The Dragon and the Boy Shwey Moonlight 2438 words 2026-03-05 09:09:30

Gasping for breath, Gou Ge was suddenly surrounded from behind by several puppet-like monsters. They had gray hair, red eyes, purple clothes, and several white threads dangling from their backs.

Spider-thread puppets.

"Ahhh!"

Gou Ge was so terrified that he fell hard to the ground.

"Wood Binding!"

At the last possible moment, he was seized by a vine and yanked back.

Chengzi had cast a wood-element spell.

"Charge!"

The others swarmed forward and attacked the spider-thread puppets.

"Gou Ge? What are you doing here?" Mo Xing did not rush after them. He judged that the others could handle the puppets, and what interested him more was how Gou Ge was still alive. "That night, you led some of your senior brothers to chase the Gale Knight..." Mo Xing gripped his shoulder and stared into his gaunt face. "Why did they all die, and you're still alive?"

"What's going on? Is he from your school?" Chengzi frowned. She truly had no idea what had happened before.

Gou Ge panted hard, his face deathly pale. Trembling, he managed to say, "Mo Xing... let me catch my breath first. Wait a bit, and I'll... I'll explain!"

...

Fifteen minutes later.

The spider-thread puppets had all been dealt with, and everyone gathered around Gou Ge to listen as he finally told them what had happened to him over this period of time.

Nine days ago, when the divine ship of the Sacred Sky Royal Academy arrived at Dragonfang Island's Dragon Chant Gorge, the alien dragonfolk invasion at dawn had already been repelled. Gou Ge had then led several people in pursuit of the Gale Knight, only to fall into the enemy's trap. Several of them were killed on the spot, and Gou Ge survived only by pretending to be dead.

Afterward, the bodies were transported in batches. Gou Ge was loaded onto a transport vehicle and, quite smoothly, taken all the way into Twin Moon Dragon City.

At first, Gou Ge had wanted to slip away in secret somewhere along the way, but the other side had overwhelming numbers; there was simply nothing he could do. He had no choice but to bide his time and wait for the right moment to escape.

Unexpectedly, he had hidden himself for so long that, just as he was preparing to run, a pack of spider-thread puppets had chased him all the way here. Then he ran into Mo Xing and the others.

"Hold on, I have a question." Mo Xing frowned. "All this time, what did you eat?"

"Ah, to tell the truth, it's rather shameful." Gou Ge shook his head. "To stay alive, whenever the alien dragonfolk were resting at night, I would sneak in and steal whatever food they had left behind. Among it was even..."

"Enough, don't describe it." Someone cut him off. What came next was truly disgusting, and everyone wore expressions that defied description.

"What is at the end of the tunnel?" Chengzi asked. "Where you just ran out from."

"It's a shrine!" Gou Ge said. "The alien dragonfolk want to use the bones left over from their food as an offering to the faith they believe in—the Ghost Wail King!"

"A bone-and-flesh sacrifice to the heavens..." Chengzi frowned.

"That part is secondary," Gou Ge said, shaking his head. "What matters is that their shrine is also holding the legendary ghost weapon—the Ghost Wail, Wandering Blade!"

"What!?"

Mo Xing was stunned. He remembered the famous scene at the underground sewer casino auction, where those wanted criminals fought over that blade. Mr. Shen had been there too. Though the ending had not been very pleasant, Mo Xing himself had grown a great deal from that operation.

"Yes, that invisible blade!" Gou Ge said. "Its blade is wreathed in countless souls. Just looking at it is enough to chill the blood!"

"From what I've learned these past two days, the alien dragonfolk are definitely plotting something huge," Gou Ge said indignantly. "We have to stop them!"

"You know the way?" Mo Xing asked.

"Of course I do!" Gou Ge nodded. "I'll take you there now!"

"Wait, we don't know their exact strength." Chengzi shook her head. "Charging in blindly wouldn't be wise."

"Miss, don't worry." Gou Ge thumped his chest. "From what I've observed these past two days, this is when their defenses are at their weakest. Twenty or thirty people would be more than enough to handle them. I guarantee it!"

"Really?" Mo Xing asked suspiciously. "You're not trying to set us up, are you?"

"Of course it's real!" Gou Ge said excitedly. "If I were going to screw someone over, it wouldn't be you! You're my junior brother, you have to trust me!"

"Now that you say that, I trust you even less." Mo Xing shot him a glance, remembering several times before when Gou Ge had sold out his own teammates.

"Dammit! Believe me or don't!" Gou Ge shouted. "Those alien dragonfolk are doing evil things, and you people are just going to sit there and do nothing? You're going to let it all happen?"

"Fine, fine, just lead the way already!" someone called out.

"Yeah, yeah, just trust him!" another chimed in.

"Your trust doesn't matter!" Gou Ge shrugged and looked toward Mo Xing and Chengzi. "At the very least, doesn't it take unanimous agreement before you can call it trust?"

"..."

Chengzi hesitated. "You lead the way."

"Mm, we'll trust you for now." Mo Xing nodded as well, thinking that with so many people here, Gou Ge wouldn't dare pull any tricks by himself.

"That's better." Gou Ge turned and headed toward the end of the tunnel, with the others following behind him.

...

They walked for more than ten minutes, passing through the long tunnel until they reached a vast chamber. The light was just as dim, yet now it carried a strange religious solemnity.

They were currently at the highest point of the chamber. Looking down, they saw a massive altar, beside which stood countless black crosses, each bearing corpses in all manner of grotesque poses. From the distance came the murmur of strange incantations. A few alien dragonfolk walked across the altar carrying blue torches, as though performing some sort of ritual. A murderous air hung in the space.

The horrifying scene raised gooseflesh all over everyone.

"See? I told you I wasn't lying!" Gou Ge said with a shrug.

"Mm..." Mo Xing paused. He could feel a fierce killing intent radiating from the altar, leaving him deeply unsettled. That was... the power emanating from the Ghost Wail, Wandering Blade?

"Mo Xing... I keep feeling like something isn't right." Chengzi suddenly said. "It feels like everyone's overlooked something..."

"Oh? So this little lady has so many questions?" Gou Ge, standing at the front, turned around with an extremely eerie smile on his face.

"Don't worry. Once you're dead, you won't have so many questions anymore."
