Chapter Ninety-One: The Thousand-Year Spirit Beast, the Black-Armored Mystic Turtle (2)
“Just now we were blind, utterly blind. I will take my students and leave at once!”
The arrogance that had once clung to Garrio was gone, replaced by a fawning smile.
“Those who offend me do not simply walk away alive.”
Lin An gave a cold laugh and could not be bothered to waste words on them. The Bone Spirit Cold Flame and the Azure Phoenix Heavenly Flame appeared at once, and the fusion of those dreadful exotic fires sent out a terrifying surge of power that turned Garrio’s face deathly pale in an instant.
He had no doubt that if that awful flame touched him, he would melt away without even the chance to struggle.
He no longer cared about the students he had brought with him. He turned at once, ready to flee.
At a time like this, if Lin An let him escape right under his nose, that would truly be a joke.
Controlling the exotic flames, Lin An sent them streaking out like beams of light. They pierced through each of their bodies one after another, and in only a few steps they burned to dust and vanished from sight.
[Spirit ring years +400!]
[Spirit ring years +20!]
[Spirit ring years +40!]
[Soul points +200!]
...
The familiar system notifications continued to ring in his ears. The few people before him had contributed five hundred years to his spirit ring capacity. Even if he were to fuse a five-hundred-year spirit ring now, the spirit ring years stored within Yama Hall would instantly allow him to possess a thousand-year ring.
“After that commotion, I doubt any spirit beasts will come near here. We should hurry and change locations.”
The sight before him was hard for the Grandmaster to accept. He had never imagined that Lin An’s mount would be so formidable, and that Lin An himself would also possess such powerful methods.
Only now did the Grandmaster finally begin to believe Lin An’s words about how formidable he had once been.
Lin An nodded. The stronger the spirit beast, the keener its sense of danger.
Though the disturbance here had not been great, the pressure released by Little Purple was enough to frighten away most spirit beasts.
Lin An simply called Little Purple back into Yama Hall, then continued on foot with the Grandmaster.
“If we still haven’t found a suitable spirit ring by midnight, let’s find somewhere to rest for the night and continue tomorrow,” the Grandmaster said helplessly.
They had searched for so long and encountered many spirit beasts, but none suitable for Lin An had appeared.
The Spirit Hunting Forest was vast; there was no way they could cover the entire place in such a short time.
Lin An nodded. Though he found it somewhat frustrating, that was all they could do for now.
“Hm? There’s a big river over there. Maybe we can try our luck there!”
At that moment, the Grandmaster’s sharp ears caught the sound of flowing water. He quickly headed toward the source, and soon a broad river came into view.
Water is the source of life, so many spirit beasts would surely come here to drink. Perhaps they could encounter a spirit ring suitable for Lin An.
Lin An felt that the Grandmaster’s reasoning made sense. The two of them then climbed a large tree nearby and waited for spirit beasts to appear.
This area was almost like a forbidden battlefield. No matter how powerful a spirit beast might be, once it arrived here, it would obediently drink water and would not attack the weaker beasts nearby.
Of course, if a truly powerful spirit beast appeared, the lower-ranked, weaker ones would stop moving and wait until the stronger beast had finished drinking before daring to continue.
“That is... a Black-Armored Mystic Elephant? It fits your Dragon-Elephant martial soul perfectly, but its age is over four thousand years!”
Not long after, the Grandmaster’s voice came softly. Lin An looked closely, and sure enough, it was a massive elephant, its entire body black as if draped in armor, with a mysterious glow flowing across its surface.
Within the Spirit Hunting Forest, it was considered a spirit beast with both strong defense and attack power, so much so that ordinary spirit beasts did not even dare approach it.
Unless one was especially in need of a Black-Armored Mystic Elephant ring, most spirit master teams would rarely choose it as their target.
What was more, this one was over four thousand years old. For just Lin An and the Grandmaster to defeat it was clearly impossible. And yet, just as the Grandmaster thought Lin An would choose to give up, he heard a voice full of fighting spirit.
“A spirit beast over four thousand years old. Though its age is admittedly a little low, it is the most suitable beast I’ve found so far. In that case, I’ll take it as my first spirit ring.”
“Lin An, think carefully. Even if the mysterious flame you control is extraordinarily powerful, your own strength is very weak. With even the slightest mistake, either you die here, or the Black-Armored Mystic Elephant is completely annihilated!”
The Grandmaster warned him. No matter the method, he clearly had no confidence in Lin An.
“Don’t worry. If it really doesn’t work, I won’t keep clinging to it,” Lin An said.
Since it had come to this, the Grandmaster did not continue trying to stop him.
On the way here, Lin An had already said that if possible, he wanted to find a spirit beast over three thousand years old to serve as his first spirit ring. The Grandmaster had considered it for a long time. Taking into account the special nature of Lin An’s martial soul, along with the strength he had already shown before, a spirit ring over three thousand years old was not out of the question.
Only, it would carry some risk.
Lin An did not act rashly. Instead, he waited until the Black-Armored Mystic Elephant had finished drinking and left the area before suddenly making his move.
Although his cultivation had been shackled by a mysterious power, Lin An’s monstrous physical strength could still be brought to bear. Added to that the descent of Yama, he intended to meet this four-thousand-year Black-Armored Mystic Elephant head-on.
Yama Descends!
Lin An’s strength instantly multiplied by fifty. Even with only the power of his body left, he still unleashed a terrifying force.
In a single stride, Lin An burst forward with astonishing speed and drove a fist toward the elephant’s face. A faint, horrifying sonic boom rang out, and the blow landed hard upon its face.
Crack.
Lin An could even hear the sound of bones breaking from within the Black-Armored Mystic Elephant’s face.
Even its enormous body was forced back several steps uncontrollably.
“Roar!”
The sudden enemy, along with that terrifying punch, utterly enraged the Black-Armored Mystic Elephant. It let out a thunderous roar and then slammed violently toward Lin An’s position.
The Grandmaster stared in stunned silence at the scene before him, nearly unable to speak.
What kind of monster was Lin An? Merely by relying on his own strength, he had forced back the Black-Armored Mystic Elephant several steps.
If the Grandmaster had not been certain that Lin An was truly human, he would have begun to suspect that Lin An was a humanoid spirit beast that had escaped from the Star Dou Great Forest.
It was simply... too savage.
But that only made the Black-Armored Mystic Elephant even more furious. The Grandmaster’s gaze toward Lin An also carried a trace of concern.
