Chapter 91: Surely Directed at the Girl He Loves
After sending the WeChat message, Bian Yang pressed his lips into a faint smile, slipped one hand into his pocket, and stepped into a nearby flower shop.
“Hello, what kind of flowers would you like?” The young shop assistant’s eyes lit up the moment she saw him.
Wow, what a handsome guy!
He wore a crisp blue shirt paired with casual, light-colored trousers, a white T-shirt thrown on underneath, its loose neckline just revealing his collarbone. There, in the shifting shadows, a beauty mark shimmered with quiet allure. He looked as if he’d dressed with careful intention, yet the wild and languid air about him seemed ready to burst free.
Though, those dark circles under his eyes were rather conspicuous.
Looks like the handsome guy didn’t sleep well.
Bian Yang kept his eyes lowered, glancing over the varieties of flowers. “For my future girlfriend,” he said.
The shop assistant immediately reined in her wandering thoughts—so he had a girlfriend after all. But she keenly caught the word “future?”
Thinking perhaps of Tang Yu, he smiled, and gave a soft “mm.” “I’m confessing today.”
“For a confession, red roses are best. Their meaning is a love as passionate as fire. Or pink roses—girls love those nowadays. Champagne roses are also a hot seller here!” the assistant eagerly recommended, but Bian Yang’s gaze had wandered elsewhere.
He bent down, long, slender fingers brushing over a khaki-colored rose.
Not as flamboyant as red, nor as delicate as pink, it sat quietly in an inconspicuous spot, yet drew the eye all the same.
“This is a cappuccino rose. Its meaning is ‘an unexpected encounter,’” the assistant said.
An unexpected encounter.
Wasn’t it just so? Meeting was indeed a stroke of luck.
Bian Yang looked up. “Can I wrap it myself?”
Normally, that wouldn’t be allowed, but without a second thought the assistant agreed, leading him into the shop. “Of course!”
Bian Yang thanked her, and his tall figure had to stoop as he entered.
The assistant guided him through the wrapping process.
He set his backpack aside, legs casually apart as he sat there. His shirt sleeves were rolled up, revealing a stretch of pale, slender wrist.
Clearly, he wasn’t used to handiwork; he pricked himself several times. The assistant almost suggested he just buy a ready-made bouquet, but seeing the earnest focus in his lowered profile, she swallowed her words.
It took half an hour to finish the bouquet.
Looking at the flowers in his hand, something seemed to flit across Bian Yang’s mind. His usually nonchalant eyes now brimmed with an unguarded, gentle light.
The assistant watched as the young man left.
He clutched the bouquet in one hand and raced off in a certain direction.
Sunlight fell over his shoulders, and the breeze ruffled his hair.
She didn’t know where he was headed.
But surely, it was toward the girl he cherished.
——
The car ride lasted an hour and a half. Tang Yu, drowsy, was jolted awake by the driver’s reminder.
She rubbed the sleep from her eyes and found herself gazing at an amusement park.
Tang Yu blinked. “This place is…”
The driver, ever the gentleman, opened the car door for her. “This is Shang City’s amusement park. Have fun! And don’t forget to give your boyfriend a good review.”
Shang City was the urban district above Liangcheng. Tang Yu had only ever come here for competitions.
At the driver’s words, her ears flushed pink. She got out of the car with her large bag of snacks, tilted her head back, and looked up at the roller coaster plummeting straight down. Shrieks and laughter rang out from above.
The sun was fierce, dazzling, and almost disorienting.
It was a holiday; the place was bustling. Families with children, couples arm in arm…
The warm breeze, tinged with the scent of camphor trees, swept in from all sides, and everyone’s face was lit by a brilliant smile.
[Walk forward.]
Her phone buzzed.
Following the blue markers at her feet, Tang Yu walked on, head down, until she stopped before a pair of white sneakers.
Looking up past those long, straight legs, she met Bian Yang’s slightly upturned eyes.
Seeing him dressed in the same clothes as herself, Tang Yu was startled. The thought “matching outfits” flashed through her mind.
Then, like a magician, he produced a bouquet from behind his back and held it out to her.
Wrapped in reddish-brown paper, the rose petals overlapped like fine cashmere. In the middle, chocolate truffles nestled, looking just like delectable candies. Not flashy, but breathtakingly beautiful.
Bian Yang flicked her forehead. “Why are you just standing there? Take it.”
Tang Yu looked up at him, her almond eyes clear, her expression a little dazed.
He stuffed the bouquet into her arms, then lifted her bag and snacks from her hands. “Happy birthday.”
She looked down at the flowers in her arms, blinking slowly. “For me?”
He gave a soft snort. “Who else? Is there anyone else here?”
“Thank you.” The corners of her lips arched in a gentle smile.
His gaze lingered on her features for a moment, and seeing her delighted, a subtle relief softened his lips. “Let’s go in.”
The amusement park was small but well equipped.
Her grandmother had brought her here once when she was a child, but after that, with work and studies, she’d never come again.
Perhaps because she was carrying flowers, people kept looking at her. Tang Yu, naturally shy, felt a little awkward.
Bian Yang glanced at her—she was practically burying her face in the bouquet—and found it amusing.
“Tang Xiaoyu, do the flowers smell so good you want to eat them?” he teased.
She immediately looked up, fingers pinching the wrapping, and murmured, “I remember there’s a storage area here. Can we leave the bouquet there?”
“Why store it? You don’t like it?” he asked, one eyebrow raised, eyes lazily sweeping over her.
“No.” She quickly shook her head, her voice faltering. “It’s just… not convenient.”
As if struck by inspiration, she continued, “Right, not convenient. Since we’re here to play, it’s hard to carry things around.”
Bian Yang glanced at the snacks and bag in his hands and found her reasoning sound.
He took the bouquet and went to find the storage area, cautioning her before he left, “Wait here. Don’t wander off.”
Tang Yu nodded and stood obediently in place, watching him go.
Nearby, she overheard a few girls whispering:
“Did you see that handsome guy, the one with the flowers?”
“Did I need you to say it? My radar already went off. Too bad he seems to have a girlfriend—and they’re wearing matching outfits…”
The girls glanced her way. Tang Yu quickly looked away, fingers tightening slightly, and turned to watch Bian Yang.
Everything he did exuded an effortless ease, and yet he was impossibly radiant.
As if he was born to be this way.
Bright. Striking.
Wherever he was, all eyes would be drawn to him.
It made her feel a pang of inferiority from deep within…
Tang Yu lowered her gaze and, blinking hard, banished those messy thoughts from her mind.
No, that’s not it.
She could do it.
Bian Yang had told her—she was wonderful.
She deserved all good things.
She was in no way inferior to anyone.
