According to the plan devised by Ouyang Zhuo and Shu Yiming, someone would soon plant explosives here, killing Shu Miaoyan instantly. The timing of the bomb was calculated precisely so that it would detonate just as Shu Miaoyan was running past. Ouyang Zhuo had already inspected every corner; when Shu Miaoyan appeared, it would not really be her but a stunt actor in protective gear.

This sports event was a Disney-themed competition, so all the children were dressed in cartoon costumes. At the critical moment, Ouyang Zhuo's people would seamlessly swap out the real Shu Miaoyan for the impersonator without anyone noticing. Everything was meticulously arranged, and events unfolded exactly as planned, with almost no leaks.

With a loud bang, the stunt actor arranged by Ouyang Zhuo was caught in the explosion. Chaos erupted among the crowd, and Ouyang Zhuo, busy searching for suspects, had no time to notice that the person just present had vanished. Everything went smoothly; the stunt actor, made up to look like Shu Miaoyan, was taken to the hospital and managed to deceive everyone. No one realized that the injured child was not Shu Miaoyan.

Shu Yiming followed closely behind Zhang Chengdong. At the sound of the explosion, Zhang Chengdong received a call and rushed straight to the hospital. The hospital in question was a private facility located just one street behind the municipal hospital. Shu Yiming watched as Zhang Chengdong led a child through the hospital doors and followed after them.

Inside, Shu Yiming covertly filmed with his phone from behind. Zhang Chengdong’s contact was a very young doctor, and the two spoke without the slightest attempt at secrecy.

“Dr. Zhang, you said we can prepare now. Does that mean the heart has already arrived?” the young doctor asked.

Zhang Chengdong was visibly excited. “Yes, you can pay the fee now. By the way, my share—just leave it in the trunk of my car.” With that, the doctor handed Zhang Chengdong a key.

Shu Yiming documented everything, his heart heavy. He sent a message to Ouyang Zhuo: “Ouyang, how’s it going? We’re almost ready to wrap things up here.”

“Good, I’m almost done on my end too. I’ve got evidence against all the relevant people! It was just those two and Zhang Chengdong making contact.”

Half an hour later, all involved parties were apprehended.

Yet Shu Yiming could not feel any joy. He asked, “Ouyang, don’t you think something is off? I have this strange feeling that something isn’t right.”

“Oh, you’re always overthinking things,” Ouyang Zhuo replied with a lighthearted shake of his head.

“But during the explosion, with such a loud noise, Zhang Chengdong only left after getting a call. Doesn’t that seem a bit redundant to you?” Shu Yiming couldn’t shake his unease.

Suddenly, a shrill ring broke through—his phone. The caller was Shu Jinghan.

Her voice was urgent and trembling, “Brother, where are you? Miaomiao is missing!”

“What? When did this happen? Wasn’t she just fine a moment ago?” Shu Yiming’s heart plummeted as memories from his past life flooded back, sending a chill through his entire body.

“Just now. Miaomiao came back saying you wouldn’t let her join the sports event today, and that someone died there. Then she went to play in the garden. Right after, I heard a loud bang, and when I went outside, she was gone!” Shu Jinghan’s voice quivered as fear took over, her teeth chattering.

Shu Yiming’s legs nearly gave out as a terrible premonition gripped him. Without time to think, he stormed back into the interrogation room, eyes bloodshot, and punched Zhang Chengdong squarely.

“You bastard! Tell me, where is Miaomiao? Where have you hidden her?” Shu Yiming could no longer control his emotions.

“What—what Miaomiao? I don’t understand…” Zhang Chengdong cowered, clutching his head, trembling all over.

“You say you don’t understand? If it wasn’t you who kidnapped Miaomiao, then who was it?” Shu Yiming’s eyes were wild, his legs restless, and every nerve in his body was on edge.

Seeing the scene, Ouyang Zhuo rushed in and pointed at Zhang Chengdong. “You needed a heart for your son, so you set your sights on Miaomiao, didn’t you? You planned to kill her and steal her organs to save your son, isn’t that right?”

Zhang Chengdong froze and then slumped, “I don’t know what you’re talking about. What kidnapping? I bought the heart from someone who volunteered—her child was terminally ill and dying. So I bought it.”

“You’re still lying! We have all the evidence! How can you still deny it?” Shu Yiming was on the verge of madness; something was definitely wrong.

What should he do? If anything happened to Shu Miaoyan, he couldn’t bear to live.

Zhang Chengdong shook his head, his face pale and terrified as if he had been scared out of his wits.

Just as Shu Yiming threatened to strike again, a sudden inspiration flashed through Ouyang Zhuo’s mind. He held Shu Yiming back.

“Wait, brother! I just thought of something—there’s a case like this abroad. The real criminal hides in the shadows, fabricating all sorts of evidence to mislead others. When all the clues point to a suspect, the real perpetrator has already slipped away, achieving their goal unnoticed!”

“What?” Shu Yiming was stunned, his mind in a fog, but he understood one thing—the culprit wasn’t Zhang Chengdong.

“Then who is it?” Shu Yiming’s breath quickened, and he felt weak in the knees.

Ouyang Zhuo was also anxious, but at that moment, a face appeared in his mind.

“The doctor! It must be that doctor. Here, look—wasn’t this the man I saw on the sports field?” Ouyang Zhuo grabbed the photo, his eyes lighting up.

“Yes, that’s him!” Shu Yiming confirmed.

With the help of the police, they quickly discovered the man’s identity.

Shu Zucheng’s adopted son—Shu Fang!

Damn Shu Zucheng! Shu Yiming punched the wall in fury.

“So what do we do now?” Ouyang Zhuo was bewildered; the family dynamics were just too complicated.

“If he shows no mercy, don’t blame me for being ruthless!” Shu Yiming declared, heading back at once with Ouyang Zhuo close behind.

At the Shu residence, Shu Zucheng sat leisurely, sipping coffee as he watched his phone screen.

Years ago, Shu Zucheng had a mistress who gave birth to a daughter. Unfortunately, the girl was born with only one kidney. That in itself wouldn’t have been a problem, but fate was unkind and that single kidney also failed.

So Shu Zucheng set his sights on Shu Miaoyan. Knowing full well his plan might bring disaster upon himself, he devised a cunning scheme to cover his tracks.
