodded, delighted.
Leaning on Luo Fancheng, she began to walk slowly. The missing bone had not yet regenerated, and after so many years without walking, she was unsteady.
“Don’t worry,” Luo Fancheng reassured her. “A few more months of recovery and you’ll be fine.”
Chen Xingxin nodded in his arms.
Before leaving, Luo Fancheng reminded her not to mention to the family that he was a doctor. Though puzzled, she agreed.
They left the hospital and returned home together.
By then, Chen Kangjian and Wu Mei were both at home.
As soon as they entered, they heard Wu Mei sobbing in the living room, her voice filled with accusation: “Chen Kangjian, you heartless man, how could you have an affair after all these years of marriage? Now you even want a divorce!”
Chen Xingxin wheeled herself over to comfort her mother. “Mom, that was a year ago. It’s all in the past now. Don’t cry.”
“But I just can’t get over it. I never imagined he could be this kind of person, this faithless man,” Wu Mei sobbed, clinging to her daughter.
After a few moments, Wu Mei stopped crying and lifted her head to look at Chen Xingxin. “Daughter, why don’t we both get divorced and live together from now on?”
