Extortion? Big Dog, break all four of his limbs!
Li Feng's gaze turned slightly cold.
He still had a great deal of things to do; how could he possibly have the leisure to play such petty domestic games with them here?
Glancing around at the crowd, Li Feng ignored old woman Zhao and asked, "Are you all here to demand justice as well?"
The onlookers instantly stepped backward. You must be joking.
By now, they all knew the ins and outs of the situation. To still come here and cause trouble? They would have to be out of their minds!
They weren't like old woman Zhao, who had nothing to lose and cared for nothing; they still valued their reputation.
"Not at all, not at all! We just came over to see what was going on!" said one of the matrons.
The others quickly chimed in, "That's right, we just came to watch the commotion. This was merely a matter between children to begin with—what business is it for adults to step in?"
"We'll take our boys away right now. Second Brother Li, please take your time sorting this out."
With that, some people grabbed their children and left.
They walked right out of Li Feng's courtyard!
Since the other party hadn't even asked them to pay for any damages yet, why on earth should they stay and make fools of themselves?
Watching those spineless little slurs leave, old woman Zhao spat internally with immense contempt.
A bunch of gutless cowards! A mere paper tiger, what was there to be afraid of?
She pushed her grandson forward, reached out, and lifted his shirt to reveal the bruises underneath.
"Take a look. This was all caused by your son. Before coming here, I consulted Dr. Li, and he said the injuries are severe. Without a full tael of silver, it will never heal properly!"
"We're all from the same village and see each other every day. I won't ask for too much—just as Dr. Li said, one tael of silver for medicinal costs, and this matter will be settled. How's that?"
Li Feng cast a glance at her. What a greedy woman.
In an ordinary household, being able to save two taels of silver in an entire year would already make them a well-to-do family.
Yet the moment she opened her mouth, she demanded a whole tael of silver just for medicine.
She certainly had some nerve.
Madam Li and old man Li had suffered a fractured rib and a broken leg respectively, and they hadn't even spent a single tael of silver yet.
"Big Dog!"
Li Feng looked past Gou Dan and spoke to Big Dog.
"Father!"
Big Dog's heart fluttered with anxiety; he had already prepared himself to drop to his knees and admit his mistake.
One tael of silver.
And that was just for the medicine!
They simply couldn't afford to pay it!
Moreover, Father still needed to send his second younger brother and the others to school; the family's money could not be spent recklessly.
Clenching his fists, he looked at Li Feng, then took a few quick strides to stand directly in front of old woman Zhao and Li Gou Dan.
Old woman Zhao glanced at Li Feng, feeling immensely smug.
She had known all along that Li Feng was merely a paper tiger, and he would only become even more pathetic now that the family had split up.
If their household forked over a tael of silver today, she would make her grandson come over every single day from now on to extort them daily.
After all, she had heard that although Li Feng wasn't favored, when the family divided their property, he still ended up with four mu of dry land and three mu of medium-grade paddy fields.
Added together, that was worth a good dozens of taels of silver.
If she extorted one tael every day, in ten days or half a month, her grandson would be able to attend the thatched-roof school in Lower River Village!
Her, old woman Zhao's grandson, naturally belonged in a school, destined to become a scholar.
"Do it."
Just as she was lost in her own thoughts, Li Feng spoke up. "Break his four limbs, and then give her a tael of silver!"
Boom!
As soon as those words fell, old woman Zhao was dumbfounded.
Her head buzzed with a deafening ring!
Wait, what did she just hear?
Though Big Dog didn't understand, his body moved instinctively as he reached out and grabbed Gou Dan.
The little fellow was only seven or eight years old and rather plump, but Big Dog was very strong and hoisted the boy up with a single hand.
Seeing this, Erniu snatched up a club from nearby, stepped forward, and raised it high into the air, looking as though he was about to bring it down...
"Wait!"
At the sight of the club in Erniu's hand, old woman Zhao's breathing stopped for a fraction of a second.
With a hoarse, strained voice, she cried out, "Second Li, what are you trying to do?!"
"Do you want to murder a fellow clansman?!"
