“Awooo—!”
Shi Yan hurriedly activated Shadow Step, flashing to the side just in time to evade disaster, then fired two shots that thudded into the giant wolf’s thick fur.
“How did this thing get here so fast?” Mo Xing swung his blade, unleashing a flurry of icy shards at the beast. In just two seconds, it had leapt up to them!
Was this thing a flea?!
“It’s got insane jumping power! That hide is thick too! Otherwise, the three of us wouldn’t have run!”
Xiao Feng activated Dragon’s Radiance, bracing in a battle stance, then offered an explanation:
“Of course, I, Xiao Feng, am always ready for a fight to the end! But that grumpy old man insisted we retreat!”
“Awooo—!”
The irate giant wolf roared, swiping a massive paw at Xiao Feng. Thankfully, Xiao Feng summoned a gust of wind, darting five meters back—barely dodging the razor-sharp claws.
“Stay alert!” Li Xiangcao called, drawing her twin swords.
“Wow! It’s actually the Wolfblade King! The legends are true!” Dong Jun, now fully alert, stared in amazement.
“Dong Jun, get behind me!” Zero Silence summoned the Elderwood, his loyal beast, and took up a defensive stance with his twin swords in front of Dong Jun.
The six of them fanned out, each on guard, eyes fixed on the Wolfblade King.
“Awooo—!”
The Wolfblade King lunged toward Zero Silence and Dong Jun, its monstrous instincts sensing they were the weakest—easy prey to kill first!
“Careful!”
Mo Xing unleashed Frostblade, hoping to block the charge, but the beast was simply too massive, trampling the ice spikes as if they were grass!
And with its wild leaping power, it vaulted right over the spikes and bore down on Zero Silence and Dong Jun.
“Double Burst Shot!”
Shi Yan fired two black-and-white bullets into the Wolfblade King’s chest. But its hide was so tough the attack barely fazed it.
“Elderwood!”
Zero Silence and his summoned beast simultaneously cast Woodland Shelter, layering two green shields to defend themselves.
The Wolfblade King landed above, hammering the shields with relentless fury.
“Whimpering…”
Dong Jun cowered behind Zero Silence, trembling as cracks began to spiderweb across the shield.
“Attack its tail!”
Shi Yan fired again, bullets striking the beast’s tail.
“Got it!”
Mo Xing unleashed Frostwater Cyclone, sending several sharp, swirling ice blades slicing at the tail.
“Big Bad Wolf! Taste my spear!” Xiao Feng charged in with Dragon’s Radiance.
“Awooo—!”
Suddenly, the Wolfblade King spun around, eyes aglow with crimson menace.
“Watch out!” Li Xiangcao cried.
Xiao Feng was about to be caught by the claws when, at the last instant, a massive watery hand seized him, dragging him out of harm’s way.
Frostwater’s Grasp!
Mo Xing had cast the skill in the nick of time, pulling Xiao Feng back from the edge of death.
“Boom—!”
Dirt and sand exploded three meters high where the Wolfblade King struck, leaving behind a deep claw print.
“Holy crap!” Xiao Feng gasped, “Thanks, bro!”
“No problem.” Mo Xing set him down to the side.
“Follow my lead,” Shi Yan commanded. “Mo Xing, back me up on offense. The guy with the spear and that other girl, go for flanking. Wu Dancai, protect the other two. Zero Silence, focus on healing!”
“Huh? Wait!” Zero Silence looked around. “Where’s Wu Dancai?”

“Huh? Wu Dancai? Didn’t I call him over?” Mo Xing glanced around. “Don’t tell me he’s still asleep?”
He really did have a reputation for sleeping like the dead!
“Seriously? So unreliable!” Xiao Feng complained.
“Awooo—!”
The Wolfblade King roared again, charging straight for Zero Silence and Dong Jun.
“Stop it! Don’t let it reach the healer!” Shi Yan shouted.
“On it!”
Xiao Feng spun his spear, unleashing Spear Technique: Dragon’s Cyclone, leaping and weaving around the Wolfblade King.
“…Fine.” Li Xiangcao hesitated for half a second before grabbing her twin swords and joining Xiao Feng in flanking the beast.
“Awooo—!”
With agile opponents harassing both sides, the Wolfblade King was momentarily at a loss, sweeping its giant claws left and right.
“Mo Xing, pin it down!” Shi Yan called again—the beast’s tail was moving too erratically to get a clean shot.
“Got it!”
Mo Xing leapt into the air, gathering icy energy and releasing Arctic Freeze. The temperature plummeted, and layers of ice crystals spread from the Wolfblade King’s back, quickly freezing it in place.
“Wow! Amazing!” Dong Jun gasped.
“Now! Go for the tail!” Shi Yan dashed in with another Shadow Step, spinning her gun in her right hand until it transformed into a sharp crimson blade, which she hurled at the Wolfblade King’s tail.
Crimson Blade Dance!
The gunblade tore through ice and flesh, severing the tail—blood and shards of frost spraying everywhere.
“Awooo—!”
The Wolfblade King howled in agony, a surge of power bursting from its massive form. The ice shattered instantly, breaking the bonds of Arctic Freeze!
Seeing this, Shi Yan immediately retreated with Shadow Step, her thrown gunblade boomeranging back to her hand and shifting back to gun form.
“We need to repeat this three more times!” Shi Yan declared. “Yes—three more hits to the tail!”
“How can you be sure this will work?” Li Xiangcao demanded, skeptical from the start. The Wolfblade King’s hide was so thick, attacking the tail hardly seemed effective!
“Intuition and judgment!”
Shi Yan retreated a few more steps, evading another savage lunge.
“This thing’s stamina is insane!” Xiao Feng shouted, “If we keep this up, it’ll wear us down!”
Even with their hit-and-run tactics, they couldn’t avoid every attack.
“No worries!”
Mo Xing cast Pillar of Ice, freezing the Wolfblade King to help Shi Yan, then called out, “We’ve got healing!”
“On it! Woodland Shelter!”
Zero Silence and his summoned beast released another wave of green energy, bathing everyone in light and forming protective shields.
“Keep it up!”
Dong Jun peeked out from behind Zero Silence, cheering them on.

