Chapter 108: The Selection Tournament Concludes
Liu Feng gazed at the towering youth he had just knocked off the arena, a trace of regret flickering across his face. Had fate not brought them together, this young man might have advanced much farther.
“Bang! Bang! Bang!”
Three consecutive thunderous sounds caught Liu Feng’s attention. Turning around, he saw a fierce-looking youth swiftly strike, sending three opponents tumbling off the arena floor.
The youth’s sharp gaze then fixed on Liu Feng, radiating a powerful fighting spirit.
“This youth is formidable—I'm afraid even I wouldn’t be his match. Liu Feng has finally met a true adversary,” Zhao Bochao remarked solemnly as he watched the fierce youth.
“How can you tell? I don’t see anything special about him,” Zhao Jun said, puzzled.
“Just watch closely; you’ll soon witness his strength,” Zhao Bochao replied gravely, his eyes never leaving Liu Feng and the fierce youth.
Suddenly, the fierce youth moved. In a blur, he appeared before Liu Feng and unleashed a sweeping kick aimed at Liu Feng’s legs.
Liu Feng lightly tapped the ground with his toes and leapt, narrowly evading the strike. Mid-air, he spun like a whirlwind, his legs spinning like windmills as they aimed at the youth’s head.
The fierce youth, anticipating the attack, raised both fists and slammed upward. A violent pillar of force shot skyward, crashing into Liu Feng’s legs.
“Boom!”
The collision of legs and fists erupted with a deafening roar, like thunder rolling across the sky. The residual force surged outward like an erupting volcano, pushing everything around.
Nearby combatants, caught off guard, were violently repelled by the shockwave. Five unlucky youths were blasted off the arena floor entirely.
“Impressive. You truly are a worthy opponent,” the fierce youth said, his battle spirit soaring as he saw Liu Feng withstand his attack unharmed.
Striding forward with long strides, he charged at Liu Feng, fists pounding simultaneously. Two savage waves of fist energy converged, forming a massive white punch shadow like a small mountain, rapidly descending toward Liu Feng’s head.
Liu Feng’s expression grew serious facing the ferocious assault. Clenching his fists, a dazzling golden light surged forth, enveloping his body. An overwhelming aura radiated from him.
He swung his fist forward, releasing a crushing force that collided like thunder against the mountainous white fist shadow.
The two collided with a cataclysmic crack akin to a bolt of lightning splitting a clear sky.
The ensuing shockwaves crashed outward like raging waves, violently striking in every direction. Spectators tens of meters away coughed up blood and were forced back, several even falling off the arena floor.
Both Liu Feng and the fierce youth staggered backward, blood trickling from the corners of their mouths.
“This youth is unbelievably strong—Liu Feng is even injured,” Zhao Jun exclaimed, shock evident on his face.
“Yes, he’s truly powerful. I reckon he’ll place quite well in this competition,” Zhao Bochao said earnestly.
As Zhao Jun and Zhao Bochao spoke, the arena’s atmosphere shifted.
The fierce youth fixed his gaze on Liu Feng and suddenly spoke, “This is not the time for our true battle. We’ll settle this in the official match.”
With that, he ceased engaging Liu Feng and instead turned to attack others on the arena floor.
Liu Feng’s eyes gleamed with sharp light. He shifted his stance and attacked nearby opponents.
Moments later, only ten remained on the arena—the selection round for their group had ended.
Liu Feng quickly jumped down, registered his name at the administration desk, then approached Zhao Jun and Zhao Bochao.
“Liu Feng, why did that fierce youth stop fighting you in the end?” Zhao Jun asked, puzzled.
“It’s a good thing you didn’t press on to the bitter end. Otherwise, both of you might have been seriously injured,” Zhao Bochao said with relief.
Liu Feng pondered the youth’s final words. “He’s probably practicing a martial technique that prevents him from unleashing his full power until the decisive moment. That’s why he refrained from a final showdown.”
“I see. That explains why he didn’t fight to the death,” Zhao Jun nodded in understanding.
Zhao Bochao also nodded thoughtfully at Liu Feng’s analysis.
By now, afternoon had fallen. The three left the arena and found a place to enjoy a hearty meal.
As they sat, they overheard patrons discussing excitedly.
“Do you think our nation’s young talents can place in the top three this time?”
“Of course. Su Yu from Zhengyun Academy, Yang Ping from Kaishan Sect, Su Bo from Zhantu Gate, Feng Zhuo from the Flame Sect—all geniuses with the strength to contend for the top ten.”
“Not to mention the even stronger Sun Zhen from Qianyuan Sect and Zhao Yu from Taiyue Sect. Both have reached the fifth level of the Yin-Yang realm, with some experts even at the sixth.”
“But we mustn’t underestimate other countries—they surely have extraordinary talents as well.”
“In any case, this competition will surely astonish many.”
Listening to their conversation, the three were somewhat stunned. They hadn’t expected so many prodigies to gather near Tian City.
“I thought with my second-level Yin-Yang cultivation, I could enter the ‘Potential Heroes List.’ But hearing this, I doubt I’ll even make the top hundred,” Zhao Jun lamented.
Zhao Bochao chuckled wryly. “You’re thinking too simply. Thousands from four nations are competing, all gifted. Even at my cultivation, I doubt I’d crack the top hundred.”
Liu Feng’s expression remained calm. “We just need to show our true strength and fight with all our might. Even if we lose, there’ll be no regrets.”
“Right. That’s the right mindset,” Zhao Jun said, as if a weight had lifted.
After their meal, the three returned to the arena. The selection rounds continued until nightfall, when they finally paused.
The contests went on the next two days, continuing through the fifth day, when the selection rounds officially concluded.
Throughout, Liu Feng and his companions observed numerous formidable fighters, many who could even challenge Liu Feng himself.
“The selection rounds are finally over. Let’s get a good rest. Tomorrow, the real challenge begins,” Zhao Jun sighed.
