Chapter Twenty-Two: The Truth
“Alright, alright!” The call connected quickly, and Shu Zucheng’s voice was icy.
“Dad, are you alright? I’ll be back soon,” Shu Fang replied calmly.
“Ah Fang, have you lost your mind? How could you do something like this? Return the person immediately. Ten minutes, hurry, hurry! Otherwise, even I won’t be able to protect you!” Shu Zucheng’s voice trembled slightly.
The wind on the rooftop was fierce and cold. He felt his legs going numb; he could barely stand.
Shu Fang put down the phone, visibly shocked. He blinked, tossed his phone to the ground, but quickly picked it up again to make another call.
“Send them back. Take the person back to the warehouse, right now, within five minutes! Forget everything else, just leave as soon as you’ve returned them!”
…
When Ouyang Zhuo followed Shu Yiming upstairs, he witnessed the whole scene. He’d wanted to help at first, but when he saw the extra rope Shu Yiming had lowered, he seemed to understand something at once. He rushed to a lower floor, grabbed a drying pole, hooked the rope, and tied it firmly to the railing.
For extra security, he tied it again to the balcony door on the fifth floor.
Just as he finished, Shu Yiming shouted, “Ouyang, quickly get someone to check if the person’s been returned to that place!”
“Alright, I’ll go right now!” Ouyang Zhuo immediately contacted his partners.
“They’re back, they’re back!” Ouyang Zhuo shouted excitedly, breathing a sigh of relief. The matter was settled now.
As long as the child was safe, everything else could be dealt with.
Back on the rooftop, Ouyang Zhuo’s face darkened. He rolled his eyes and said, “Hold on, I’ll help you over. Come down already, don’t really fall off.”
“Alright!” Only now did Shu Yiming feel his legs give way. His whole body was stiff, his hands weak and limp.
Shu Zucheng, watching all this, called out with a trembling voice, “Careful, help me first, I can’t hold on any longer.”
Ouyang Zhuo ignored him, instead reaching out to untie the rope from Shu Yiming, grabbing his arm and pulling him inside.
Suddenly, a fierce gust of wind blew. Shu Zucheng cried out as he toppled straight down.
A long, agonized scream echoed through the air.
“That old bastard won’t die. My rope’s tied to the fifth floor!” Ouyang Zhuo secretly admired his own foresight—if not for him, Shu Yiming would have become a murderer.
But after a moment’s silence, nothing happened. Shu Yiming leaned over the railing and saw Shu Zucheng dangling in midair, limp and apparently unconscious.
“Hurry, call an ambulance. If anything really happens to him, I’ll be in serious trouble,” Shu Yiming said, anxious to avoid any stain on his record.
Ouyang Zhuo nodded at once and quickly took care of everything.
Just as the two were about to go downstairs, Shu Fang’s car slowly pulled up outside. The moment he got out, he saw Shu Zucheng hanging in midair and screamed, racing upstairs.
He never imagined Shu Yiming could be this ruthless, capable of such a thing—even more cold-blooded than himself!
When Shu Fang met Shu Yiming at the stairwell, he didn’t dare utter a word and rushed upstairs, his heart pounding.
“Heh, buddy, looks like you’re about to become famous. If this gets out, you’ll be known as the Living King of Hell, no doubt about it.” Ouyang Zhuo couldn’t help but laugh at Shu Fang’s expression.
“Enough. Hurry up and get Miaomiao back. The child must be terrified. Take her to the hospital for a checkup—if she’s even slightly hurt, I’ll send them all to hell!”
Shu Yiming was truly scared this time—he’d nearly lost his life.
At the same time, Shu Yiming finally understood the old fox’s cunning. If not for Ouyang Zhuo’s sharp instincts today, he would never have figured out what went wrong.
“Still, I’m curious about the whole story. There are so many details I can’t make sense of,” Ouyang Zhuo said, shaking his head in confusion.
“I suspect Zhang Chengdong is a victim too. Let’s leave it at that; I don’t want to talk about it anymore. I’m exhausted—my heart’s still pounding,” Shu Yiming admitted, his legs weak as he slumped into a chair, unable to move.
The next day, Ouyang Zhuo brought over a thick stack of documents. They both pored over them, astonished by the old fox’s scheming.
It turned out the old fox had an illegitimate daughter he’d cherished in secret, but the child was born with only one kidney and later fell ill.
So Shu Zucheng set his sights on Shu Miaoyan. A check revealed that their blood types were indeed compatible.
But the old fox’s cunning lay here: he knew that if this ever came to light, it would destroy him. So he devised a plan to kill three birds with one stone.
First, he approached Zhang Chengdong and forged all kinds of evidence to show that his child was dying and that he could sell her heart. He conned a large sum out of Zhang Chengdong.
To make it all seem real, every step was seamless. If Ouyang Zhuo hadn’t stumbled onto the truth today, the real story might have remained hidden forever. Zhang Chengdong would have been the scapegoat, and even if the truth came out, nothing would have led back to Shu Zucheng.
Every part of the plan was calculated, and Shu Zucheng even had all the “evidence” in his hands—enough to completely distort the facts—leaving Zhang Chengdong with no way to defend himself!
This was cruelty beyond compare! Such scheming sent chills through the heart. If Shu Yiming hadn’t lost control this time, they never could have won.
After reading, Ouyang Zhuo broke out in a cold sweat—this man was truly terrifying. But then he chuckled as if struck by a sudden thought, patting Shu Yiming on the shoulder.
“Well, let’s go see Miaomiao first. After that, are you really going to run naked like you promised?” Ouyang Zhuo teased with a sly grin.
“Huh?”
Shu Yiming blushed, embarrassed that after all he’d been through, he’d still lost to Ouyang Zhuo.
But this time, Shu Yiming admitted defeat wholeheartedly.
“Alright, we’ll see Miaomiao first. Then I’ll run—but you’re coming with me!” Shu Yiming’s face flushed red, all the way to his neck.
Though yesterday’s ordeal was over, the mere thought of it still made his heart race, filling him with inexplicable dread.
“Deal! I’ll record it with my phone—maybe we’ll go viral! Haha, I could make some extra cash!” Ouyang Zhuo burst out laughing at the image.
Shu Yiming landed a punch on Ouyang Zhuo’s shoulder, grumbling, “Don’t you dare!”
