[Reboot Volume] Chapter 220: The Secret Within!
“Talk? Talk about what?”
“I have things to attend to! The vice president of the student council has fallen ill, and the president hasn’t returned yet. A lot of matters need my attention!” Chen Anye looked at the scalpel in Doctor Bai’s hand without the slightest hint of fear.
“So?” Doctor Bai retorted.
“So, Doctor Bai, please let me pass.” Chen Anye added.
“Let you pass? Sure, but answer me one question first.” Doctor Bai closed the door with his right hand.
“What question?” Chen Anye asked.
“Your true identity.” Doctor Bai said.
“My true identity? I’m a senior officer of the student council!” Chen Anye replied swiftly.
“And?” Doctor Bai pressed on.
“Isn’t the hospital database supposed to have detailed information on every student? Shouldn’t you be asking me?” Chen Anye frowned.
“Oh? You know that? Seems like you really have been there.” Doctor Bai narrowed his eyes.
“Doctor Bai, what do you mean by that?” Chen Anye said impatiently. “I have things to do. I must go now!”
“What do you think it means? After all this time playing a part, aren’t you tired?” Doctor Bai smiled and blocked Chen Anye’s way.
“I really don’t understand what you’re saying! Please move aside!” Chen Anye shouted. “Don’t blame me if I resort to assaulting a doctor!”
“Oh?”
Three glowing orbs appeared beside Doctor Bai, and beneath his feet, a six-pointed star magic circle of blue light emerged.
“Young man, I want to see who’s going to teach whom!”
...
Elsewhere.
Mo Xing chased from the fourth floor down to the lobby on the first floor and finally spotted the figure clad in a black cloak. That person didn’t even look back as he vanished into the pouring rain.
“Damn it!”
Mo Xing cursed. The rain was heavy, and the man had a hooded cloak on—yet he had managed to slip away?
No way!
Mo Xing took off his jacket, wrapped it around his head, and dashed out after him.
He couldn’t just let him get away! That person had been eavesdropping on their conversation—there had to be something off about his identity! Maybe even some close connection to the Dark Sect!
“Ah… achoo!”
Mo Xing sneezed, suddenly feeling foolish for rushing out into the rain without an umbrella. But if he went back now, the nurses would laugh at him—and the suspect would get away!
Why was he so useless? Didn’t he control water elements? Didn’t he possess the power of the Water Dragon God? If only he could pause the heavy rain! Even if he couldn’t control the weather, conjuring a simple umbrella would suffice!
Wait—umbrella!
While running, Mo Xing began releasing the water element within him.
One water sphere!
Two water spheres!
Three water spheres!
...
Ten water spheres!
They gathered into an umbrella shape!
Then froze solid!
Mo Xing lifted the umbrella he had “created” and continued running through the rain.
Whether it was from losing blood or releasing so much water element at once, he felt a bit fatigued. Luckily, the Water Dragon God’s power flowed within him, quickly restoring his strength, making him feel like his energetic self again!
But now wasn’t the time to dwell on that. He was still some distance behind the cloaked figure and needed to quicken his pace to catch him!
Suddenly, Mo Xing felt the ground vanish beneath his feet and fell forward, sprawling on the wet ground.
“Pain… this hurts.”
By the time Mo Xing got up, the cloaked figure had already disappeared into the rain.
“Lost him again…”
Mo Xing raised his umbrella and looked around. A bright white light emerged from the darkness.
It looked like a building.
As Mo Xing approached, the intense white light grew warmer, like a stove beckoning his drenched body.
Drawing closer, he realized the light was not only warm but also solemn and grand.
It was a towering giant!
In the rainy night stood a majestic tower! Raindrops glistened on its surface, casting a shimmering glow. Mo Xing looked up through the mist; a giant lamp at the top flickered—likely the tower’s pinnacle. From his vantage point, the full grandeur of the tower remained hidden.
...
“Students, teachers, staff, and honored guests from afar, good evening!”
Suddenly, a broadcast blared in his ears. Mo Xing noticed a loudspeaker tied to a nearby tree.
“This is the campus radio station. We apologize for disturbing your rest at this late hour. We have an urgent announcement that requires your attention.”
Mo Xing recognized the voice—it was Senior Brother Cai Hong!
Cai Hong’s connections were impressive. He had swiftly handled the processes to get onto the campus radio and become a broadcaster—not even half an hour had passed!
