Chapter Thirteen: Breaking the House, Smashing the Bed
Just then, Jia Yibo hurried over in a rush.
As soon as he entered, he saw Xie Ning pointing and gesturing inside his son’s room, while Jia Huizu trembled with fury.
“Xie Ning, what trick are you trying to pull now?” Jia Yibo barked angrily.
Xie Ning turned around with an innocent look, shrugging his shoulders.
“Marquis, don’t wrong a good person. I just couldn’t bear to see my dear brother injured, so I came specially to help him take a look.”
“I see that while his injury is partly due to his own carelessness, the feng shui of this room is also a serious problem. For the sake of my dear brother’s safety, I believe everything in this room needs to be changed.”
Without waiting for Jia Yibo’s reaction, he waved his hand at Qingfeng and Mingyue behind him. “Come on, start. Throw that broken desk out!”
“Yes, Young Master.”
Qingfeng and Mingyue obeyed immediately without hesitation, each lifting one side of the costly rosewood desk and carrying it out.
“What are you doing? Stop!”
Jia Huizu’s eyes widened in disbelief—this was his favorite desk.
Jia Yibo was both shocked and furious. He wanted to step forward to stop them, but Qingfeng and Mingyue only glanced coldly at him, their murderous gazes sending a chill through his legs, freezing him in place.
These two were sent by the Princess; how could he dare provoke them?
He could only watch helplessly as they effortlessly carried the rosewood desk out of the room and then, with a loud crash, smashed it to pieces in the courtyard.
“Also that awful painting,” Xie Ning pointed at the Tiger Descending the Mountain hanging on the wall.
“Tear it down!”
Mingyue stepped forward, sword flashing coldly, and the painting was sliced into two, falling to the floor in shreds.
“You… you…”
Jia Huizu pointed at Xie Ning, trembling with rage.
“Xie Ning! I’ll kill you!”
He struggled to get out of bed to attack Xie Ning.
“Hey, don’t get so angry.”
Xie Ning cheerfully approached the bedside and pressed his hand on Jia Huizu’s shoulder.
“My dear brother, you’re a patient now and need to rest well. Don’t worry, I’m doing this for your own good. Once you recover, I’ll bring over some auspicious items for you. As for the cost of redecorating this room…”
Xie Ning paused and then turned to look at the dark-faced Jia Yibo, smiling broadly.
“Father, please kindly cover the expenses!”
Jia Yibo’s face darkened until it seemed ink might drip from it.
Expenses?
This bastard smashed his son’s belongings and still had the nerve to ask him to pay?
His eyes narrowed to slits, fists clenched so tightly his knuckles cracked, and his entire body trembled with fury.
If looks could kill, Xie Ning would have been reduced to dust in an instant.
“Xie Ning, you’ve gone too far!”
Jia Yibo spoke in a low, icy voice, his face as grave as water.
“Too far?”
Xie Ning laughed as if hearing the greatest joke in the world.
He released Jia Huizu’s shoulder, turned slowly, and sauntered over to Jia Yibo.
“Marquis, you talk to me about going too far? Do you want me to list, one by one, how you and your son, along with that woman and her bastard, have treated me all these years?”
“Living in a thatched hut, eating leftovers, beaten and scolded at a moment’s notice, treated like a pig or dog—why didn’t you say you went too far back then?”
Xie Ning’s voice was low but every word cut to the bone.
Jia Yibo’s face immediately darkened further.
He wanted to retort but found himself utterly speechless.
Because everything Xie Ning said was true.
“Now, I’ve only smashed a few worthless pieces of junk belonging to your precious son, and you say I’ve gone too far?”
Xie Ning sneered, his eyes dripping with undisguised scorn.
“Jia Yibo, have you forgotten that I am the rightful heir of the Marquis of Dingyuan’s estate? My mother was once the true mistress of this household. You are nothing but a shameless son-in-law who rose on my mother’s coattails, a usurper. What right do you have to be so arrogant?”
“You!”
Jia Yibo was so enraged that his vision darkened, nearly suffocating.
“You unfilial wretch! You great traitor!”
He pointed shaking fingers at Xie Ning.
“Guards! Guards! Seize this unfilial son!”
He shouted hoarsely, hoping the servants outside would rush in.
But Qingfeng and Mingyue stood like statues at the door, eyes cold and radiating an aura that warned strangers to stay away.
The servants outside peeked nervously but none dared to enter.
A joke.
Even the Marquis himself was cowed by the Princess’s men; how could these servants risk their lives rushing in?
Seeing this, Jia Yibo’s heart sank completely.
He understood now.
As long as these two were here, Xie Ning could strut through the Marquis’s mansion unchecked.
And he, the Marquis of Dingyuan, would become a laughingstock.
Xie Ning looked at Jia Yibo’s frustrated yet helpless expression with utter satisfaction.
Delightful!
It was simply too satisfying!
For fifteen years, all the grievances and anger the original owner had endured seemed to find release at this moment.
He wanted, right before Jia Yibo’s eyes, to ruthlessly humiliate his most beloved son.
He wanted Jia Yibo to clearly understand that the wheel of fortune had turned and now it was his turn, Xie Ning’s, to be in charge.
His gaze then fell upon the lavishly carved bed in the room.
Jia Huizu lay on it, glaring at him with venomous hatred.
“What are you staring at?”
Xie Ning approached, looking down on him from above.
“Keep staring and see if I don’t gouge your eyeballs out.”
Jia Huizu shuddered at the icy glare and instinctively looked away.
He was afraid.
He was truly afraid.
This Xie Ning before him was a completely different person from the useless victim he once bullied at will.
His eyes, his aura, all filled Jia Huizu with a deep, primal fear.
“Tsk tsk, this bed isn’t good either.”
Xie Ning circled the bed, shaking his head.
“Carved dragons and painted phoenixes, do you think you’re some royal prince? You’re not worthy. You’re just a bastard son of a marquis’s household, sleeping on such a bed is an act of arrogance, a death wish. That pathetic bit of luck you have is drained dry by this bed—it’s no wonder you’re so unlucky.”
His words made Jia Huizu’s face turn pale and then flush repeatedly.
What does bastard mean?
Though his mother Xu was only later legitimized, in his heart, he was the rightful legitimate eldest son of this household.
What was this despicable Xie Ning?
But he dared not retort, only gritted his teeth and endured.
“Qingfeng, Mingyue.”
Xie Ning spoke again.
“Dismantle this bed too!”
“Yes, Young Master.”
Qingfeng and Mingyue obeyed once more.
Jia Yibo’s eyes instantly reddened.
“Xie Ning! How dare you!”