Li Feng raised an eyebrow, entirely unconcerned. "Didn't you say you wanted a tael of silver?"
"With injuries as light as his, how could they possibly be worth a full tael of silver?"
"Since we're going through the motions of extortion, we might as well make it look convincing. I'm helping you out. Erniu, do it!"
"Bang!"
Erniu swung his arm swiftly, smashing the club down onto Gou Dan's leg.
"Ah!!" Gou Dan's shrill scream pierced the air. "Grandma, it hurts so much! Save me, Grandma!!"
Old woman Zhao was completely stupefied.
She had never expected that Li Feng would actually dare to go through with it, let alone act with such ruthless cruelty.
He had genuinely broken her poor grandson's leg!
She wanted to stop Erniu, but her grandson was still trapped in Big Dog's grip.
That was the sole continuation of their family line!
For a moment, old woman Zhao's breathing became chaotic, and her eyes rolled back.
"If you dare to faint, your grandson won't just have a broken leg anymore!"
The old woman had been preparing to fake a faint, but at Li Feng's warning, she had no choice but to halt her performance, looking at him with a face full of panic.
With a loud thud, she dropped straight to her knees. "What do you want?!"
"Give my grandson back to me! I won't cause you any more trouble, and I won't extort you either!"
Li Feng gazed coldly down at old woman Zhao.
"Thud, thud, thud!"
Seeing that Li Feng refused to relent, and for the sake of her grandson's safety, old woman Zhao kowtowed incessantly. "Second Li, spare my grandson! I'm begging you, old woman that I am!"
Both Big Dog and Erniu looked toward Li Feng, a glimmer of expectation in their eyes.
Li Feng swept a glance over them and gave a slight wave of his hand.
"Thud!"
Receiving the order, Big Dog loosened his grip, and the little chubby boy dropped straight to the ground, landing squarely on his injured leg!
"Ah!" Another shriek of agony escaped Gou Dan.
"My precious grandson, are you alright?!"
Old woman Zhao scrambled over frantically, pulling the child into her arms, inspecting him closely before reaching out to feel her grandson's leg.
After feeling it, she let out a massive sigh of relief. The bone wasn't broken!
Thank goodness!
Yet the very next moment.
Her body was suddenly shoved aside, sending her stumbling off balance.
"You useless old hag, you can't even handle a simple task like this! Father was right, you're nothing but trash!"
Li Gou Dan abruptly pushed old woman Zhao away and began to hurl vicious curses, "They hit me!"
"These lowly spawn hit me, my leg is almost broken, and you aren't even getting revenge for me!"
"Tie them all up right now, I want to break their legs one by one!"
Though so young, his words were dripping with venom.
Upon hearing this, not only did old woman Zhao refrain from scolding him, but she instead spoke in a soothing, gentle tone, "Alright, alright. Grandma will tie them all up for you later, and you can do whatever you want to them, okay?"
"Your leg is hurt right now, let Grandma take you to see a doctor first, shall we?"
Having received this promise, Gou Dan still wore tear tracks on his face, but a vicious, malevolent smile broke out across his features: "I want Second丫 too!"
"Grandma, I want—"
Hearing this, old woman Zhao hastily reached out to clamp her hand over the little brat's mouth, scooped the child up in her arms, and fled in a panic!
Standing behind and watching them leave, a flash of murderous intent flickered through Li Feng's eyes.
This family could no longer be allowed to exist!
He needed to find an opportunity to deal with them once and for all!
Old woman Zhao's greatest pride was her son.
Though he was a gambler who had even sold his own wife, that man was ruthless and undeniably capable in town.
He had connections in all sorts of circles; perhaps he could use this to his advantage to broaden his horizons.
If he could manipulate the situation to his favor, that would be even better!
"Father, I have a feeling they harbor malicious intentions. Why don't we..." Li Erniu watched Li Feng closely.
He hadn't used his full strength earlier, so that brat's leg wasn't actually broken.
But now, he regretted it. He should have shattered the fellow's leg right then and there.
Turning him into a cripple for life!