“Today, our school experienced two emergencies. First, at noon, an unidentified masked individual abducted a third-year student. A passing second-year student was also poisoned and remains hospitalized.”
Mo Xing clenched his fists, anger rising as he thought of the abducted Mian Hua and the injured Shi Yan. He vowed to find the masked man and tear him to shreds!
“The second incident occurred this evening, witnessed by many. A first-year freshman ingested forbidden drugs and went berserk. Fortunately, their mentor intervened in time, preventing serious harm.”
“The school authorities have launched an investigation. Please stay vigilant of your surroundings and report any suspicious activity to the student council or campus security.”
“Students providing valid information may receive scholarships and credit rewards.”
...
Mo Xing didn’t continue listening but stared at the giant tower, feeling it possessed some mysterious power drawing him inside. Had the person he chased just entered there? He could rush in and catch him red-handed!
But then again, two pages in his review materials contained the school map—yet the tower wasn’t marked. He hadn’t traveled far from the hospital, and since he could hear the campus broadcast, he was definitely still within school grounds.
“For safety, all faculty and students are advised to avoid going out alone or taking shortcuts, especially in weather like tonight’s.”
The broadcast continued.
Mo Xing frowned—it seemed directed at people like him, curious and prone to wandering.
Oh well, better to return the same way for now. Next time, he’d gather more information and come with his seniors. The tower remained here; it wasn’t going anywhere.
As Mo Xing turned, a stone plaque by the roadside caught his eye. Three red characters on it reminded him of the first clue Shi Yan had mentioned:
“Divine Weapon Tower!”
Seeing those red words, Mo Xing ran back.
How fascinating! Everything in this world was interconnected! The masked man had taken Mian Hua in the morning and harmed Shi Yan. That evening’s freshman rampage after drug ingestion. And the black-cloaked figure eavesdropping at the hospital—all pointed to the “Dark Sect”!
Who would have thought such a cringeworthy cult would orchestrate such a grand scheme!
Thanks to Shi Yan’s crucial clue, he wouldn’t have missed this Divine Weapon Tower!
The Water Dragon God Kashin was known for his keen perception. Since Mo Xing had inherited his power, his intuition and sixth sense should be sharp too! Who would have thought that one day, he’d become a detective like Sherlock Holmes, solving mysteries!
Mo Xing arrived at the Divine Weapon Tower.
The gate stood open, faint light spilling out. Two stone pillars each coiled with a silver-white stone dragon. Their golden pupils shone like giant lamps illuminating the path through the gate.
He glanced inside and stepped in.
The interior differed from outside: metallic walls intertwined with vines, flickering incandescent lights on the ceiling, floors covered with dust. It was clear no one had tended this place for a long time. But why were the lights still on? Shouldn’t this be an abandoned tower?
Something was definitely amiss!
Mo Xing surveyed the first-floor lobby but found nothing special—just a large empty room. He decided to check upstairs.
He truly felt like a young detective; the stairs before him were the inevitable path to the truth.
Wait!
Mo Xing spotted a shoeprint on the dusty staircase.
Strangely, there was only one print!
Judging by the size, it was a size 43 shoe—likely a male.
He guessed the owner might have a flying skill like “Dragon God’s Wings,” perhaps stopping to rest mid-flight.
Justice always prevails!
With the shoeprint here, the suspect wasn’t far!
Mo Xing dashed upward.
He searched all the way to the fourteenth floor but found no clues.
Leaning against the wall, he panted heavily. This was an empty tower! No wonder it wasn’t on the school map!
“Click—”
Suddenly, a chill ran down his spine. The wall behind him emitted a mechanical grinding sound!
Could there be another hidden space behind the wall? Thinking carefully, the tower’s exterior was imposing, but inside, though spacious, it felt like he hadn’t seen the whole picture.
He was only in a stairwell corridor!
Mo Xing quickly got up, feeling along the wall for any mechanism.
Right side...
Right side...
Further right...
The sensation grew stronger, as if the truth was close!
“Enter?”
In the silent corridor, a system prompt sounded.
Mo Xing’s hand froze. He took a deep breath.
There was definitely a secret!
“Yes!” Mo Xing confirmed.
Suddenly, the wall where his hand rested lit up with a blue glow, trembling slightly. Centered on his palm, beams of twisting light radiated outward, shining intensely on his face.
This... this was a tree!