Elsewhere on the hillside—
Two figures, cloaked in invisibility, watched the battle unfold. One was Zuo Zuo; the other was Lin Ao.
“Let the tigers battle from the mountain,” Zuo Zuo remarked, eyes glinting as he watched the fierce clash below.
“Watch the river flow from the bridge,” Lin Ao replied, just as Mo Xing once again froze the Wolfblade King with Arctic Freeze.
“Nice follow-up!” Zuo Zuo chuckled. “Old Ao, when do we jump in? Watching them struggle is agony!”
“Not yet.” Lin Ao shook his head. The Wolfblade King was breaking free with increasing ferocity, its attacks wounding more and more of the group.
“Besides, that one hasn’t made a move yet.” Lin Ao added, glancing two hundred meters to the west, where a shadow lurked silently by the grass, also observing the scene.
“That old fox!” Zuo Zuo sneered. “Maybe we should seize an opportunity to take him out?”

“I don’t care about anything outside the mission,” Lin Ao replied coldly. “If you want to try, go ahead. But he’s no easy target.”
“No, no! That old guy… I can’t take him one-on-one. Maybe with a sneak attack!” Zuo Zuo avoided Lin Ao’s gaze—his look was enough to “kill.”
“Anyway, watching them fight wolves isn’t part of our objective, is it? Wouldn’t it be better to find a comfy spot, fire up the sleep pod, and get some rest?” Zuo Zuo yawned.
They’d been trailing Mo Xing’s group since noon—first watching them intercept the Brute Monster’s supply shipment in the afternoon, then witnessing the cunning “Hundred Red Lotus Hounds at Daming Lake” at dusk. They’d thought they could rest for the night, but out popped the Wolfblade King.
Seriously, what kind of luck did Mo Xing have?
Luck aside, after three battles, they still hadn’t had a single chance to join in—just watching these “clumsy performances” was unbearable! Zuo Zuo grumbled inwardly.
“Plans are dead, people are alive,” Lin Ao mused.
“And these people are interesting enough to warrant study,” he added, pausing, “especially that young man, Mo Xing.”

“Mo Xing! Fall back!” Shi Yan called.
“Got it!”
Mo Xing retreated from the frozen Wolfblade King, barely making it out before the beast shattered its bonds.
“One more round. If we repeat the cycle, we’ll sever its tail for good!” Shi Yan said, sweat pouring down her brow. Three coordinated attacks in ten minutes, striking the beast’s weak point—just one more to go.
“Haha, wait for me! I, Xiao Feng, will land the final blow!” Xiao Feng cried with excitement, swinging his spear and sending a cloud of dust swirling.
“Awooo—!”
The Wolfblade King’s roars grew more frenzied, its eyes bloodshot, a yellowish smoke rising from its body.
“What’s going on?”
Everyone frowned.
“Awooo—!”
Suddenly, the Wolfblade King’s speed exploded severalfold, charging straight for Mo Xing.
Mo Xing dodged with Frostwater: Spiral Tempest, but the beast’s claws weren’t aiming for him—they snatched up a massive boulder and, with a sudden spin, hurled it at Xiao Feng.
Caught off guard by momentum, Xiao Feng couldn’t brake in time and was sent flying by the boulder.
What was happening?!
“Careful! It’s gone berserk!”
Before Shi Yan could finish, the Wolfblade King shot past her and lunged straight at Zero Silence.
“Elderwood—!”
Zero Silence couldn’t cast in time; the beast broke through his shield and sent him crashing to the ground, his clothes torn with three deep claw marks.
“Brother Zero Silence!” Dong Jun panicked, tears streaming down his face.
“Awooo—!”
The Wolfblade King turned on Dong Jun. At that moment, Elderwood leaped to block the attack, but was swatted aside.
In just three seconds, two people and a summoned beast lay defeated. Mo Xing trembled with rage:
“Damn it!”
