[Reboot Volume] Chapter 231: Young Man, Interested in Taking the Job?
7:50 a.m.
After finishing breakfast, Mo Xing headed to the Guangyi Teaching Building for class.
Senior Brother Cai Hong and Senior Brother Mianhua had recommended several excellent theory instructors, but Mo Xing still needed to find the classrooms himself.
Fortunately, there were notices posted in the lobby and outside each classroom, indicating which tutor taught in which room along with a brief course description.
When Mo Xing found these classrooms, they were packed with students; some freshmen who couldn’t find seats simply sat on the floor.
Every seat was taken!
The classes taught by the recommended tutors were basically full. These freshmen had arrived even earlier than him—Mo Xing couldn’t secure a spot at all.
After wandering around for half an hour, he still hadn’t found any classroom with available seats. The enthusiasm of the freshmen to enroll far exceeded his expectations.
Practical classes wouldn’t open until the afternoon, so if he couldn’t find a seat, he might as well return to the dorm first.
Suddenly, Mo Xing felt an inexplicable chill. He quickly turned back and noticed a tutor inside one of the passing classrooms casting a sharp glance his way.
It was a tutor.
He wore a black trench coat, vintage glasses, and had a slightly long beard.
His gaze was filled with a menacing aura, as if silently saying: “Student, coming to class? Since you’re passing by, why not come in and take a seat? What? Even the tutor’s invitation you refuse?”
Mo Xing was momentarily stunned but then walked inside.
This classroom was different from others—there were fewer students, neatly seated in the first two rows.
Perhaps due to a recent news report, the students looked at Mo Xing like he was a distinguished guest, but when the tutor on the podium cleared his throat, they quickly turned their attention back to the blackboard.
Since the first two rows were full, Mo Xing had to sit alone in the third row.
He really felt like a VIP taking a seat.
“All right, almost everyone’s here,” the teacher on the podium paused, “Let’s begin the lesson.”
Mo Xing thought to himself: This class has less than a tenth of the students compared to other classrooms. Is this tutor really that easily satisfied?
“I am the lead instructor for this history course—Xue Dinghai.”
Xue Dinghai?
Schrödinger’s Cat?
The Sea-Calming Needle?
What a casual name!
Mo Xing internally scoffed.
“At the same time, I am also the Dean of Instruction at the Royal Saint Hollow Academy.”
Dean of Instruction?
Good heavens!
What a hidden gem!
My apologies! Mo Xing quickly apologized in his heart.
Applause broke out in the front two rows, and Mo Xing joined in clapping.
“A long, long time ago, there was a blacksmith named Collins. He always boasted that his name was the best signboard for the forge. One day, a mysterious VIP came to his shop…” Xue Dinghai launched into a lengthy narrative.
Hearing the opening of the story, Mo Xing felt a bit drowsy, but he definitely couldn’t nod off on the podium—his seat was too conspicuous! So he forced himself to stay awake and listen.
…
*Dong—*
The bell rang outside the window.
Mo Xing snapped back to attention, realizing he had nearly fallen asleep, having yawned countless times. The students in the front two rows were even more “out of it.”
Because the story was just too boring!
Xue Dinghai’s lecture was unbearably dull!
What was the difference between this and an author padding word count?
None at all!
“What a pity, class is over so quickly.”
Xue Dinghai shook his head and began tidying the textbooks on the podium.
“The school should allow more time for classes; three hours is hardly enough for me to cover everything,” a look of regret etched on his serious face.
“Xiaofeng, wake up! Class is over!” Mo Xing saw a student shaking the person next to him in the front row.
“What? Class is over?”
The student named Xiaofeng suddenly sprang up, swinging his legs off the desk onto the floor, then dashed out the front door of the classroom. His friend followed behind him, and their voices echoed down the corridor—
“I’m never attending Xue Dinghai’s class again!”
“Hey, what did you say, student? Don’t make me learn your name and student ID, or I’ll deduct all your credits and make sure you can’t graduate!” Xue Dinghai shouted from the front door.
“Hmph, students like that can pass assessments? No respect for teachers or elders at all.”
Xue Dinghai turned around in surprise and found the classroom empty except for Mo Xing.
“They… just ran out the back door,” Mo Xing said bluntly, pointing to the open rear exit.
“One after another acting like this—what a disgrace!” Xue Dinghai frowned. “And you? What are you doing here?”
“Teacher Xue, I have a task confirmation form to submit to you.” Mo Xing took the task document from his storage ring. Since the Dean of Instruction was right here, there was no need to go to the academic office—he could hand it over directly.
“Oh?”
“An A-grade mission?” Xue Dinghai looked surprised. “You also took part in the encirclement operation the night before last?”
“Mm-hmm.” Mo Xing nodded. “I just helped a little; the main credit belongs to the Student Council President and the Campus Security team.”
“All right, I understand. You can get back to your business.” Xue Dinghai put the document away.
“I’ll take my leave then.” Mo Xing waved and exited through the front door.
Xue Dinghai watched Mo Xing disappear down the hallway, smiling faintly as he murmured:
“Grant Shaal, it seems this year’s freshmen are quite interesting.”
Academy Plaza.
The main thoroughfare leading to the Poli Dining Hall and the Rain Apartments.
