Chapter Eighteen: The Hotel
Sun Qianqian did not follow after them; instead, she cast a pitiful glance at Shu Zucheng beside her, eyes rimmed red as she asked, "Uncle, what's going on? Did I do something wrong? Or is there another woman around Ming? Who is it?"
Shu Zucheng frowned, trying to recall, and realized that lately, the only person who had been around Shu Yiming was Lin Peishi.
"Uncle, what should I do now?" Sun Qianqian all but leaned on Shu Zucheng's shoulder.
"Don't worry, don't worry! I'll think of something for you," Shu Zucheng said with a chuckle, patting her gently on the shoulder. "How about this: you go home for now, and as soon as I have any news, I'll inform you. Does that sound good?"
"Alright, uncle, but you must contact me. I'll be waiting for your news!"
Reluctantly, Sun Qianqian left. As she picked up her bag, she discreetly placed a round object on Shu Yiming’s desk.
Shu Zucheng’s eyesight was not the best, so he did not notice Sun Qianqian’s little trick.
With all this commotion, Shu Yiming’s mood for the day was entirely ruined. He glanced at his phone and counted the days—there were now only three days left until that incident.
In three days, the school’s sports day would be held, and during the event, an accident would occur.
Shu Miaoyan was only eleven years old, but they still did not spare her.
Although Shu Yiming had no concrete proof that Zhang Chengdong was involved, Zhang Chengdong’s son, who had previously suffered from a heart condition, made a miraculous recovery in a very short time.
And that heart was none other than Shu Miaoyan’s. To this day, Shu Yiming did not know how his sister’s heart was lost, only that the body cremated was not hers.
The pain and heartbreak of the past welled up inside him. Shu Yiming knew he could not allow these tragedies to repeat.
All of this had been told to him by Shu Jinghan. At that time, he had been lying in a hospital bed, on the verge of death, unable to move, left only with regret.
"Where are you now?" Shu Yiming immediately called Ouyang Zhuo.
He had been too busy to think about this matter before, but now the urgency could not be ignored.
"Hey man, what’s up? Out of luck already?" Ouyang Zhuo rubbed his temples, got up, and glanced over at the building housing Shu Yiming’s company.
Ever since the last incident, Ouyang Zhuo had simply rented an apartment directly across from Shu Yiming’s company, though he had no intention of letting Shu Yiming know.
"This isn’t a joke. I need you to help me with something right away. In three days, it’s Miaoyan’s sports day. There are things I can’t explain on the phone—come out and meet me," Shu Yiming said, hanging up and looking up at the sky.
Half an hour later, Ouyang Zhuo's expression was grave as he sighed, "I basically understand what you’ve told me, but there’s one thing I don’t get. How do you know something will happen that day?"
"I..." Shu Yiming hesitated. He couldn't possibly tell him he had been reborn. Who would believe that?
After a moment’s thought, he rolled his eyes and snapped, "Let’s just say I have a mysterious informant. Haven’t you remarked on how much I’ve changed lately? It’s all thanks to this mystery person’s guidance!"
Even Shu Yiming himself didn’t believe this explanation, but, oddly enough, Ouyang Zhuo did.
Well, what else could he do? The things that had happened to Shu Yiming lately were simply too extraordinary.
"Alright, if there’s ever a chance, introduce me to this mysterious person. I bet they’re incredible—maybe they have some kind of analytical system or supercomputer!" Ouyang Zhuo suddenly looked at Shu Yiming with excitement.
"Uh, sure, if there’s a chance, I definitely will." Shu Yiming still had no intention of revealing the truth about his rebirth.
But just as the two were about to return to the company, something very strange happened.
A truck, without warning, sped out from a nearby corner, barreling straight at Shu Yiming and Ouyang Zhuo with alarming precision. There was not a soul inside—the driver’s seat was empty!
Shu Yiming saw the truck coming and there was no time to react. Grabbing Ouyang Zhuo, he rolled them both away just in the nick of time.
Deep in the alley, a black-clad figure wearing a mask melted into the crowd and vanished.
Fortunately, luck was on their side. In that split second, they tumbled behind a trash bin. When the truck crashed down, it looked as if it crushed them both, but the bin created just enough of a gap that they were only squashed together, stifled and uncomfortable but otherwise unharmed.
"Ming, something’s not right," Ouyang Zhuo said from where he was pressed against Shu Yiming’s back. "According to your mysterious source, your sister was supposed to be in danger, but how come they didn’t foresee you being targeted?"
Shu Yiming moved his neck to find a position where he could breathe, then steadied himself and said, "If you wanted my sister’s heart, wouldn’t I be the main obstacle?"
"What do you mean?" Ouyang Zhuo was momentarily stunned, not understanding.
"I mean, if you wanted my sister’s heart for your son’s transplant, you’d have to get rid of me first! With me around, your chances would be much smaller, maybe even impossible." Shu Yiming sighed—he still hadn’t thought of this possibility in time.
Luckily, the two of them were safe. Perhaps heaven was watching over them.
"I see!" Ouyang Zhuo clapped his hands in sudden realization. "So, what do we do now?"
"It’s simple. We wait for help. Once we’re out, I’ll pretend to be unconscious. You must protect my sister, exactly as we discussed. Make sure nothing happens to her!" Shu Yiming sighed again, still uneasy.
"I’ll be extra careful—nothing will happen to Miaoyan," Ouyang Zhuo replied, his tone grave, fully aware of the situation’s seriousness.
An hour later, a news flash dominated the headlines: "Newly appointed chairman of Mingtai Group loses consciousness in car accident, may become a vegetable; Mingtai Group’s future in jeopardy..."
Meanwhile, chaos erupted in Mingtai Group. Lin Peishi rushed to the hospital as soon as she heard the news.
Shu Jinghan was so frightened she burst into tears, but remembering her little sister was still at school and unable to help, she decided not to tell Shu Miaoyan and went to the hospital alone.
At the same time, another person was equally shocked.
Zhao Tianguang, frowning at the report, turned to Zhu Wanwan and demanded, "Find out who did this. They dare to make a move right under my nose!"
Zhao Tianguang’s face was dark with fury...
