Chapter 134: Understanding
Shu Yiming nodded, walked over to Ge Dalong, and gently patted him on the shoulder.
“If that’s the case, then I won’t say anything more. I trust your character, and I trust everyone else’s integrity as well.”
“In other words, aside from the possibility of a traitor among us, there’s no way the mushrooms here could have been tampered with. That’s the first point. The second is that they may have been switched somewhere along the way. Think carefully—has anything seemed unusual lately?”
As soon as Shu Yiming finished speaking, Ge Dalong and the others all nodded. They stared at one another, wide-eyed, trying to find some clue.
But after searching their memories for quite some time, they found nothing. Everyone around them was someone they knew, and they had all been together during this period. No one had made any suspicious move.
After a long while, no one stepped forward to speak. Seeing the people below him standing there in silence, Shu Yiming could not help frowning.
“How about this? Send someone outside to ask around.” He paused, then shook his head. “Forget it. I’ll go myself. You brothers stay here and wait. If anything happens, follow my instructions immediately.”
“Understood!” Ouyang Zhuo immediately lowered his head and replied.
With that, Shu Yiming turned and walked outside. The moment he opened the door, the people waiting outside surged forward, surrounding him. Each of them stood before him like a bloodthirsty demon.
Before they could say anything, Shu Yiming spoke first.
“Whoever was the first victim, come in one at a time. You can collect your money now, but before that, you’ll have to answer a few questions and sign an agreement. Once you take the money, this matter will have nothing more to do with you. From then on, you are not to spread rumors or cause trouble, and you must help explain the situation on our behalf.”
The moment he said this, the crowd erupted. Everyone fought to push their way inside, desperate to be the first to receive the money.
Shu Yiming suddenly shouted, his voice loud enough to make everyone freeze.
“If you don’t want the money, then keep fighting. If you want it, line up and come in one at a time.”
This finally had some effect. Although people were still jostling to get into the line, the disorder was far less chaotic than before.
The first person to enter was a bald man with a scar across his face. He looked fierce and menacing, with thick, muscular arms that made it clear he was not someone to be trifled with.
As soon as he stepped inside, he slammed his palm onto the table in front of Shu Yiming and glared at him viciously.
“If you don’t pay me, I’m not leaving. My father died after eating your poisonous mushrooms. You owe us an explanation today.”
