Feng Su stared at Li Jiuwei in surprise.
What miracle medicine? As if anyone would believe that. Lu Yan had always been an eccentric, mystical sort.
Lu Yan handed the medicine to Li Jiuwei.
She held it in her palm. “Thank you. What kind of jewelry would you like to have custom-made, Mr. Lu?”
“I haven’t decided yet. Once I’ve thought it through, I’ll contact you again, Miss Li.” Lu Yan turned his wheelchair and left.
Li Jiuwei stared at the pill in her hand.
Watching her absentminded expression, Feng Su felt a surge of restlessness.
He felt as though there were a wall between them.
He had always believed that he understood Li Jiuwei very well. Yet now, it seemed he had never truly understood her at all.
She had secrets.
“I’m tired. I’m going back to rest.”
“Jiuwei…”
“President Feng, Mr. Gu is waiting for you,” Wen Xi suddenly cut in.
Feng Su stopped.
He had not come here merely to gamble on rough stones. There was something more important he needed to attend to.
Feng Su did not go after Li Jiuwei. Wen Xi followed him, her face radiant as she gazed at the man ahead of her.
His imposing stature, handsome features, power, and status—
He was a perfect man.
Wen Xi happily quickened her steps to catch up with Feng Su.
Carrying the medicine, Li Jiuwei headed straight to SF Express and sent it off at the earliest possible speed.
At last, she could breathe easy.

“Jiuwei, it’s been a long time.”
When she saw Li Jingbai again, her heart was surprisingly calm.
A long time had passed since their last meeting. He had grown thinner and darker, and looked far more weathered than before.
How had he ended up like this?
Her icy indifference caused a dull ache in Li Jingbai’s heart. “I went to the countryside where you used to live.”
Li Jiuwei was genuinely surprised.
“Jiuwei, I’m sorry.”
“Li Jingbai, I don’t want to talk about the past anymore.”
She walked past him.
“Jiuwei, will you still acknowledge me as your brother?”
“My ties with the Li family were severed long ago.”
How could there be any talk of brotherly affection?
For a long time, Li Jingbai had not believed that Li Jiuwei was serious when she said she had severed ties with them. Perhaps she had only said it in anger, or perhaps she had been too hurt.
As long as they did everything they could to make amends, they were certain they could earn her forgiveness.
But after he went to the countryside—
After visiting the surrounding villages and speaking with the people there, he finally learned what kind of life Li Jiuwei had endured all those years.
Having experienced it firsthand, he knew that if he had been in her place, he might have destroyed everything as well.
He understood her pain.
What was more, he had played a significant part in many of the hardships Li Jiuwei had suffered.
Li Jingbai watched her retreating figure.
The anguish in his expression deepened.
Li Jiuwei returned home and lay on her bed, her thoughts in constant turmoil. She could not shake the feeling that something terrible was about to happen.
An hour later—

Feng Su’s phone rang, but a woman’s voice came from the other end.
“Miss Li, President Feng has had too much to drink. He keeps shouting that he wants you to come and pick him up.”
“Wen Xi?”
“Yes, it’s me, Miss Li.”
“All right.”
Li Jiuwei hung up, got dressed, and drove to pick him up.
At an upscale entertainment venue, Li Jiuwei arrived outside the private room and heard a burst of noisy laughter from within.
“Young Master, you’re certainly enjoying yourself. Even your assistant is gorgeous.”
“Old Five, watch what you say.”
“Hey, look at me running my mouth again. I just can’t help saying whatever comes to mind. Our Young Master has always been a model of self-restraint.”
“Come on, men are allowed to have a little fun outside. Their wives never have to know. What man doesn’t like beautiful women?”
“With a mouth like yours, you’re lucky the Young Master is drunk tonight. Otherwise, you wouldn’t even know how you died.”
…
Outside the room, Li Jiuwei pushed the door open. The teasing voices inside stopped abruptly.
A drunken Feng Su sat alone in the corner.
Wen Xi was right beside him.
She was draping a coat over his shoulders.