Various recruitment booths were set up across the plaza, with tents adorned by banners and small decorations. A constant flow of people passed through, bustling with an energy reminiscent of a lively festival.
Mo Xing weaved through the crowd, his hands stuffed with countless recruitment flyers.
He felt awkward refusing people; more accurately, he didn’t know how to refuse. With everyone so enthusiastic, his heart softened, and he nodded, accepting the flyers.
“Student, would you like to learn about the Campus Newspaper?” someone tapped Mo Xing from behind.
“Uh, sure. I can take a look.”
Mo Xing turned around, ready to reach for another flyer, but the person stopped.
“You… you’re Mo Xing!” the person exclaimed.
That declaration was loud enough to draw attention from nearby people, including those who had just handed Mo Xing flyers.
“Uh… yes,” Mo Xing stammered.
Before he could finish, a large group suddenly surged around him, all holding flyers.
“Mo Xing, please check out the Campus Radio Station!”
“Mo Xing, our Outdoor Travel Group is great too!”
“Mo Xing, the Literature Club welcomes you! Think about it!”
“Ah, this is…”
Mo Xing was at a loss for words, overwhelmed by so many people crowding around him.
When did I become a celebrity? Why is everyone competing to invite me to join their groups?
“Hey, do you guys know this is the Singer Team’s recruitment area? Unauthorized personnel, please leave,” Mo Xing scanned the scene and saw Senior Brother Mianhua approaching with several students.
“I’m talking to you! Still distributing flyers here?” Mianhua sharply pointed at one of the people.
“Recruitment week is a free competition; what territory are you talking about?” the other side smiled. “Are you a little dog that needs to mark its territory?”
“What nonsense! You’re disrupting our recruitment, and you think that’s acceptable? If you’ve got the guts, let’s fight!” Mianhua cracked his knuckles.
“Come on, are you scared?” The other threw down the flyer and rolled up his sleeves.
“Senior Brother, calm down!” Mo Xing hurried to intervene.
“Mianhua, calm down! You’re hurting the Singer Team’s image!” other members quickly stepped in to hold him back.
“Don’t bother with me, this guy needs to be taught a lesson!” Mianhua shook off their grip.
“Trouble! The Campus Security team is here!”
At the shout, Mianhua suddenly stopped, and the other party lowered their fists.
Mo Xing turned and saw the dense crowd parting to reveal a group of soldiers led by Captain Huo.
“Recruitment must be orderly. Please do not block public pathways,” Captain Huo said.
“Okay… okay,” the other side apologized.
“Sorry, my fault,” Mianhua scratched his head sheepishly, looking quite different from his earlier impulsive self.
“It’s midday; if there’s nothing urgent, go get some food,” Captain Huo continued.
The crowd dispersed, including the troublemaker.
Mo Xing sighed in relief. Captain Huo truly lived up to his role as Security Team Captain—like a mighty lion emanating an unspoken majesty, exuding a kingly aura.
“Mo Xing, you’re here too? Long time no see!” Captain Huo spotted him standing nearby.
“Captain Huo, long time no see!” Mo Xing waved in greeting.
“Little Junior Brother Mo Xing, you even know this big shot?” Mianhua approached after sending others away.
“Yeah,” Mo Xing nodded.
“Isn’t this the kid who was tied up in the Divine Weapon Tower? Body fully recovered?” Captain Huo chuckled.
“Of course! I’m in great shape!” Mianhua proudly patted his chest.
“Captain Huo, do you remember me? When I was a freshman, I had a few practical classes where Teacher Tianqi was on a business trip, and you substituted,” Mianhua extended his hand.
“Oh, really? I haven’t taught in a while, so I’m not too familiar with the details.”
“Well, let’s reintroduce ourselves,” Captain Huo stepped forward to shake hands.
“By the way, Mo Xing! I have something to ask you!” Captain Huo suddenly turned around.
“What is it? Please go ahead,” Mo Xing replied.
“We have a bandit suppression operation Friday night and need your help!” Captain Huo said.
“I see. Could you elaborate?” Mo Xing nodded.
“Bandit suppression?” Mianhua muttered.
“The target is a group of thieves. According to our observers, they hold collective meetings every Friday night at a designated location.”
“Why doesn’t your Security Team just capture them directly?” Mianhua asked.
“We could, but our personnel are too conspicuous and might alert them,” Captain Huo shook his head. “So we need to rely on you, Mo Xing, to assist.”
“Do I have some special advantage?” Mo Xing asked.
“Yeah, I heard your element is water, which will be crucial for this operation,” Captain Huo said. “Don’t worry, you’ll be safely infiltrated under our cover and will return unscathed after the mission.”
“All right, I accept,” Mo Xing nodded.
“I want to join this operation too!” Mianhua suddenly proposed. “I’m worried Mo Xing can’t handle it alone.”
Captain Huo frowned, thought for a moment, took a deep breath, then shook his head.
“Sorry, this mission is suitable only for Mo Xing. I hope you understand.”
“All right, all right. Remember to call me next time,” Mianhua pouted.
“Will do.” Captain Huo turned and patted Mo Xing’s shoulder. “Meet me at the school gate after lunch on Friday.”
“Got it,” Mo Xing replied.
