The earth beneath Mo Xing’s feet collapsed in an instant, and the whole stretch of ground sank downward.

“Use a flight skill, now!” someone shouted.

“Damn it, I never learned one!” Mo Xing cried. He was only at the Greenwood rank; he had not yet unlocked the skill point for Dragon God’s Wings.

At that very moment, a hand seized him and pulled him upward. Mo Xing looked up and saw Orange hovering in midair, her Blazing Wings unfurled. The pair of wings glowed a captivating crimson, brilliant and radiant.

“Mo Xing...” Orange paused.

“Hm? What is it?” Mo Xing asked.

“You seem a little heavy,” Orange added.

“Huh? No way...” Mo Xing said awkwardly. After all, she was a girl; dragging him through the air was bound to be tiring.

“It’s fine. I’ll add a wind element to you,” Orange said as she traced a small ring of green light in the air with her staff, Starry Firmament.

The ring grew larger, slipped around Mo Xing’s waist, and at once his whole body floated in midair.

“This... this is a swim ring!” Mo Xing exclaimed. Looking at the wind element circling his waist, it really did resemble one.

“This move is called Wind Swim Ring. A self-created skill.” Orange nodded.

“My god... you’ve even created your own skill.” Mo Xing stared in amazement. “By the way, Orange, how many elements have you mastered now?”

“Not too many, not too few. Just seven,” Orange replied.

“What? Seven elements?” Mo Xing sucked in a cold breath. What kind of concept was that? The Shadowdance Spell King had mastered eight elements, and Orange, still so young, had already grasped seven. Her future was limitless—glory was practically within reach.

“It’s nothing. I can’t claim true mastery yet.” Orange lowered her gaze toward the enormous pit below. “What matters most right now is finding out why the ground suddenly caved in...”

“Mm...”

Mo Xing looked down as well. The earth was still trembling, and the vast sinkhole was growing larger and larger. From where he was, it looked to be at least a hundred meters deep.

“Is there another layer of space beneath it...?” Mo Xing said.

“I’m afraid it’s more than that.” Orange shook her head.

“Should we go down?” Mo Xing suggested. “Senior Gadi might be down there.”

Orange hesitated. “The situation below is unknown. Going straight down would be unwise.”

“But there’s nowhere around here to land...” Mo Xing glanced in every direction, watching building after building sink into the earth. “We can’t just keep flying like this. It drains too much stamina and focus.”

Orange paused, then said, “Mo Xing, contact your classmates again. See how far they’ve gotten.”

“Mm... all right.”

Mo Xing slid his finger over the Titan Ring, projecting a blue-white screen, then tapped the video call function and connected to Wu Dance.

“Hello? Mo Xing?” Wu Dance answered, his familiar face appearing on the screen once more. The background seemed to be a cave, littered with all sorts of bizarre-shaped rocks.

“What’s going on over there?” Mo Xing asked.

“We had a cave-in too,” Wu Dance said.

“What? You had one too?” Mo Xing exclaimed, turning to glance at Orange beside him.

“Yeah. Half an hour ago, someone smashed a divine statue, and half a minute later the ground started shaking.” Wu Dance let out a sigh.

“Huh?” Mo Xing frowned. It seemed the sculpture he had broken earlier really was connected to the quake that followed.

“Do you know who did it?” Wu Dance darted a furtive glance to the side, then lowered his voice. “Chu Fengyun.”

“Oh...” Mo Xing said in surprise. “Weren’t all the academies supposed to be acting separately? How did you all end up together?”

“It’s a long story...” Wu Dance shook his head. “In any case, our original formations were all scattered. Everyone is heading toward the true Twin Moon Dragon City.”

“The space beneath the collapse?” Mo Xing asked.

“That’s right. You have to go downward to reach the real Twin Moon Dragon City.” Wu Dance glanced around. “All right, no more talking. Something’s come up here—I need to deal with it.”

As soon as he finished speaking, the video call abruptly ended.

“Uh...?” Mo Xing was utterly baffled. Since when had Wu Dance become like some cryptic old adventurer from a mystery chronicle, all secretive and elusive?

“So... what do we do next?” Mo Xing turned back and asked.

“Mm... we go down,” Orange said after a pause. “The quake has more or less stopped.”

...

Mo Xing followed the Red Moon Academy battalion into the enormous sinkhole left by the collapse, and sure enough, there really was another layer of space below.

It was a broad passageway. On both sides of the walls stood giant dragon statues, their eyes glowing with green light. Beside them burned torches wreathed in green flames. At the entrance rose two massive pillars, upon which dead bodies had been chained. He had no idea what exactly they were, but the sight was undeniably sinister.

“So... so scary!” two girls in the group whispered, fear thick in their voices.

“It’s all right. Senior will protect you!” a burly man thumped his chest.

“Mhm!” The two girls nodded eagerly.

Clang—

Suddenly, from ahead came the sound of something toppling over, followed by a gust of wind sweeping through.

“A ghost!” The same burly man instantly shrank aside, trembling all over, utterly unlike his bold promise from moments ago. A few others stifled laughter.

“Shh!” Orange raised a hand for silence, then cast an invisibility spell. Everyone’s colors blended into the shadows, and in a low voice she said, “Someone’s up ahead.”

Mo Xing looked forward and saw a figure running down the tunnel toward them. He was covered in wounds, dusty and disheveled, in a miserable state.

It was Gou Ge.

Volume One is about to come to an end.

Today’s update reaches Chapter 90.

There are only ten thousand words left before the first volume, The First Awakening of the Dragon Soul, comes to a close. The story will soon enter preparation for Volume Two, When the Stars Bloom. During that time, I will take a break, adjust my pace, and study more writing knowledge and techniques, then return when the time is right.
