Chapter 125: Now that he is angry, he certainly won't let me kiss him.
On the way back, the sky was already filled with the setting sun.
She sat by the window on the bus. A small gap was open in the window, and the wind rushing in from the outside world carried the scent of grass and trees, washing over her in a sudden wave.
Strands of hair gently brushed her jaw. The young girl gazed absentmindedly into the distance.
Only when the bus stopped at Qingyuan High School did she snap back to reality and get off.
She tiptoed, looking around, and finally spotted the person she was looking for.
Bathed in sunset light, the boy leaned lazily against a streetlamp. One long leg was slightly bent, the other stretched out casually. He wore a black baseball cap, his head tilted down just enough to shadow half of his delicate face. In his palm, his fingers flipped his phone absentmindedly, as if lost in thought.
As she quietly approached, intending to sneak around and startle him from behind,
he suddenly noticed her and grabbed her wrist, pulling her over to stand before him.
“Tang Xiaoyu, you’re getting naughty, trying to scare me.”
His knuckles tapped lightly on her head—not too hard—and he smoothly took what she was holding from her hand.
Tang Yu was surprised. “How did you notice? You were clearly looking down just now.”
“Guess,” he said naturally, holding one of her hands in his, their fingers intertwining tightly.
The warmth of his palm was comforting; Tang Yu was gradually getting used to this closeness between them.
She protested, “You must have seen me earlier and pretended not to notice!”
“Wrong,” he replied lazily, his voice magnetic and pleasant. “Keep guessing.”
Tang Yu walked forward with him holding her hand, tilting her head to look at him. “Then you were watching the bus the whole time, so as soon as I got off, you knew it.”
“Pfft, stop being so narcissistic,” Bian Yang chuckled. “If you can’t guess, I’ll have to punish you.”
Tang Yu puffed out her cheeks, muttering, “I never said I wanted to bet with you.”
“Besides…” Her tone softened with a hint of pride, “You wouldn’t actually punish me.”
Bian Yang pressed his tongue against his jaw and gave a perfunctory “Hmm.”
He really couldn’t bear to.
Though the sunlight had faded, the day was still warm.
Bian Yang took off his baseball cap; his hair was a little messy. One hand held the things he’d picked up, the other held hers. The wind tousled his hair, but he made no effort to fix it.
Tang Yu noticed and signaled him to lower his head.
Unaware of her intention, he bent down without hesitation until their eyes were level.
Tang Yu released their intertwined hands, stood on tiptoe, and gently smoothed his bangs.
They were somewhat damp, probably from the heat.
“It’s pretty hot today. Why wear a hat?”
He was handsome; even a little tousled hair suited him perfectly.
Bian Yang had been waiting at the bus stop, timing her arrival. Earlier, a few girls had repeatedly asked for his WeChat, so he’d lazily gone to a nearby store to buy a hat. Now he said, “To avoid the sun.”
Tang Yu said, “You don’t need to pick me up next time. It’s not like I can’t find my way home.”
Her slender fingers slowly threaded through his dark hair.
Bian Yang was tickled by her gentle touch. Resting his hands on his knees, he relaxed and cooperated with her, “I’m just bored, anyway.”
“When I get busy, you might even have to beg me to pick you up, and I still might not have time.”
He spoke in a teasing, spoiled tone.
Tang Yu’s eyes curved slightly. “That’s true.”
After tidying his hair, she lowered her heel, and their eyes met casually.
The faint bruising near his lips did nothing to diminish his good looks; it even added a bit of wild charm.
She reached out to touch it. “Does it still hurt?”
“Not anymore.” Bian Yang’s gaze dropped, resting on her soft lips.
They seemed to be glossed with something, shining even more invitingly than before.
He pressed his lips lightly, his Adam’s apple moving slowly. “After all, I took some special medicine last night. It works pretty well.”
Tang Yu also recalled last night and touched her cheek, feeling a bit warm.
She stepped back to steady herself. “You seem to be in a good mood today. Did something happen?”
She hinted, “Did your dad come to see you yesterday? Did he contact you again today or anything…”
At the mention of this, the smile in Bian Yang’s eyes flickered and faded. He straightened slightly and scoffed, “Don’t say it, but you guessed right. Two hours ago, he actually called me.”
Tang Yu immediately asked, “What did he say?”
“He actually apologized.” Thinking of Bian Cheng’s words annoyed him. “Probably early Alzheimer’s or water got into his head when washing his hair. Anyway, he’s acting crazy.”
Tang Yu said, “…Maybe he realized his mistake and sincerely apologized?”
Bian Yang raised his eyelids slightly. “I still think he’s crazy.”
Tang Yu: “…”
It seemed Uncle Qi was right. Their conflicts couldn’t be resolved by a simple apology.
Interestingly, no matter how bad things got between them, neither had ever thought to block the other.
“Bian Yang.” She gently poked his hand. “I actually think you’re really happy today.”
Bian Yang’s posture was casual. “Which eye did you see me happy with? That phone call ruined my whole perfect afternoon.”
Tang Yu blinked. “But Uncle Bian seems kind of interesting, and you two are really alike in some ways.”
Both arrogant yet rather endearing.
“Tang Xiaoyu, whose side are you really on?”
Bian Yang pointed grumpily at the corner of his lips and snorted. “Your boyfriend got beaten by him, and you’re still defending him?”
“I’m obviously on your side!” She said quickly, looking utterly loyal.
“Doesn’t look like it,” he glanced sideways. “You seem more like a traitor.”
“…”
One had to admit, boys’ instincts could be quite accurate sometimes.
Tang Yu lightly brushed her fingertips against his fingers.
Though Bian Yang didn’t pull away, he didn’t respond either; that was his sign of being upset.
“Are you angry?” She gently traced his palm, and he almost instinctively clasped her hand.
Realizing that was too easy for her, making him seem cheap, he quickly let go.
But he only released it, letting her finger dangle and sway freely.
“Bian Yang, you’re really mad, aren’t you?”
He glanced at her arrogantly, saying nothing.
Giving her a few seconds to reflect.
Tang Yu stepped a little closer and tilted her head to look at him.
Sure enough, he was a bit annoyed.
She lowered her head, pressed her lips into a smile, then lifted her chin and said to herself, “So what now? I still want to kiss my boyfriend, but now that he’s angry, he surely won’t let me.”
Bian Yang: “?”
Looking down at the playful glint in her eyes, the boy’s voice hushed slightly, “Tang Xiaoyu, say that again if you dare.”
She wasn’t scared at all and said calmly, “Yesterday you said you wanted me to take the initiative.” After pondering the idea of initiative all night, she’d finally formed a small plan. “Too bad my boyfriend’s mad right now, so I can’t really make my move.”
There was a faint hint of frustration in her eyes.
Obviously a show, but an irresistibly lively one.
He was completely captivated, unable to look away.
Bian Yang turned his hand over and took hers gently, pulling her closer. “Fine, since you’re so eager, I’ll let you take the lead for now.”
Tang Yu smiled, pressing her lips together. “So you can still be like this? I thought you were mad.”
Bian Yang’s tone was flat but mischievous. “I can be mad another day.”
